Nine Star Dou Wang, Su Qian of the Inner Academy
Ruo Lin did not know whether Yao Lao was bragging or had truly met Su Qian, but it was not her place to dwell on that. All she needed to do now was bring Yao Lao to Jia Nan Academy.
She first set Yao Lao aside, then began testing everyone else’s potential. Xiao Ning and Xiao Mei had barely passed the line, and then it was Gu Xun’er’s turn.
After the test, Ruo Lin was utterly dumbfounded. What was going on? A three-star Da Dou Shi?
Ruo Lin sucked in a cold breath. "Why has your Xiao Family produced another freak this year?!"
Everyone froze for a moment. Xiao Yu asked, "Instructor Ruo Lin, what did you say? There’s another freak?"
Ruo Lin nodded. "Yes, didn’t you know? While recruiting students in other cities, I recruited Xiao Yan from your Xiao Family. A seventeen-year-old three-star Dou Ling—he’s a freak among freaks! It’s just that in that regard… ahem, I’ve said too much. Let’s continue the testing."
Next was Su Yiyi. After Su Yiyi finished her test, Ruo Lin was completely stunned. This was far too outrageous!
Su Yiyi, sixteen years old, nine-star Dou Wang.
Over the past year, Su Yiyi had become a little more serious, and had then leaped all the way to nine-star Dou Wang.
It was not just Ruo Lin. Xiao Yu and everyone else stared at Su Yiyi and Gu Xun’er as if they were monsters.
Ruo Lin asked, "Su Yiyi, can you tell me how you cultivated?"
Su Yiyi sighed. "Father said I was too lazy and made me cultivate for two hours a day, so I cultivated for two hours every day last year."
Ruo Lin: "???"
Xiao Yu: "???"
The spectators: "???"
Ruo Lin looked utterly unconvinced. "So you only cultivate two hours a day?"
Su Yiyi nodded. "Mm. I still have to refine pills. Where would I find that much time to cultivate?"
Driven by curiosity, Ruo Lin asked, "What grade alchemist are you now?"
"Pill refinement gets harder and harder later on. I’m only a sixth-grade alchemist now," Su Yiyi said dejectedly.
Ruo Lin did not even know what to say. What was with that disappointed tone? Sixteen years old, a nine-star Dou Wang, and a sixth-grade alchemist, yet she acted as though she were terribly dissatisfied! Was she going to let anyone else live?
This really needed to be said: Su Yiyi was not showing off. She was genuinely somewhat disappointed. Su Yu and Mao Jiu had both told her how monstrous her talent was, and these achievements were nowhere near enough for her.
Ruo Lin steadied her excited emotions, then immediately led everyone toward Jia Nan Academy. She was now terrified that Su Yiyi and the others might run away.
Ruo Lin hurriedly led the group toward Jia Nan Academy. Watching from the sky, Su Yu felt that the more he looked at them, the more they resembled a group fleeing for their lives…
Ruo Lin could not be blamed for being so excited. She had encountered such monstrous geniuses, as well as someone who might be a seventh-grade alchemist. If she did not quickly bring them back to Jia Nan Academy, she would not feel at ease.
They traveled at top speed, reaching Jia Nan Academy in less than a day. Ruo Lin went inside to notify Hu Qian, the vice dean of the Outer Academy. After all, Su Qian was not someone a mere instructor could request to see whenever she pleased.
Su Yiyi and the other two were simply too extraordinary. Hu Qian immediately came in person. After arranging for the other students to stay in the Outer Academy, Hu Qian decided to have Su Yiyi and Gu Xun’er join the Inner Academy directly.
Hu Qian looked at Yao Lao and said, "Well, Elder Yao, Instructor Ruo Lin can take Su Yiyi and Gu Xun’er to the Inner Academy and get them settled. I’ll take you to meet the Great Elder first."
Yao Lao did not rise. Though he was approachable, as a Half-Step Dou Di, how could he personally go meet a mere Dou Zong? Even in the past, there had been no reason for him to go see Su Qian.
Yao Lao said blandly, "Go tell Su Qian to come see me. Oh, and my name is Yao Chen. Tell him my name, and he will naturally come."
Hu Qian was immediately speechless. Who did this man think he was, demanding that the Great Elder of Jia Nan Academy come see him in person?
Watching from the air, Su Yu smiled. "Oh? I never thought this old fellow Yao Lao could show off too."
Seeing Hu Qian’s speechless expression, Yao Lao spoke again. "Go on. As long as you tell him my name, he will definitely rush over at once."
Hu Qian took a deep breath. "Fine. Please wait here."
With that, Hu Qian immediately headed for the Inner Academy. Since he was going there anyway, he brought Su Yiyi and Gu Xun’er along.
Not long after, Hu Qian arrived at the Inner Academy. After settling Su Yiyi and Gu Xun’er, he immediately went to find Su Qian.
"Great Elder, a crazy old man in the Outer Academy claims to be a ninth-grade alchemist and wants to become a teacher at our academy. He also told you to go see him. Will you meet him?" Hu Qian asked with a bitter smile.
Su Qian froze for a moment. "What is that old gentleman’s name?"
Hu Qian answered, "Yao Chen."
Upon hearing that name, Su Qian trembled violently. He immediately stepped through the void and rushed toward the Outer Academy at his fastest speed.
Hu Qian was instantly dumbfounded. Had Yao Lao not been talking nonsense after all?
Upon reaching the Outer Academy, Su Qian recognized Yao Lao from far away. Arriving before him, Su Qian cupped his hands slightly. "Greetings, Venerable Yao."
"It’s enough that you came. I want to be an ordinary teacher in the Inner Academy of Jia Nan Academy. Can you help arrange that?" Yao Lao asked directly.
Su Qian smiled. "Of course there is no problem if Venerable Yao wishes to teach at Jia Nan Academy. Might I ask whether Venerable Yao would be willing to teach pill refinement?"
Yao Lao smiled at Su Qian. This old man was no fool. Yao Lao nodded. "No problem. Since I’m already here, and I have nothing better to do. However, I will not teach pill refinement to just anyone. Those who study pill refinement under me must be chosen by me personally."
Su Qian immediately said excitedly, "Of course, no problem!"
Su Qian unconditionally believed Yao Lao’s claim that he had become a ninth-grade alchemist. After all, Yao Lao had already been an eighth-grade alchemist many years ago. After so many years, perhaps he had encountered some opportunity and broken through.
"Venerable Yao, where have you been all these years? Your traces vanished from the entire continent," Su Qian asked.
Yao Lao gave a bitter laugh. "The past has gone with the wind. I do not wish to mention it again. From now on, just call me Yao Lao. Venerable Yao no longer exists."
Su Qian immediately picked up on something else from those words. Venerable Yao no longer existed—could a Yao Half-Saint, or even a Yao Saint, be about to emerge…
Since Yao Lao did not wish to speak of the past, Su Qian did not ask further. Instead, he said, "All right then, Yao… Yao Lao, I’ll take you to the Inner Academy."
Yao Lao nodded slightly.
Su Yu watched Yao Lao show off and revealed a faint smile. The man who had harmed his good disciple was in the Black-Corner Region, not far outside Jia Nan Academy. Su Yu was now rather curious about what would happen when the two met. Would Yao Lao slap his good disciple to death, or let him go?
With the strength of a Half-Step Dou Di, Yao Lao could take revenge whenever he wanted. Yet he had delayed until now without making a move.
