Only a Billion

Once Sonia learned that spatial traversal, though profound and difficult, was something that could be learned and mastered,

she understood that as long as she learned it, she would never again have to worry about Mr. Kassadin suddenly going somewhere far away.

Because then she would be able to find him whenever she wanted.

As for how to learn it, that was not a problem for Sonia at all. She only needed to figure out how to achieve short-range spatial traversal.

Even if she only mastered a spatial traversal of one meter, achieving ultra-long-distance spatial traversal in the future would merely be a matter of time.

Seeing Sonia’s radiant smile, Harvey inexplicably felt a chill run through him.

Did I teach her the wrong thing?

Harvey looked at Sonia and thought to himself.

However, considering Sonia’s gentle and considerate nature, aside from wanting to be able to see him whenever she wished, she had never made any demands, much less harbored any thoughts of harming him.

Besides, he had merely explained the possibilities contained within Void Power to Sonia. He had not personally taught her or instructed her in all kinds of knowledge.

After thinking it over, Harvey realized there was no such thing as teaching her right or wrong, so he quickly stopped dwelling on it.

"By the way, Mr. Kassadin, tomorrow is the day everyone on the island worships you."

"Will you manifest yourself this time as well?"

After settling on her future direction, Sonia looked out the window. Hearing cheerful conversations in the distance, she spoke up.

"Of course not. Even if I were to manifest myself, I would choose a more special day."

"It is only the third year. Once every ten years is enough."

Harvey answered without the slightest hesitation.

The reason he had manifested himself back then was to let all the members on Void Island know that he was truly watching over them.

Now, even members who had joined the Void Cult later could learn of it from the other members, so there was certainly no need for him to descend and manifest himself every year.

"I see."

Hearing Mr. Kassadin’s words, Sonia took it as an indirect confirmation that he would be spending the New Year here but would not make up for the manifestation, and she smiled.

Harvey noticed that Sonia was in exceptionally high spirits today. Though he found it somewhat strange, asking would make him seem overly concerned, so he did not.

He went straight to the balcony, enjoying the comfortable winter breeze as he watched the Void Cult members on the island busy themselves with hanging decorations and lanterns.

Many Void Cult members had just returned from other planets, boasting to one another about what they had encountered over the past year while they worked.

Void Island was growing more and more like a home, and Harvey was quite happy to see that.

Time passed bit by bit, and soon it was midnight.

"Happy New Year!"

"Mr. Kassadin, please continue to guide me this year as well."

Just after midnight, Sonia looked at the still-awake Mr. Kassadin, bowed slightly, and spoke with a smile.

"Likewise. I will need to trouble you to continue taking care of me this year."

Seeing Sonia say this, Harvey responded politely.

When he had lived on Xandar, Sonia had taken meticulous care of him.

"It is no trouble. These are all things I should do."

Sonia did not mind hearing that and replied with a smile.

"But why did you not say that in the first year, yet suddenly say it this year?"

Harvey looked at Sonia and asked.

"Everyone else on the island says it, so I wanted to try saying it too. That is why I said it."

Sonia wore a gentle smile as she spoke softly.

"Sonia, you are becoming more and more carefree."

Hearing that reason, Harvey smiled.

"Then would Mr. Kassadin dislike that?"

Sonia’s eyelashes trembled as she asked in a low voice.

"No. You already take good enough care of me. Being a little carefree once in a while is nothing."

Harvey shook his head.

"That is good."

Hearing that answer, Sonia felt relieved as well.

Actually, when they had spent their first New Year together, she had wanted to say this to Mr. Kassadin.

But Mr. Kassadin had already planned to go to Earth after the New Year, so she had not been able to say it.

However, Mr. Kassadin seemed to be planning to stay here for a while next year as well, which gave her the chance to say it.

Although Mr. Kassadin’s reaction had not completely satisfied her, she could tell that it was merely a polite response and held no special meaning.

Still, for Sonia, Mr. Kassadin being willing to respond to her was already a wonderful thing.

"Let us eat."

Harvey glanced outside and spoke.

"Mm."

Sonia nodded and obediently took her seat at the table.

Aside from Sonia and Harvey wishing each other a Happy New Year,

no one else on the island was asleep at this time either. Everyone was happily greeting one another.

Sarah and Lalatina could rest tomorrow, and seeing how lively the atmosphere on the island was, neither of them went to sleep.

The two clinked glasses and drank in the villa, exchanging New Year greetings as they enjoyed their first New Year on Void Island.

The relaxed, cheerful, and peaceful atmosphere of life on Void Island made both of them like it very much.

They also planned to go worship at the Void Temple together around four or five in the morning.

Time passed little by little.

Sarah and Lalatina followed the large crowd toward the Void Temple.

However, the two drove there directly. It was simply too far to walk.

When they saw that the offerings given by the various Void Cult members started at three million,

Tony, in order to make up for his mistake of not bringing offerings in the first year,

and because he had learned from Miss Sonia that Void Island was currently short of money,

directly offered one billion this time. Enormous amounts of cash fell from the sky, piling up into two mountain-like heaps of money.

Lalatina and Sarah were both stunned by the sight.

"Holy shit, how much money is that?"

"That pile is taller than what all of us put together offered."

"Not much, not much. Just one billion."

Feeling the admiration of the surrounding members, Tony spoke modestly.

"Tony, I knew I had not misjudged you. Your loyalty to the Void Cult is beyond doubt."

At that moment, a booming and admiring voice came from above.

Hearing that familiar voice, Tony looked up and discovered that a large Cosmic Battleship had arrived overhead. Its hatch was wide open, and Lex descended from the sky, accompanied by a massive amount of money.

It landed precisely on the offering platform, amounting to another one billion.

"Good lord, did you bring a Cosmic Battleship here specifically to haul money?"

After Jarvis immediately calculated that the amount was the same as his own, Tony spoke.

"When I came last time, I did not understand the customs of worship very well. Failing to offer the most left me deeply ashamed."

"Therefore, this time I brought one billion to express my sincerity."

"I did not expect your thoughts to be exactly the same as mine."

"I truly did not misjudge you."

Lex replied as though it were only natural.
