#463
Team Battle Mission, Cruel World
"Damn it, what the hell happened to this world…"
The woman had long pink hair and wore a pair of rather cartoonish headphones over her ears. She stood atop Tokyo Tower, with one hand and one foot seemingly adhered to the tower, allowing the other half of her body to move freely.
The woman codenamed Lingling used optical equipment to clearly observe Tokyo’s most prosperous district below.
What should have been Asia’s most bustling urban scenery had now become a nightmare.
Countless Wights twisted their bodies as they frantically attacked humans. Their numbers were impossible to estimate, and ordinary humans had been reduced completely to prey.
More importantly, she saw two tall monsters with icy blue glimmers in their eyes standing amid a district covered in corpses. With a single lift of their hands, all the bodies eerily rose at once and became new Wights.
The good news was that the Japanese Government had already dispatched the Self-Defense Forces and established a quarantine zone in the direction of Shibuya. Creatures like Wights, no different from zombies, could not cross the steel torrent of modern weaponry.
"Lingling reporting. Two White Walkers spotted, coordinates: a district two kilometers north of Tokyo Tower—"
Bzzzt—
Only static came through her earpiece. No one replied.
Lingling felt even more uneasy. There were seven people in her Explosive Drumbeat team. As the third team to enter this team battle mission, they should theoretically have been judged by the space as a relatively strong team.
Yet after entering this world, they had not found the hostile reincarnator teams at all.
The moment they were deployed into Tokyo, they discovered that large numbers of Wights had begun appearing throughout the city.
Captain Andrei had judged that someone among the two reincarnator teams that entered before them had released a virus or created these monsters.
Two members of their team had surpassed the limit and entered the Second Tier. Wights should not have caused them much trouble.
Bzzzt—
The static continued. Lingling’s unease reached its peak, and she prepared to leave this high point and return to her teammates.
Team member TR13566690 has died. Team battle points -1. Current: -1Team member BX54134479 has died. Team battle points -1. Current: -2Team member DS71300144 has died. Team battle points -1. Current: -3A chill rose from her tailbone. Lingling instinctively released the magic connecting her to Tokyo Tower, and her body fell from the air.
The next moment, boom!
A warped explosion suddenly erupted where she had just been standing. If she had not left that spot, she would have already been caught in the blast.
Lingling had excellent perception. Looking down, she indeed saw a man in a special black bodysuit, gripping a highly technological-looking spear with both hands. Blue-white light lit up at its muzzle once more.
Lingling’s arm touched the tower again, and a row of magical patterns emerged from it. Her downward momentum instantly vanished. With a swipe of her right hand, she circled around the tower and hid behind it.
Her heart turned cold. The captain’s guess had been correct. The reincarnators who first entered this Gantz world had most likely been arranged to become members of the Tokyo Black Ball Team.
With Gantz’s technological equipment, that team’s combat power would increase tremendously. Therefore, they should not fight them head-on, but should instead find a way to join forces with the Japanese Government and the financial conglomerates.
She did not even have time to think about who the three dead teammates were before beginning a rapid descent from the other side of Tokyo Tower.
Tokyo Tower stood over three hundred meters tall, yet the woman reached the ground in less than ten seconds. Then she slashed forcefully with her right hand. The enormous Tokyo Tower let out a terrifying creak and began tilting to one side.
She could alter the properties of herself and the substances she touched. Although her energy attribute was too low for her to cast powerful magic, merely changing the properties of part of this metal tower was enough to utterly destroy its stability.
Amid horrifying noises, Tokyo Tower, the landmark of Tokyo, began to collapse. The man standing on its observation deck in a black Gantz Reinforcement Suit also changed expression, and vein-like patterns immediately appeared across the suit.
All his attributes enhanced, he immediately ran down the leaning Tokyo Tower.
Rat-a-tat-tat-tat-tat!
A torrent of metal erupted. A heavy machine gun began indiscriminately sweeping the city streets. Hearing it, Lingling felt a surge of joy. This was the signature firepower of the man in her team codenamed HOT.
She immediately moved toward him. Amid the terrifying roar behind her, Tokyo Tower crashed down, completely destroying an entire district.
The thick smell of blood even overwhelmed the dust rising into the air. No one knew how many humans and Wights had died beneath that strike.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.
Soft sounds split the air, and then the roaring heavy machine gun fell silent. The next instant, a black shadow shot toward her. Lingling raised her hand, but an icy sensation swept across her throat.
Pfft!
Blood sprayed out, and her consciousness rapidly began to darken.
Lingling clutched her throat and turned around. She saw a petite woman who was not wearing a black Reinforcement Suit. Instead, thick fur covered her body, and two cat ears protruded from her hair.
What made Lingling even more despairing was the head of a silver-haired middle-aged man, held in the woman’s hand.
"Andrei… Captain…"
The petite woman licked the fur on her right hand. Blue-white static flickered through it, while an eerie green glow radiated from her eyes. Swaying her body, she walked toward Lingling.
"Sorry, but we’re the sort of team… that concentrates its combat power in a small number of members."
"I’m stronger than him."
Lingling blinked, then felt her body suddenly become light. In her rapidly blackening vision, only her headless corpse remained, slowly falling down.
"Captain Bonnie, please get to Shibuya immediately. Our plan in Osaka may have failed. The last White Sanctuary team to enter is somewhat abnormal. The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons did not wipe them out."
Hearing her teammate’s call, the petite woman called Bonnie placed the two reincarnators’ heads before herself. Then she pressed her palms together and bowed devoutly. This was her personal ritual. She showed no mercy in battle, but she held no grudge against these two.
"I killed you, but I still hope you can pass on peacefully."
The next moment, two Scarlet Drop Cards condensed into existence. Bonnie put them into her Backpack, then pushed off with her foot. Like a spirit cat, she bounced twice across the ruins of fallen Tokyo Tower and vanished.
In a corner of the rubble, a boy covered in blood held a girl’s mouth shut. The two hid beside the entrance of a building that had partially collapsed.
"Brother, who were they? I’m so scared…"
"Where are Mom and Dad?"
"I want Mom! I want Dad!"
The girl wept, and the boy slumped onto the ground as well. He merely instinctively gripped his sister’s hand tightly, unwilling to let her get lost. Those monsters were everywhere outside.
As for their father and mother, from the corner of his eye, he saw a severed hand sticking out from the rubble. It wore a red toy watch. He remembered it clearly. That afternoon, his sister had sweetly begged their father to wear it.
After the disaster broke out, Dad had clearly said that as long as they hid with everyone else in this most prosperous place, someone would definitely come save them…
"Liar…"
The boy’s eyes were also full of fear and tears, but as he listened to the occasional wails coming from the rubble, he still stood up and forced a smile at his sister.
"Hanako, let’s go find Mom."
He saw a massive flying dragon crossing the night sky in the distance, heading toward Shibuya.
Fear and hatred mingled in the boy’s eyes.
"Those people in black… are liars too."
"Just… die… all of you."
