S.H.I.E.L.D. Purge Plan

Secret underground room.

After the doctors, nurses, Steve, and the others left, only Fury, a female agent, and the newly arrived Kyle and Yutong remained.

Fury tried to sit up from the operating table, but his severe injuries and blood loss had left him obviously too weak. He could only glance awkwardly at Kyle from the corner of his eye.

The female agent quickly stepped forward to help him up, placing a pillow behind his back so he could lean against it.

Kyle sat in a chair beside the hospital bed and looked at Fury. "You all right? Seeing that you still have the strength to talk, I guess you won’t die that easily. If you do die like this, don’t put something like ‘acting captain of the Howling Commandos’ on your tombstone. I can’t afford that embarrassment."

"I won’t die." Fury’s face remained calm as he let out a breath and said with difficulty, "Just damaged cervical vertebrae, a fractured sternum, a perforated liver and intestines, and so on."

Even with countless methods of long-term support, he was no longer young. His dark face was mature and weathered, his chin covered in rough stubble, and he habitually wore a stern, steady expression.

Now, this series of severe injuries made Fury look like an elderly middle-aged man.

Kyle asked bluntly, "Do you know who attacked you?"

Fury spoke weakly and slowly. "Agile, extremely quick reactions, accurate marksmanship, Soviet-made bullets. An experienced agent skilled in assassination."

Kyle shook his head slightly and reminded him, "I wasn’t asking about the agent. I meant the person behind the order to attack you."

At that, Fury immediately fell silent. His expression darkened uncertainly, and he did not speak again for a long time.

It seemed he already knew.

Kyle thought to himself and continued, "When you were attacked, I was also attacked by the same group because I borrowed your car as the former director. Of course, they’re all dead now."

Fury’s body trembled slightly. The hesitation on his face was plain to see, and he seemed to want to speak but stopped himself.

"You still refuse to admit it? S.H.I.E.L.D. has already been completely infected by Hydra. They have people planted at every level, from the top to the bottom, and they hold absolute initiative."

Kyle paused, then added meaningfully, "The current Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. might even be Hydra’s top commander."

Fury finally could not hold back any longer. He sighed. "Kyle. You were right last time. I really am old and useless."

He had been famous for strategic command since World War II. How could he possibly not have guessed by now? He simply had not been willing to admit it after realizing the truth.

S.H.I.E.L.D., founded to eliminate Hydra and safeguard world peace, had instead been infiltrated and exploited by Hydra. It was an unprecedented global scandal!

And all of it had happened right under Nick Fury’s nose.

Fury moved his fingers with difficulty and pulled a photograph from his pocket. It showed the spirited current Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Alexander Pierce.

"A few years ago, he refused the Nobel Peace Prize. He said, ‘Peace is not an achievement. It should be a responsibility.’ I handed the position of Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. over to him."

Fury set down the photograph and sighed in disappointment. "Even now, I still find it hard to believe that he would be Hydra’s most important infiltrator."

"Everyone makes mistakes. As long as they can correct them in time, it’s fine," Kyle said indifferently.

Fury looked at him seriously and said for no apparent reason, "Kyle, you never make mistakes."

"I simply have enough ability to correct mistakes."

Kyle shrugged, rose from his seat, and walked straight toward the door. "The current situation meets the agreement you and I made back then. Fury, the enormous mistake you lack the power to correct should be corrected by me."

"Kyle… no, sir!" Fury suddenly became agitated. He struggled to climb down from the operating table, immediately tearing open his bandaged wounds and staining them red with blood. The female agent hurried forward in fright to steady him.

Kyle did not turn back and left the emergency room with Yutong.

Behind him, Fury’s pleading voice still came in broken fragments. "Sir, please give S.H.I.E.L.D. a chance! Wait another two days, just another two days…"

Only after they entered the dark corridor did that voice become completely cut off and disappear.

"Boss." Yutong quickened her pace to catch up. Looking at Kyle’s cold, chiseled profile, she softly asked, "Are we going to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters now?"

Kyle shook his head. "No rush. Two more days."

Once he made a move in this matter, all of New York would be shaken. The S.H.I.E.L.D. building would surely collapse by more than half.

Although Fury acted decisively, S.H.I.E.L.D. was the product of more than sixty years of his painstaking effort. Now that he had to demolish and destroy this completed skyscraper, even the most decisive person would hesitate.

"Once something has been contaminated and dirtied, cleaning it will not be simple. It can only be crushed and rebuilt with force and decisiveness."

After thinking for a moment, Kyle instructed Yutong, "Keep a close watch on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s movements over the next two days, especially whether Project Insight is activated."

As long as the Helicarriers had not taken to the skies, it did not matter even if he gave them three days to catch their breath.

But if the Helicarriers took off and Project Insight was activated, that would touch the bottom line of what Kyle could currently permit.

From this moment onward, the S.H.I.E.L.D. purge plan was completely tied to Project Insight.

After leaving the underground room, Kyle and Yutong drove back to the Emperor Building.

When the car stopped before the building’s main entrance, a burst of noisy arguing came from the doorway. It drew Kyle’s surprised gaze as he got out of the car.

He saw two tall, imposing card disciples in suits and sunglasses. One stood on each side of a pretty girl, gripping her arms and carrying her toward the entrance with her feet dangling in the air.

The punk girl struggled fiercely, anger filling her beautiful face beneath its smoky makeup. When she realized she could not break free with arm strength alone, she coldly threatened, "Let go of me now, or I won’t be polite to either of you!"

"And what can you do to us?" one of the card disciples scoffed.

"Don’t force me!" The punk girl raised an eyebrow coldly. The card disciples did not notice that a faint green mist had begun to glow from her palms.

Just then, a calm, indifferent voice rang out. "What are you doing?"

The two card disciples looked up. When they saw Kyle returning to the entrance, they were badly startled. They hurriedly released the punk girl’s arms, respectfully lowered their heads, and bowed. "Greetings, Patriarch!"

The punk girl glanced at Kyle, then silently lowered her head to straighten her sleeves. The green mist around her hands vanished without a sound, as if it had never appeared.

The other card disciple explained, "This girl came to the company’s inquiry desk and insisted that she was a friend of Overseer Yutong. She even openly cursed you."

Yutong stepped forward and softly said, "She really is my friend. That is correct."

The two card disciples were both stunned. The family’s demon overseer actually had friends?

"All right, get back to your work." Kyle looked at the punk girl and said with slight helplessness, "As for her, it’s no big deal whether she curses me once or even ten times."

Why had this little lady come to the Supernatural Affairs Agency on her own?

Let me recommend a friend’s book: Saitama’s Journey Through the Multiverse

It has a similarly semi-invincible style and is an infinite-world story. Friends who like One Punch Man can check it out.
