#639
Resurrection Is a Miracle
Over the pitch-black sea, a blue-white light flared, followed by a man-sized blue-white Teleportation Gate.
Two figures stepped out of the gate. The bronze-skinned man in a floral shirt looked at the black-haired woman lying in the ocean, her body continuously washed by the waves, and shook his head.
"That beast really just threw him into this world?"
Two slender, elongated Soul-Devouring Worms flew beside the woman in the moon-white robes. Her body seemed weightless, allowing her to ride atop the worms. In the blink of an eye, she floated above the Professor’s "corpse."
Sorrow filled her eyes as she extended a hand. Specks of spiritual light fell into the Professor’s body.
The next moment, the Professor’s eyes flew open. Gasping for breath, he sat up from the seawater. The violent movement left his body no longer supported by the water, and he began to sink.
Startled awake, he paddled his arms several times to steady himself on the surface before noticing the two people before him.
"President, Sister Loman, did I… die once?!"
The Professor’s head throbbed painfully as countless images flooded his mind, beginning from when he stared directly at the Life Furnace, suffered a devastating impact, and was sent into the sea on the verge of death.
Then came the attacks of those monsters, each capable of destroying islands, after which Saber threw him toward the ocean.
In the end, he still died?!
Loman nodded, unwilling to say more. Whenever she saw this authority of Resurrection Is a Miracle, she thought of Roland.
An uncontrollable regret rose in her heart—why hadn’t the boss possessed such an authority back then?
Cao Qi saw through Loman’s thoughts, and the smile on his face faded somewhat. Miracles like resurrection were not omnipotent. Against many abilities that could mutate a person and make them suffer worse than death, resurrection might not be useful.
Resurrection was merely a miracle granted in advance; it could not dispel a fate entangled by Causality Law.
If Roland wanted to save himself, he could only rely on his own Morning Star of Hope virtue. Unfortunately…
Cao Qi lifted Professor Ye Kai out of the seawater with one hand and patted him on the shoulder.
"You did well! Once we return, you can start thinking about what path you truly want to take."
The Professor frowned. He dismissed his Avatar and returned to his original male appearance.
"I did well?"
"Did Mercenary Tao succeed?!"
He had only just begun to smile when it quickly turned into a bitter smile.
"But that actually has nothing to do with me. President, as long as any one of us told Mercenary Tao this world’s secret, he could seize everything himself."
"He really is… too strong…"
Ye Kai recalled Mercenary Tao’s terrifying form after transforming. Even while on the verge of death, he could feel that destructive aura that made all living creatures tremble.
He even felt that among Azure Sky’s reincarnators, aside from the President, even Sister God’s Dream Blade – Senka, who was said to stand at the peak of the Swordplay System, might not be able to match him.
That was probably power capable of fighting a Supreme Expert with nothing but one’s flesh and blood.
And yet, Mercenary Tao had entered the space and become a reincarnator at roughly the same time as him.
Now, the difference in their strength was like heaven and earth.
Cao Qi turned and saw the black mist over the distant sea constantly shifting into giants, giant serpents, and tentacles. It grew larger by the moment, spreading toward the other side of the ocean.
This D45 World might soon collapse and perish completely.
Hearing Ye Kai’s words, Cao Qi placed one hand on his head and vigorously ruffled his hair.
"No, you don’t understand, Little Ye…"
"Just as Destiny once sent people to help Xu Zhiyu severely wound the King of Sky and Wind so he could obtain its blood marrow, sending people to accompany Mercenary Tao in acquiring the Origin Substance this time was also an indispensable step."
"Compared to sending others into this world and alerting the Primordial Dragon Court and the Life Court, sending in an inconspicuous fellow like you was the most suitable choice."
As he spoke, Cao Qi carried Ye Kai to the blue-white Teleportation Gate. Intense magic tore at space and dimensions.
This was a special scroll from the world of Diablo, exceedingly scarce in high-tier worlds. Using it to save a half-newcomer at the Strong-tier—Aizen and that person probably considered such behavior utterly foolish.
Cao Qi had not actually seen anything special in Ye Kai either. Aptitude, Destiny… he had none of it.
But he was willing to give him a chance. He had always believed in humanity’s potential.
Loman led Ye Kai into the Teleportation Gate. Cao Qi was about to leave as well when he suddenly froze. The next moment, as though he had seen something curious, an expression of extreme surprise appeared on his face.
Cao Qi snapped his fingers.
"Did that beast give you new life purely out of curiosity, or… is the beast changing too?"
"I grant you a miracle—a miracle that may save the world, Miss Seraphina."
A golden radiance slipped from his fingertips, drifting onward until it finally fell into a patch of pitch-black mist.
A blond man kneeling on the ground with a broken sword in hand suddenly opened his eyes.
Etoris looked around in confusion, unable to understand what had happened. His Excellency Lawrence should have devoured him…
Then, he thought of something.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
He clutched his chest. His heart pounded fiercely once more, and warmth surged through his entire body.
"Miss Seraphina…"
"His Excellency Mercenary Tao! I’m not dead! This heart of mine is still beating!"
He cried out toward the sky and received no response, but he did not care. He began running in a certain direction.
Though the world had become incomparably bleak, he suddenly felt inexplicably lighter.
The Professor emerged from the Teleportation Gate. On the other side was Azure Sky’s gathering space: an enormous beach bathed in sunlight.
A lush green plain met the sea, with a pure-white manor resting upon it.
As the Professor stepped out, Sen Xia, who had been holding a sword, finally shifted her gaze. The space’s top swordswoman lazily stretched and remarked casually,
"Mercenary Tao really let you die, huh? Heh."
There was not the slightest fear of Mercenary Tao’s strength in her words.
Loman and Cao Qi appeared shortly afterward. Sen Xia waved a hand, transforming into light and vanishing from the space. Taking time during her rest period to come look after them was already no easy thing.
She had a cold disposition and rarely involved herself in other members’ affairs.
The Professor nodded repeatedly in gratitude. Only after she vanished did he turn to the President, Loman, and the others.
"Mercenary Tao obtained the Origin Substance. Can we officially begin the Little Garden Plan now?"
He desperately wanted to enter that world. He wanted to know why his older sister had disappeared there.
But Cao Qi shook his head.
"Do you think someone like Mercenary Tao would use that Bloodline Item as we instructed?"
The Professor frowned.
"But he already promised us…"
Loman set down her teacup. She had an extremely poor impression of Mercenary Tao.
"Did we sign a contract with him?"
At Sister Loman’s question, the Professor froze. Indeed, they had only reached a verbal agreement. Neither how they would bring him into the Little Garden World nor how he would gain the dragon race’s recognition had been mentioned.
And with Mercenary Tao’s temperament, how could they persuade him to consume that Dragon King Blood Marrow, use the Origin Substance to ascend, and obtain the dragon race’s traits?!
His brows knitted tightly, but Cao Qi and the others remained perfectly composed.
"Don’t worry, Little Ye. That Little Garden Plan has actually already begun."
"From the moment he obtained the Origin Substance, he became inseparable from the Primordial Dragon Court…"
