#335

Southern Heavenly Gate Project, the Reincarnators’ Weakness

A powerful wind pressure descended from the sky, blowing the sparse woods around them every which way.

More than a dozen helicopters hovered at low altitude. Then, one by one, fully armed soldiers in camouflage special-forces uniforms rappelled down from the aircraft.

Lin Qinfu and several other recruited "local guides" stood in the woods, watching the scene unfold.

The soldiers descended from the ropes in perfectly synchronized formation, making everyone unconsciously swallow.

This kind of military bearing was simply beyond comparison with the armies in a place like Myanmar.

Whether it was their equipment, physiques, or spirit, they were on an entirely different level.

Even more frighteningly, behind them in the woods, a large quantity of military supplies lay stored beneath camouflage covers.

They were clearly in the Kokang region, yet Lin Qinfu had spoken with the locals there. No one knew when these things had been delivered.

East Xia had obviously prepared for this operation well in advance. Lin Qinfu thought that Boss Bai’s instruction for him to "leak the news" might not have been what triggered this operation at all. He had merely arrived at the right moment.

Once the force of fewer than a hundred men had fully landed, the helicopters swiftly departed. The soldiers, their faces concealed beneath camouflage paint, quickly entered the woods and began opening the covered crates.

Under the astonished gazes of Lin Qinfu and the others, large quantities of equipment they had never seen before were rapidly fitted onto the soldiers.

Pitch-black drones rose into the air, spinning as they ascended. Their movements were perfectly synchronized, and under the operators’ testing, they swiftly changed formations midair, arranging themselves into all kinds of shapes.

That level of coordination and control was completely unlike any drones Lin Qinfu had seen online.

That was not all. The soldiers began putting on special mechanical equipment. Like robotic frames, the devices enveloped their torsos and limbs, with extensions reaching beneath their feet and over their hands.

They looked extremely similar to the exoskeleton armor he had seen in movies.

Once fully equipped with the exoskeleton armor, every one of those soldiers stood over two meters tall. Large firearms and various ammunition were mounted on their arms, making them look nothing like the military Lin Qinfu remembered.

"When did East Xia get things like this…?"

Lin Qinfu was an East Xia Person, but the scene before him made him feel utterly unfamiliar with the homeland he had left more than ten years ago.

It was as if, when he had left, his homeland had still been fighting poverty, yet now that he saw it again, its art style had changed completely—it seemed to be preparing for a star war.

The Myanmar people exchanged glances, equally dumbfounded. The gap was so absurdly vast that they could not even feel afraid.

"Everyone, there is no need to worry. This time, we are merely carrying out a special operation to rescue a large number of East Xia People controlled by telecom fraud groups in the Kokang region. It will absolutely not affect the Myanmar government or your local way of life."

A middle-aged man in camouflage stepped forward. His smile was exceptionally warm, and he looked easygoing as he took the initiative to speak to Lin Qinfu and the others.

Lin Qinfu and the others could only nod hesitantly. Quite a few among them, like Lin Qinfu himself, had been or were currently involved in certain gray-market businesses.

Behind the middle-aged man, a soldier with short hair and a face blackened by camouflage paint walked over. He was not wearing exoskeleton equipment, carrying only an extremely exaggerated long gun on his back.

Its barrel was nearly a meter long, so it could only be slung diagonally across his back.

"Political Commissar Wang, preparations are complete. We can launch the operation at any time!"

His gaze swept over Lin Qinfu and the others without the slightest warmth.

Lin Qinfu found the man’s eyes especially intimidating. He did not dare meet them and instinctively looked away. But the middle-aged man called Political Commissar Wang walked over to Lin Qinfu and said,

"This Mr. Lin provided us with an accurate set of coordinates. Why not have Mr. Lin accompany you on this operation?"

Though he phrased it as a question, Lin Qinfu did not feel he had any choice.

His heart skipped a beat. The coordinates he had provided had come entirely from Boss Bai. He did not even know what those coordinates represented.

But Lin Qinfu did not dare explain at this moment. He could only raise his cane slightly, indicating that his mobility was limited.

The man gestured to the rear. The next moment, a six-legged mechanical dog half the height of a man emerged from behind the fully armed soldiers.

Each of its six mechanical legs had a tread beneath it. It moved as easily as if on flat ground in this environment, and at a considerable speed, arriving before Lin Qinfu.

"Get on."

Lin Qinfu cautiously climbed on. The mechanical dog immediately began moving. Lin Qinfu discovered that it carried him with the same stability and speed as it followed the troops through the woods.

The sight filled him with even greater awe for East Xia’s technological prowess.

Lin Qinfu and this special force swiftly crossed the dense forest, moving toward the coordinates.

Drones shuttled through the forest overhead. Lin Qinfu turned his head and, sure enough, saw several people riding mechanical dogs as well, wearing special glasses and holding control sticks.

They were clearly the ones operating the drones.

"Vermilion Bird Squadron One, extend three kilometers east. Video transmission functioning normally."

"Vermilion Bird Squadron Two, extend three kilometers south. Video transmission functioning normally."

A great deal of information was continuously relayed through this special operations team formed specifically to deal with Reincarnators.

They did not know the term Reincarnators, but through indirect inquiries, information searches, and hints from official Ability Users,

the countermeasure team of East Xia’s Southern Heavenly Gate Project had swiftly summarized strategies for dealing with these special Supernatural Ability Users.

These Supernatural Ability Users possessed different abilities of varying strength, and they also had covert means of communication and relocation.

But regardless of their abilities, they all shared one weakness—they feared exposure!

The countermeasure team did not know why this weakness existed, nor did they know why it could not be verified.

Existing records contained absolutely no cases of those Supernatural Ability Users being killed. In fact, there was not even a single official record of their deaths.

Those people were like ghosts, appearing mysteriously and vanishing just as mysteriously.

Because of this, some people, based on hints from official Ability Users, speculated that some kind of special Cognitive Interference was at work—a special effect completely beyond humanity’s current technology.

All deceased Ability Users would be forgotten. Even if they were recorded through images or writing, those records would be erased.

Only that could explain why the authorities could not document the deaths of Ability Users.

At the same time, this Cognitive Interference convinced the countermeasure team that the weakness of fearing exposure to the public was real, because the two were somewhat related.

Based on simple scientific principles, they speculated that Cognitive Interference also consumed some kind of "energy," and the more people knew of those Ability Users, the more "energy" would be required to perform Cognitive Interference.

The two conditions complemented and corroborated each other.

Therefore, in the first phase of the Southern Heavenly Gate Project, the method for dealing with these Ability Users was a technological formation: special operations groups equipped with cutting-edge technology would attack and force the Ability Users to use their powers.

At the same time, large numbers of drones, infrared cameras, and satellite imaging would expose the Ability Users’ existence and kill them.

This battle plan had received the approval of nearly all official Ability Users.

Today’s operation had likewise been finalized by the countermeasure team together with many invited Ability Users.

The man without exoskeleton armor walked beside Lin Qinfu. Only then did Lin Qinfu realize that without relying on any equipment, the man showed no signs whatsoever of falling behind merely by walking on his own two feet.

The mechanical dog was not moving slowly. By Lin Qinfu’s estimation, it was probably traveling at nearly thirty kilometers per hour. This man… was not normal!

Tianjie’s gaze was cold as he pressed his earpiece. He disliked Great Sun of Finality’s methods even more than he could tolerate these people disrupting the peace of everyday life.

There were too many madmen in that space who had lost themselves in their obsession with power. Such people did not need to be persuaded.

Only killing could forge peace.

"Vermilion Bird Squadron One has reached the designated coordinates. No living targets observed. Initiating infrared scan now."

"Target detected. Number: three."

"Vermilion Bird Squadron Two is beginning to confirm target identities…"

Tianjie’s eyes shifted. He drew a deep breath, inhaling a faint bloody aura into his nostrils.

His gaze grew colder as he spoke directly.

"Open fire. Those are the targets."

The next moment, the mechanical dogs changed their movement patterns. Their synchronized actions became irregular as black gun barrels lowered from their backs and began aiming forward.

These mechanical dog units were also equipped with cameras and transmission devices. They swiftly advanced through the dense forest.

Tatatatata!

Dull gunfire suddenly erupted, followed by fierce flames bursting from within a patch of forest.

"Damn it, there are cameras! Be careful!"

An enraged roar came from within the explosion. Then a massive figure emerged from the flames—a gigantic humanoid creature over ten meters tall, seemingly clad in armor.

With both hands shielding its front, it crashed straight out of the woods.

Lin Qinfu froze when he saw the thing.

"What the hell… is going on…?"

He even wanted to rub his eyes to make sure he was not seeing things.

But the mechanical dog beneath him had already accelerated at full speed, carrying him into retreat.

The giant seemed to instantly locate the unit’s position and charged toward them.

Tianjie remained completely calm and continued issuing orders.

"Vermilion Bird Squad, maneuver around them. Azure Dragon Combat Squad, retreat into the woods."

The motors and engines on the soldiers’ exoskeleton armor immediately roared to life. Bang! Bang! Bang! They sprinted at extreme speed in every direction, and the entire unit instantly dispersed.

The Reincarnator transformed into a giant smashed the ground violently, despair mounting in his heart.

You have triggered the Purge Mission. Kill all witnesses within 10 minutes. Current number of witnesses: 746

Could this forest possibly hide more than seven hundred people?

You have triggered the Purge Mission. Kill all witnesses within 10 minutes. Current number of witnesses: 811

Watching the number continue to rise, he finally fell into complete despair. There had to be hidden recording devices transmitting the footage to more and more people in real time.

There was no way he could kill every witness anymore…

Damn it!
