Nothing to Do but Eat Liūliūméi
The air still carried a faint scorched smell. Lu Su stood quietly before the massive crater left by the self-destruction of the three assassins, considering what to do next.
He had already recalled Little Spider. Although he had decided to come clean, it was still best not to expose himself before then.
Mostly, he hated trouble. If someone saw it, he would have to waste time explaining himself.
He took out his phone and stared silently at its pitch-black screen for a moment before skillfully lighting it up and opening his contacts.
Lu Su: Senior Disciple Sister.
Kurumi: ?
Seeing Kurumi reply at lightning speed, he knew his Senior Disciple Sister had probably not been attacked.
Then again, Kurumi was a Diamond Grade Card Master. Even in Nandu, no one could possibly take her out without a sound.
Lu Su: I’m fine. Wait for me to come back.
Kurumi: Okay.
The crisp reply left Lu Su unsure whether his Senior Disciple Sister had understood what he meant or whether that was simply her personality.
After all, aside from the long sentences she had spoken when she had been direct with him last time, this was always how she normally communicated.
The reason Lu Su had not immediately told Kurumi the specifics after confirming her safety was that he feared his phone might be under Imperial Court surveillance.
By all logic, the Imperial Court should not have been capable of something so far-reaching yet, but what if it was?
Better safe than sorry. He was in no hurry.
Putting away his phone, Lu Su remained where he was and waited for Cui Dazhu. Judging by the time, the other man should be arriving soon.
Sure enough, not long afterward, the burly man arrived at the battlefield with three or four others.
"Little brother?! Are you all right?"
Taking in the completely transformed terrain, Cui Dazhu spotted Lu Su at a glance.
He hurried over, his face tense as he looked the youth up and down. "Little brother! Are you all right?!"
Lu Su waved a hand and joked, "I kind of want to eat some Liūliūméi right now."
Although he had no idea what Liūliūméi was, seeing that Lu Su was still in the mood to joke made Cui Dazhu breathe a sigh of relief. "It’s good that you’re okay."
"They ran away?"
He meant the attackers. Since Lu Su was the only one left at the scene, the most likely possibility was that they had seen the situation was hopeless and retreated.
Of course, it was also possible that the youth before him had wiped them all out.
Given Lu Su’s strength, Cui Dazhu did not think that was impossible.
"They’re dead."
Lu Su briefly summarized the fate of the three assassins.
Hearing this, Cui Dazhu could not help scratching his head before turning to the reinforcements he had brought. "This…"
"President Qi, it looks like you made the trip for nothing."
Lu Su had naturally noticed long ago that Qi Ran, President of the Qilu Card Master Association, had personally come to provide support. He gave the young woman a slight nod. "Sorry about that, President Qi."
"But there was nothing I could do when they suddenly self-destructed. I had originally planned to leave one alive and question them for information."
That was a lie.
If the people who attacked Lu Su truly had been members of the Guiyi Cult, he might have done that. But as long as the identity information Little Spider identified had even the slightest connection to the Imperial Court, he would silence them permanently.
After all, he did not know whether there were any moles within the Qilu Card Master Association.
But there most likely were. Otherwise, how could the attackers, now reduced to ashes, have known about his and Cui Dazhu’s itinerary?
At his words, Qi Ran merely smiled faintly. "Xiao Luo, you’re too polite. This was my duty to begin with."
"How about it? Do you know who they were?"
Everyone present knew that was just courtesy. Normally, there was no need for Qi Ran, as President, to personally come to the aid of a Jade Grade Card Master under attack.
Even if the opponents were powerful enough to require a Diamond Grade Card Master, the Qilu Card Master Association Headquarters had more than one Diamond Grade Card Master.
Still, everyone knew why the young woman had done this. It was simply because Lu Su was Bai Yueming’s disciple, and because his talent was truly terrifying.
Facing her question, Lu Su answered calmly on the surface, "They were from the Guiyi Cult. They somehow learned about Brother Cui’s and my mission, so they came to intercept and kill us."
Upon hearing the words Guiyi Cult, everyone present showed expressions of understanding. However, one person’s eyes flickered.
If Lu Su had not known the attackers’ true identities, he might not have cared. But now that he knew full well that the Imperial Court had sent people to assassinate him, he naturally caught that subtle reaction.
Unfortunately, he was unfamiliar with the people who had come. After all, Lu Su had not been in the Mobile Unit for very long.
He silently memorized the person’s appearance, intending to investigate their identity after this was over.
At that moment, concern appeared between Qi Ran’s brows. "Since Xiao Luo and Xiao Cui are unharmed, you should head to Jeju as soon as possible."
"The situation there isn’t looking good."
After a moment of silence, she sighed and continued, "If even you two can’t handle it, then the Vice President and I will have to act."
The reason Qi Ran and the Vice President had not gone to Jeju to suppress the situation this time was entirely because they had other matters on their hands. Moreover, no Diamond Grade demons had appeared in Jeju yet, so there was naturally no need for them to act.
Qi Ran had only been able to come rescue Lu Su because she had instructed her subordinates to report all information concerning him to her.
Hearing this, Lu Su and Cui Dazhu exchanged a glance, then solemnly nodded. "Please rest assured, President Qi. We’ll do our best."
With that, the two bid farewell to the Card Masters who had come to help and turned toward Jeju.
Watching their departing backs, a Card Master approached Qi Ran and said with concern, "President, the Guiyi Cult is getting more and more brazen. Shouldn’t we inform the Shuběi Army?"
The speaker was the very Card Master Lu Su had just noticed acting strangely.
Qi Ran glanced at him and replied evenly, "The Shuběi Army is under considerable pressure as well. Besides, I already informed the two Master Card Masters earlier."
"This isn’t something you should worry about."
Hearing this, the Card Master who had spoken stiffened, then wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. "I spoke out of turn."
Though he said so, he felt no dissatisfaction. His goal had already been achieved.
Now, the Qilu Card Master Association would only focus on the Guiyi Cult. No one would imagine that the Imperial Court was connected to this matter. He had spoken up only to deepen everyone’s impression of the Guiyi Cult.
North Capital.
Inside a hall built from Fragrant Rosewood, wisps of white smoke curled through the air, making the place seem like a fairyland.
Within the hall, two white-haired old men sat on wooden chairs at the head of the room, speaking quietly. Several beautiful young girls stood attentively beside them.
Just then, an abrupt vibration sounded, drawing one old man’s attention.
Seeing that the other old man did not intend to check the message, he smiled. "Lord Sun, you should take a look. Don’t miss any important information."
As he spoke, his throat began to itch. Casually, he spat a mouthful of thick phlegm into the mouth of a pretty girl beside him.
Lord Sun shook his head. "What could it be? Probably someone in the family causing trouble again."
As he spoke, he took out a communication device.
But when he saw the sender, his brows rose. "It’s from the people we sent out."
"Strange."
"Did they succeed so quickly?"
Yet after carefully reading the message they had sent, his expression instantly shifted from confusion to solemnity. He quickly replied.
After doing so, he let out a long breath and handed the communication device to the old man beside him with a grave expression. "Lord Sheng, I think you need to see this too."
Seeing this, Lord Sheng also sensed that something was wrong.
He took the communication device and rapidly read through it.
A moment later, he abruptly rose to his feet and kicked over the girl beside him. His expression was frighteningly dark. "Get out."
Watching the girl hurriedly retreat without even bothering to straighten her disheveled clothes, Lord Sheng turned to Lord Sun. "Some old fools were saying before that we might be making a mountain out of a molehill…"
"I think we should throw this information right in their faces now!"
With that, the old man cursed under his breath before continuing, "We still didn’t take him seriously enough. We let that little thing grow into a threat."
Hearing him, Lord Sun first gave a bitter laugh, then a vicious look appeared on his face. "What’s the point of saying that now?"
"We should be thinking about how to deal with him."
Both men knew full well the strength of the assassins they had dispatched this time. Even among Jade Grade fighters, they could be considered above average.
With the backup measures they had prepared, an ordinary Jade Grade fighter could never have been their match.
Most crucially, it had been three against one, yet they had been crushed from beginning to end.
After a moment of silence, Lord Sun said in a low voice, "Send him. We’ve raised him for so long. It’s time for him to do something for us."
Lord Sheng immediately understood whom he meant.
After thinking it over briefly, he shook his head. "Gather the others to discuss it first. Having him act is still too risky."
"After all, that little thing should think this attack was the work of the Guiyi Cult."
Hearing this, Lord Sun could not help feeling disappointed. Of everyone, he wanted Lu Su dead the most.
Although everything had previously been approved by all of them, he had been the one to carry it out. There was no question that if Lu Su and Bai Yueming behind him learned the truth, he would be doomed.
Unfortunately, using that person was not something he could decide alone.
Helplessly, Lord Sun could only agree with Lord Sheng’s proposal. "Lord Sheng is right. I did not think it through."
As his words fell, the hall sank into silence.
After a long while, Lord Sheng sighed. "Come on. Let’s tell the others first."
"If it really comes to it, then we’ll have him act."
