#37
One Dares to Say It, One Dares to Believe It
"…Why is it another child genius?!"
Kraft opened his eyes and sat up in bed, rubbing his temples irritably.
He had dreamed again. This time, the dream’s protagonist seemed even more outrageous than Dr. Dongyun.
Though he was two years older than Dr. Dongyun, this little boy called Child Emperor created things far more practical than Dr. Dongyun’s inventions.
Or rather, things with much greater combat power.
From that perspective, Kraft was quite pleased to have dreamed of him.
It was just a bit of a blow to his self-esteem.
And compared to little Dongyun’s utterly unreasonable level of genius, Child Emperor’s genius at least had some logic behind it—he had made himself a learning helmet that could directly pour knowledge into his brain…
All right, the learning helmet itself was already pretty illogical.
Still, it was tremendously helpful to Kraft.
Although he had learned many strange inventions from his dreams, he had merely copied quite a few of them without really understanding their principles. Some he only vaguely understood, while others he could not comprehend at all. But with Child Emperor’s learning helmet, Kraft could at least quickly grasp the principles behind those inventions. Instead of simply duplicating them, he could modify them into forms better suited to himself.
For example, he had previously dreamed of an invention called the Dragon Radar. As its name suggested, it was used to search for something called Dragon Balls. But there were no Dragon Balls at all in Kraft’s world. After making the Dragon Radar, he found its light too dim even to use as a lamp. It was completely useless.
But after understanding how the Dragon Radar worked, he could alter its Dragon Ball-searching function and apply its radar capabilities elsewhere.
There were many similar inventions. Previously, Kraft could only spend time constantly leafing through the books and notes left by the dream characters. In scenes without books, he could only repeatedly replay the manufacturing process and slowly piece things together.
Now that he had this learning helmet, things were different. Kraft could feed that knowledge directly into his brain, bit by bit.
Yes, it really had to be bit by bit…
After finishing the learning helmet, Kraft had tried it out and discovered that it placed demands on its user as well. A genius child like Child Emperor could stuff a massive amount of knowledge into his head all at once without worry.
But an ordinary human brain like Kraft’s simply could not receive too much knowledge at once. It would not literally burst, but if too much was loaded in, his mind turned to mush. His consciousness would grow hazy and his thoughts would descend into chaos. By the time he finally regained clarity, he had already forgotten seventy or eighty percent of what he had learned. He sometimes did not even know what he had done while his mind was in disarray.
It felt a little like his early dream state, or the condition those thugs who drank themselves senseless and smoked weed all day displayed.
Even so, Kraft’s learning progress had improved greatly. This was especially true in dreams where laboratories or rooms contained books on relevant scientific knowledge, making it much easier to understand the principles behind their inventions.
After absorbing knowledge from several different worlds, Kraft also discovered that there were differences in the rules of those worlds. Yet he himself could ignore those differences. Whenever he wanted to use the rules of a particular world, those rules would take effect when he made something.
"So does that mean I have… superpowers?"
Kraft lowered his head to look at his hands and muttered in confusion.
That also explained why he could master that bizarre technique from engineering—the ability to handcraft bronze tubes. It was probably some rule of the world of Azeroth.
There was no instruction manual for his dreams, so Kraft could only make deductions bit by bit based on his own experience.
Of course, the reason he could use the rules of dream worlds was not actually that important to Kraft. He was far more interested in the manufacturing principles behind all those dream inventions.
"Kraft, Bruce Banner has entered New York."
Countless rays of light gathered before Kraft, forming Angela’s phantom image.
After mastering projection technology from one of his dreams, Kraft had added this new function to Angela. It did not even require special projection equipment. As long as there was enough light, Angela could manipulate the lighting herself and adjust it to frequencies capable of projecting her virtual image.
In short, it was another piece of… uh… technology that refused to be reasonable with science.
"Bruce Banner? Didn’t that guy hide in some remote jungle? What’s he doing back in New York?"
Kraft had always kept Angela monitoring Hulk, that walking disaster. The information he had received before clearly stated that Bruce Banner did not want Hulk to cause any more destruction, so he had voluntarily gone into hiding, while also avoiding the American military that was relentlessly pursuing him.
Come to think of it, it was rather amusing. General Ross, who had been chasing Bruce Banner all this time, was actually his girlfriend’s father. And his girlfriend, Betty Ross, was the type to forget her father the moment love was involved—or rather, the type willing to give up everything for love. For Bruce Banner’s sake, she had resolutely turned against her own father.
But from Kraft’s perspective, General Ross truly had not done anything remotely decent. If his own daughter betrayed him, he could only blame himself.
"Bruce Banner seems to have found a way to deal with Hulk."
Angela had no idea that Kraft was currently mocking one of America’s powerful generals in his head. She still wore that icy expression as she mechanically answered his question. Only when she clashed with Jarvis online did even the slightest hint of excitement appear on her face.
"I tracked Bruce Banner’s recent emails and discovered that he had been using Mr. Green as his online name to communicate with someone called Mr. Blue. He also mailed some of his blood to him, hoping Mr. Blue could help resolve the Hulk problem. Now, it seems he succeeded."
"Mr. Blue, Mr. Green… Did they know each other before this?"
"No. Judging by their chat records, they seem to have only communicated online."
Angela pulled up several excerpts from their emails, whose contents indeed showed that the two had never met.
"WTF… Bruce Banner dared to mail his blood to someone he had never even met? And he even came to meet him himself? Wasn’t he afraid it was a military trap?"
Kraft was utterly dumbfounded. Why did this uncle seem even more naive than a kid like him? Had Hulk affected him so badly that his brain was broken?
"But he succeeded, and Samuel Stern, also known as Mr. Blue, is indeed not affiliated with the military."
Angela mercilessly refuted Kraft’s complaint, then added,
"However, the military has indeed discovered Bruce Banner’s whereabouts. They are gathering troops to capture him. But according to my calculations, Bruce Banner should have completed the treatment by the time the military arrives, so Hulk is unlikely to appear."
Kraft shook his head. "Tsk, tsk. General Ross’s luck… I really can’t tell whether it’s good or bad."
As for Child Emperor’s learning helmet, I forgot whether it was from the original work or some fanfiction setting. I briefly flipped through the manga earlier but did not find it, and I was too lazy to look for other similar inventions, so I just used it. Anyway, given Child Emperor’s abilities, making something like this would not be difficult. ╮(╯▽╰)╭
