Nuclear Missile Incoming

The Kunpeng’s enormous hull was inscribed with the magical circuits of the Bifrost, allowing it to unleash Bifrost magic as well.

This was originally a planet-destroyer-class weapon. With the Bifrost’s ability to lock onto space, the Kunpeng could even attack its targets directly across space, leaving them nowhere to escape.

Perhaps the energy fluctuations from the Kunpeng were simply too terrifying. On the other side of the portal, several more advanced-looking spacecraft immediately turned and fled, leaving behind only a single Chitauri warship.

"Earthlings! You will pay the price! The great Salos will personally come to your world in the near future and destroy you!"

Who knew what was wrong with their heads? Even in a situation like this, the Chitauri not only refused to surrender but still dared to make threats.

The Space Force had no patience for that. The magic-energy cannons, charged for a long time, fired directly. The terrifying energy attack passed through the portal and effortlessly destroyed the ship on the other side. At the same time, attacks carrying spatial locks pierced through space and pursued the ships that had already fled by spatial jump.

Trying to escape under the lock of Bifrost magic? Wishful thinking!

Unseen by everyone, in the distant starry sky, Thanos’s Sanctuary Ship was also directly pierced through by the energy cannons.

This sight left Captain America and the others on the ground immensely excited.

They had won! The alien army had been driven away by China’s Space Force!

"Then how do we close the portal?"

Looking at his devastated tower, Tony did not care much about money, but he still felt a pang of heartache. He looked at Loki and asked.

"Well, we need energy of the same level as the Tesseract to break open the shield formed by it, then destroy the device."

The machine Dr. Selvig had built was not particularly sturdy and could easily be destroyed. However, the Tesseract’s own overflowing energy had formed a powerful energy shield around it.

It was precisely this shield formed by the Tesseract that left everyone present helpless.

Even in the original story, Natasha had only managed to break through the shield and close the portal by using the Mind Stone’s energy.

And now, Thor’s Spear containing the Mind Stone had already been returned to Chen Mu.

So for the moment, these people truly had no way to close the portal.

"Wait, why don’t we just blow up the building? Wouldn’t that close the portal?"

Captain America asked curiously at that moment.

"Leaving aside whether that would even work, why should we blow up my building?"

Tony Stark looked at Captain America with an unhappy expression.

It really wasn’t your property, so you didn’t feel bad about it, huh?

It was true that he had plenty of money, but that did not mean he could tolerate people casually wasting it like this.

And more importantly, why did you get to make the decision? Did you have to take all the credit for being the good guy?

Although Tony did not harbor much hatred toward Captain America, he deeply disliked his presumptuous, self-righteous personality.

Hearing Captain America casually make a decision on his behalf made him extremely displeased.

"The spear I returned to Chen Mu contains a Mind Stone. It can break the Tesseract’s shield."

Loki said matter-of-factly.

"Then what are we waiting for? I’ll call Chen Mu right away."

Since there was a way to deal with it, Tony naturally did not want the tower blown up. More importantly, he did not want to give Captain America his way.

Judging solely by how much each side had contributed in this Battle of New York, Captain America’s contribution had been far too limited.

Not to mention that the performance of the American military and S.H.I.E.L.D., represented by Captain America, had been utterly disappointing.

Just look at them. When ordinary people’s lives were at stake, whether it was S.H.I.E.L.D. or the American military, they had directly abandoned civilians and chosen to run away!

In Tony’s eyes, that was simply shameful.

And yet these people went around every day proclaiming themselves an organization that protected Earth. When real problems arose, when actual danger appeared, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s people ran faster than anyone else.

"Fine, then. I’ll go close the portal."

At that moment, Chen Mu and Nezha, standing atop flying swords, had already arrived before the group. After hearing Tony’s words, Chen Mu spoke with a smile.

Excellent! It looked like he was about to get another Infinity Stone.

Although Chen Mu already had one Space Stone—the Tesseract—in his possession, who would ever complain about having too many treasures like that?

Having long intended to claim the Infinity Stones for himself, Chen Mu unhesitatingly opened a portal and appeared atop Stark Tower, directly before the portal device.

Dr. Selvig had long since been rescued by S.H.I.E.L.D.’s people. The rooftop was now completely empty, with no one to disturb Chen Mu.

He took out Thor’s Spear containing the Mind Stone and thrust it fiercely at the protective shield formed by the Tesseract, easily piercing straight through it. Then he reached out with his right hand toward the Tesseract.

The second Space Stone was his.

Chen Mu was still extremely pleased to obtain another Tesseract.

At the same time Chen Mu took the Tesseract, the portal in the sky slowly shrank before finally disappearing.

When Chen Mu returned to the ground with a delighted expression, he found that everyone present looked rather grim.

"What happened?"

Seeing this, Chen Mu could not help asking curiously.

"We just received word that the American military fired a nuclear missile at New York."

Tony looked exceedingly grave. That single nuclear bomb was enough to destroy all of New York City.

They had clearly already defeated the alien army and closed the portal. Tony found it hard to imagine why the American military would still launch a nuclear missile under such circumstances.

"They launched a nuclear missile?"

Chen Mu was somewhat surprised, because this was entirely beyond his expectations.

In his view, the Space Force had already driven the alien army out of Earth. Under those circumstances, there was no reason whatsoever for the American military to launch a nuclear weapon.

But reality was always capable of producing the unexpected. Chen Mu had no idea what was going on now.

"Interesting."

Hearing that, Chen Mu considered many things, and the corners of his mouth slowly curled upward.

He quickly understood why the American military had launched the nuclear missile.

They had seen the power of China’s military—the terrifying Space Force. Even aliens had possessed no ability to resist in their hands.

So rather than saying America wanted to use nuclear weapons to eliminate the aliens, it would be more accurate to say that it intended to use nuclear weapons to eliminate this Space Force.

Americans had always been like this. If they could not obtain something, or did not possess it themselves, they would do everything possible to make sure no one else could have it either.

China possessed a powerful Space Force while the American military did not. Clearly, they had already lost their minds. By launching a nuclear missile, they undoubtedly intended, at least in part, to destroy the Space Force.
