Summoning
"Purple Giant is gone?"
On Earth, as Thanos vanished, the oppression weighing on the people’s hearts swiftly dissipated. They could not help but breathe a sigh of relief. It seemed the Super Heroes had saved the world once again.
"Our world really is plagued by disasters."
The people could not help shaking their heads. Then someone asked, "When are we eating? I was scared out of my wits just now, and we’ve been singing and dancing all this time. I’m starving."
"Food! Food! Food…"
The people shouted in unison. To them, eating was the most important thing. Everything else could wait until after they had filled their stomachs.
Food was the first necessity of the people’s lives! In the Mind Sea, Wang Bert, floating atop the ocean as Invincible King’s avatar, listened to the cries of "Food!" resounding across Earth and said to Thanos beside him, "Look what you’ve driven Earth’s people to. Good thing I suppressed their anger, or Earth would have become a post-apocalyptic wasteland long ago."
"They are merely ants. Only you would plunge into the Mind Sea for them. Utterly foolish."
Thanos, who had returned to his normal size, spoke disdainfully. He now possessed a complete soul and one right arm, giving him roughly ninety percent of his peak strength—most concepts resided within the soul.
Wang Bert smiled and asked, "Ants? Utterly foolish? Thanos, if I’m foolish, then what does that make you, the one I outmaneuvered?"
Thanos had no answer. After a moment, he said, "You are too old-fashioned."
Wang Bert spread his hands. "Perhaps. But it doesn’t matter much, since I’m only an avatar."
Thanos felt an especially sharp pain in his teeth. That was right—Blood God was merely an avatar, yet one avatar had nearly killed him.
Blood God was truly terrifying. Fortunately, Old Tony had sealed off the Future Universe. Otherwise, if he had rashly returned to the Main Universe, Blood God would most likely have dealt with him long ago.
"Enough nonsense."
Thanos said, "You did drag me into the Mind Sea, but I am a Creator God. The Mind Sea cannot hold me, and you cannot use Fair Space here. Otherwise, you would have attacked me already."
"It’s not that I can’t use it. It’s just troublesome to use here. This is the Mind Sea, after all, and the same trick does not work well twice. The audience would think it lacked creativity."
Wang Bert said, "Besides, this time, you are not facing only me."
Thanos asked, "Who else is there besides you?"
"The ants you keep talking about."
Wang Bert raised his hand. Seawater rose into the air and transformed into figure after figure: Earthlings, Kree, Skrulls… All of them glared at Thanos with boundless fury, the kind of rage that made them want to bite a chunk of flesh from him.
"No matter how many ants there are, they are still only ants. They cannot deal with me."
Faced with so many furious stares, Thanos’s expression did not change in the slightest. He asked coldly, "But why do they hate me so much?"
"Because you snapped your fingers and wiped out half the people in the universe."
Wang Bert said, "After the half who died came back to life, they hated you to the bone because you took five years from them. A lot can happen in five years—for example, your wife remarrying.
"The half who survived hate you as well, because you took their loved ones from them. In other words, everyone throughout the Entire Universe now hates you to the bone. That hatred has even seeped into the Mind Sea."
As Wang Bert spoke, towering waves surged from the ocean. The Mind Sea itself was enraged—enraged at Thanos.
The Mind Sea had many layers. The seawater at the surface represented the minds of the living, while the silt beneath the sea represented the minds of the dead and certain indescribable entities. That could wait for another time.
"So what?"
Thanos said proudly, "I snapped my fingers for destiny. I was not wrong. They should not hate me. In fact, they should thank me, because I saved the universe and allowed them to die without any pain."
Though this Thanos came from the Main Universe, he had merged with the Thanos of the Future Universe. He had to bear the blame for the snap. In truth, he did not care, because he did not believe he had done anything wrong.
What was wrong with saving the universe? He had been carrying out destiny!
"Whether you were wrong or not, I can’t be bothered arguing with you anymore. But every living being in the universe believes you were wrong."
Wang Bert said, "Over the past month or so, I used their hatred for you to link them together. Now, it is time for them to take revenge."
Without that hatred, even Wang Bert could not have controlled the Mind Sea. After all, he was merely a god-level avatar.
This was karma. Thanos had brought it upon himself. Throughout all of history, he was the only one who had made the entire universe hate him.
"Revenge? Do you think I would fear it? No matter how many ants there are, they are still ants."
Thanos roared disdainfully. The surrounding figures could not withstand the roar of a Creator God and burst apart in great swathes, turning back into seawater.
However, in the next instant, the seawater transformed back into human shapes, staring at Thanos with even greater hatred.
"Even ants can bite an elephant to death. More importantly, a fierce tiger is leading them. Thanos, do not forget that I am here too."
Wang Bert spread his arms. Countless figures rushed into his body, making his aura increasingly terrifying. At the same time, the seawater beneath his feet rapidly sank.
Thanos’s expression changed. He could ignore the ants, but he could not ignore Blood God. With an angry roar, he threw a punch filled with endless power at Wang Bert. Everywhere it passed, the surrounding seawater disintegrated.
Wang Bert smiled faintly and raised a hand to catch Thanos’s fist. With a boom, the surrounding seawater shot into the sky and fell back down in a torrential rain.
"Thanos, this is my home ground. The entire Mind Sea is helping me. What makes you think you can fight me?"
Wang Bert looked utterly disdainful. No matter how much force Thanos exerted, he could not pull his fist free from Wang Bert’s grip. Thanos roared and kicked out with one foot, shattering space-time as it hurtled toward Wang Bert.
Wang Bert struck later but arrived first, kicking Thanos in the chest. Thanos was sent flying and skidded endlessly across the sea’s surface.
"I will not lose to you."
Thanos activated Titan Power, his strength rising without end. Then he slammed both fists into the sea with all his might, raising a thousand-meter tidal wave that crashed toward Wang Bert.
Within the tidal wave lay shattered time and space. Anyone below god-level would not merely be unable to receive this attack—they would vanish into nothingness just by looking at it.
Wang Bert smiled contemptuously and did not attack personally. A tall figure stepped out from behind him and slashed at the oncoming wave with her sword. The tidal wave abruptly vanished without a trace. It had been killed.
"Death!"
Thanos stared in disbelief. That was right. The one who had acted was not Hela, but Death, one of the Five Creator Gods. Her expression was icy, and she carried the imposing air of a commanding mature woman.
Ordinary people saw Death as a skull, but Wang Bert and Thanos were both Creator Gods. Naturally, they could see her true appearance.
"This is impossible! How could Death be here? The Five Creator Gods of this universe have always remained asleep."
Thanos shouted, "And why would Death attack me? I am her apostle. I have always been fulfilling the destiny she gave me."
"The Mind Sea contains not only the minds of all living beings, but also the minds of gods. Even the Five Creator Gods are no exception."
Wang Bert said calmly, "Through the Mind Stone, I summoned Death from the depths of the ocean and made her my companion."
At this point, Wang Bert paused before continuing, "The reason I summoned Death rather than Eternity and the others is that I am more familiar with Death. I am familiar with every part of her."
"Blood God!"
Thanos roared, his immense pressure causing the entire sea surface to cave in.
Death turned to glance at Wang Bert and said coldly, "I am not the Death of your universe. If you keep talking like that, I will leave."
As a Creator God, Death could forcibly end the summoning, though she would pay a rather high price. After all, Wang Bert currently controlled the Mind Sea.
The Five Creator Gods were gods of rules and faced many restrictions. Wang Bert was different. He had always been a "human" and had no such restrictions. That was also why he could not truly ascend to become a Creator God.
That was right. Though Wang Bert could fight the Five Creator Gods alone, his essence was still that of an Ancient God.
"My apologies for the offense."
Wang Bert bowed in apology. The Death of this universe had a somewhat different personality from the Death of the Main Universe. If Main Universe Death had heard that, she would certainly have taken the initiative to "spar" with Wang Bert.
"Death, you should not be helping him. We are on the same side."
Thanos shouted. No matter how confident he was, he did not believe he could defeat Blood God and Death working together. In fact, he could not even defeat Blood God alone.
"Thanos, your destiny has already ended."
Death shook her head. "Your destiny was to snap your fingers, then be eliminated by the Avengers. After that, you were no longer meant to have a role. You should not have come to this universe."
"My destiny was to be eliminated by the Avengers?"
Thanos was stunned. He roared, "Impossible! My destiny is to maintain Universe Balance. You were the one who told me that."
"I never told you anything. I do not know what happened in other universes, but in this universe, that is your destiny."
Death said, "Thanos, to this universe, you are now a calamity. Since Blood God summoned me here, I must help the universe eliminate you. Otherwise, I will be punished by the universe.
"Thanos, I will not betray my duty for you. So please, die obediently."
Hearing Death’s cold and merciless voice, Thanos felt boundless fury and despair. He roared, "You are not the real Death. The real Death would never say such things, much less abandon me.
"No matter what, I will fulfill destiny for Death."
"That is what simps are like. They think they are important to the goddess, but in the goddess’s eyes, they are nothing."
Wang Bert sneered. "Thanos, I have treated you well enough. I’m letting you die beneath your own goddess’s sword."
"I will not die. Today, the one who will die is you."
Thanos roared and wildly swung both fists. Countless fist shadows, carrying surging Titan Power, blasted toward Wang Bert, making the entire Mind Sea tremble.
Wang Bert did not care. He said to Death, "Send him on his way."
"Very well. Blood God, once this is over, I have something to say to you."
Death wasted no words. The black sword in her hand transformed into countless black threads that shot in every direction. The moment the threads touched the fist shadows, the shadows immediately died.
Then Wang Bert appeared behind Thanos and threw a punch carrying irresistible force. The surrounding space-time shattered completely.
Thanos turned to block Wang Bert’s fist, but Wang Bert blasted him more than ten thousand meters away, leaving his fist trembling violently.
"Empowered by all the beings of the universe, his strength has already far surpassed mine."
Thanos’s expression darkened. Just as he was about to counterattack, countless black threads wrapped around his body, and his life force rapidly faded away.
"Death!"
Thanos’s heart filled with grief and indignation. In his view, even if this Death had been summoned by Blood God, she should still have shown him some mercy. After all, he loved Death so much that he had even given everything for her.
As Thanos desperately shattered the threads around him, he gritted his teeth and thought, The Death of this universe is terrible. I will destroy this universe. The Death of the Main Universe would never be like her.
Death sensed Thanos’s thoughts and could not help shaking her head. She had no feelings for him, because he was merely a tool.
Death clenched her right hand, and more and more threads rushed into Thanos’s body. His life force drained frantically, and his once-powerful body even began to shrivel.
While Death kept Thanos bound, Wang Bert used the concept of creation to form a Little Universe before him. Then, as the ruler of the universe, he commanded, "This universe shall be a Resentment Universe. All life within it shall be resentment."
With Wang Bert’s voice, countless lifeforms of resentment were born within the universe. They immediately began slaughtering one another, causing the resentment to grow increasingly intense.
That was not all. With a thought from Wang Bert, resentment in the form of countless human faces emerged from the Mind Sea and frantically rushed into the Resentment Universe, transforming into lifeforms of resentment.
Wang Bert accelerated time within the Little Universe. In the blink of an eye, ten thousand years passed, and resentment surged madly. Once the resentment reached its peak, he would use this Little Universe to kill Thanos.
The greatest resentment held by those human-faced masses was the desire to kill Thanos.
"That is a Little Universe created specifically to kill me. If it is completed, I will certainly die."
Thanos sensed the fatal danger and struggled wildly. Death shook her head, continuously urging the Death Threads to bind Thanos as she shouted, "Thanos, today is the day you die."
To Thanos, Death’s voice was like a final verdict. His consciousness grew hazy, and he felt himself drawing ever closer to death.
This could be described with an old saying: when the King of Hell wants you dead by the third watch, who dares keep you alive until the fifth?
"Death!"
Thanos grew even more grief-stricken and furious. As he roared, he burned his own life force. He was absolutely unwilling to die here. He wanted to return to the Main Universe and save the Death being "bullied" by Blood God—or so he thought. In reality, Death could not have been happier.
Main Universe Death had once said that she had met many men, but the one who made her happiest and most intoxicated was Blood God.
"A futile struggle before death."
Death shook her head. If Thanos had been at full strength, he might truly have been able to break free of her restraints. The problem was that he was not. That meant he was certain to die today.
Meanwhile, on Golden Rice Star, as Thanos was dragged into the Mind Sea, the battle between the Super Heroes and the strongest Eternals became increasingly intense.
Through Sersi and Sprite’s efforts, S Ikaris had completely transformed into a red crystal. His face was filled with terror. He had never imagined that he, a mighty Ancient God, would fall here.
And that terror was permanently preserved within the crystal.
