Darkseid was dead. He had died horribly, eroded and assimilated by the Great Darkness's Darkforce, ultimately falling into darkness. "This damn thing is truly disgusting..." Donnie's expression was incomparably grim. He had personally restrained Darkseid and tossed a wisp of Darkforce onto him, watching with his own eyes as Darkseid's pure domain of darkness was assimilated by the darkness within it. Then he dissolved, and in the end, everything Darkseid was became part of the darkness.
