Rainbow Mage: Qilin Temple
Bai Cangshu had never seen so many kinds of energy erupt at once. Streams of energy surged and scattered like an explosion.
He stood where he was as fragments and energy shockwaves battered the surface of his body.
He watched the woman wrapped in crimson flames slowly rise into the air, making no move to attack.
Every human in the warehouse had been slaughtered, yet he had not heard a sound. Moreover, when Hongye had entered the warehouse earlier, he had not sensed her either.
In this special, illusion-like space, his senses could no longer be trusted. The Hongye before him was most likely not her true body.
He could not even be sure whether the surging Energy Torrent before him was entirely real.
That was what made illusion-type Ability Users troublesome. They did not need to go to great lengths to construct some elaborate illusion. All they had to do was mix a few attacks that were impossible to distinguish between real and false into the real world, and that alone could cause plenty of trouble.
What was more, the master of this illusion was a caster famed for her explosive power. When one could not lock onto her true body, one could be blasted to death at any moment.
Bai Cangshu’s heartbeat continued to accelerate. Even without killing intent, even though the woman showed no sign of wanting to oppose him, even though Bai Cangshu had already guessed that this woman who had suddenly appeared here was the one who had betrayed Great Sun of Finality…
Bai Cangshu had no notion that the enemy of his enemy was his friend. Nor did he intend to join her ranks.
He was utterly loyal to his instincts, always trusting only the power he possessed at that moment. Within this Crimson Night, the presence of a powerful enemy stimulated the manifestation of his talent.
His heartbeat grew faster and faster, until others had begun to notice the sound.
The man in the top hat put his hat back on, glanced at Mercenary Tao, whose excessively swollen body had stretched his pink robe into a bizarre shape, and revealed a teasing smile.
"Are you that afraid of Miss Crimson Night’s abilities?"
He appeared utterly relaxed. Having put on his hat, he completely ignored the growing number of runic words in the sky, as well as the faint chanting.
"This chanting is actually just a feint. This lady’s ability is nothing like the so-called String Magic or Dragon Language Magic that outsiders have guessed at."
The man blinked. A red magic circle appeared in his eyes. Bai Cangshu could see that it was a pentagram wrapped in layers of incantations. As the red eyes emerged, intense magical fluctuations lit up before him.
Boom!
The Energy Torrent crashed into him. As he spoke to Bai Cangshu, he unfolded a complex magic circle before himself.
The next moment, an Energy Torrent of almost equal force appeared as well.
The two forces collided, causing a massive explosion. The terrifying tremors directly brought down the warehouse, burying all the corpses beneath it.
"This lady, like Black Knight, has her roots in the Type-Moon World~"
His tone was leisurely, as though everything were under his control.
Bai Cangshu also understood the origin of his ability: the Duplication Eye, a Mystic Eye from the world of The Legend of the Legendary Heroes. In theory, the value of those Mystic Eyes was terrifyingly high.
When activated, the Duplication Eye could completely decipher the structure, form, nature, and power of any magic seen through its gaze, and directly learn that magic. It was practically an enhanced magic-side Sharingan.
Combined with the Reincarnator’s diverse abilities and the analysis of other magic across various mission worlds, it could eventually turn its holder into a terrifying master of magic, wielding a vast number of magic-side abilities.
Although Great Sun of Finality had not anticipated that Hongye would betray them outright, Title-level Reincarnators were truly useful talents in the eyes of Supreme Experts. In truth, they knew about most Title-level Reincarnators.
Moreover, during the struggle between Great Sun of Finality and Life of Silence, they had prepared contingencies for many Title-level Reincarnators. Should any Title-level Reincarnator join the opposing side, they would activate those contingencies or devise targeted strategies.
And he, Rainbow Mage: Qilin Temple, was the contingency specifically prepared to deal with magic-side Title-level Reincarnators.
Qilin Temple brazenly observed Hongye’s special ability. This was an enormous Reality Marble. He analyzed its construction, searching for where she was truly hiding.
In his eyes, within that red world, there was a trail of flame-like footprints. They proved that the woman had been constantly moving through this Reality Marble.
She was not a caster who stood in one place the entire time.
He turned his head, following those footprints. He watched as Hongye seemed to move from her original position to behind Mercenary Tao, then appear near the battle between Moon Demon and Black Knight, before finally flying into the sky and extending all the way to…
Above his head?!
Qilin Temple looked up. A crimson flame wrapped around a figure as it plummeted from the sky at tremendous speed, like a meteor falling from heaven. It was so fast that, without this Reality Marble, the air would have been filled with the stench of scorching and an ear-piercing shriek.
Because she knew my Mystic Eyes could counter magic, and because of Rainbow Mage’s Title Ability—each time I cast a spell, the next different spell I use gains an additional 30% boost to energy concentration, stacking up to ten times—she knew she could not beat me in a spell clash. So she chose to use her identity as a Supernatural Ability User to fight me hand-to-hand?
Qilin Temple’s body vanished in an instant, and Heavenfall Flame crashed into the ground.
Then, the ground within a two-kilometer radius seemed to turn into water. The terrifying impact caused the earth to bulge upward from where the heavenly fire had struck, before spreading outward like enormous ripples.
At its highest point, it rose more than two meters.
Boom!
The tremendous blast nearly drowned out every other sound. Even Bai Cangshu was sent flying by that overwhelming force.
Rumble!
The ground of cement, asphalt, and gravel could not withstand such a horrific impact. It burst apart everywhere, the foundation collapsed under the blow, and the entire block began to sink.
The massive commotion could no longer be concealed. The entire special zone felt that terrifying sound, like an earthquake.
Bai Cangshu was flung into the air. After stepping through the air dozens of times, he quickly returned with Moonwalk. By then, the ground had been completely transformed. The row of shops and warehouses had entirely collapsed, their shattered structures sunk beneath the ground and wholly swallowed by magma.
Meanwhile, Qilin Temple, still wearing his top hat, stood in the air on the other side with a smile on his face, standing atop a magic circle.
"Don’t be so angry, Miss Hongye. If you use your abilities so recklessly, those people from East Xia will probably be wary of you too."
"Besides…"
His eyes opened. They were narrow, and the red magical power within them made his face seem somewhat sinister.
"Besides, if getting angry were useful, wouldn’t Reincarnators be furious every single day?"
He was convinced that relying solely on supernatural abilities and the physical qualities that came with an ability of that level, Hongye was no match for him. Thus, his words and actions were utterly uninhibited.
Whether in the space or the Finality Empire, Crimson Night had been regarded as above him in rank. Though he had always acted as if he did not care, he was actually dissatisfied.
As Hongye listened to Qilin Temple’s wild boasting, the anger on her face suddenly vanished, replaced by a smile. She stood on the ground while Qilin Temple stood in the air. Though they were a hundred meters apart, she looked past Qilin Temple’s silhouette and saw the figure bouncing through the even higher sky.
"Qilin Temple, don’t you know that you should never turn your back on a ferocious beast?"
Crack!
Lightning burst, and a sonic boom rang out. Qilin Temple turned his eyes and saw only a dazzling blue-white flash of lightning explode. A figure, strangely stretched to more than ten meters long, had already appeared behind him, its smile twisted and grotesque.
Mercenary Tao?
Why was he attacking me? What reason did he have to provoke a Title-level Reincarnator at a time like this?
Shouldn’t he be grateful that my presence had spared him from being killed by Crimson Night?
Countless questions flashed through his mind, but the violent power had already struck.
