Technical Support?
As for Tony Stark, he was already deeply displeased with S.H.I.E.L.D. If he found out that S.H.I.E.L.D. had recruited both of his enemies into the Avengers Initiative, who knew what expression he would make—or whether he would still join the group.
When Hulk fought Abomination, Tony Stark had gone to help. He and Abomination could definitely be considered enemies.
And Whiplash went without saying.
Nick Fury really had some nerve. Chen Mu had no idea whether it was excessive confidence or something else, but Fury actually wanted to recruit all these people into the Avengers.
"You pulled these two into your Avengers Initiative. Would Tony Stark agree to that?"
Chen Mu pointed curiously at the profiles of Abomination and Whiplash in the proposal, asking with great interest,
"If I remember correctly, these two seem to have slaughtered your countrymen. Even if the number of your countrymen who died at their hands wasn’t in the thousands, it had to be in the hundreds, right?"
Well, well. Was he helping these two whitewash their reputations?
"That is none of your concern."
Nick Fury spoke calmly. In his plan, during the early stages of the Avengers Initiative, he had no intention of letting Tony Stark know these two existed. As long as their missions were staggered, there would be no problem at all.
"Are you planning to keep them apart by assigning missions at different times? Then, once it’s a done deal, there’ll be no way to change it?"
Chen Mu looked at Nick Fury in amazement, instantly seeing through his scheme.
"…"
The corner of Nick Fury’s eye twitched. Chen Mu had hit the mark in one go.
"No way, no way. Is that really your plan? Do you think you’re some master of time management? Impressive!"
Chen Mu stared at Nick Fury in shock. Where did this guy get the confidence to think he was some Master Show Lo?
What made him think Tony Stark would not find some clue?
It had to be said that Nick Fury’s arrogance even shocked Chen Mu.
"…"
Nick Fury was speechless beneath Chen Mu’s scornful gaze.
"I came this time hoping that the God Spear Bureau could send a few warriors to join this initiative. The Avengers will not belong to either S.H.I.E.L.D. or the God Spear Bureau; it will be an independent organization of heroes. Its members will all be heroes."
"Heroes who slaughtered hundreds or thousands of innocent civilians?"
Chen Mu chuckled and continued, looking at Nick Fury. "Is that your definition of a hero?"
"…"
Could they please stop talking about this?
Nick Fury truly had nothing to say in response to Chen Mu’s nitpicking.
"In short, give up on it. The God Spear Bureau will not participate in your super boy party."
"The God Spear Bureau possesses many powers beyond conventional means. Take Hulk, for example. I hope you can send two Hulks to participate in the Avengers Initiative."
"Don’t you already have Abomination? What do you need Hulk for?"
"It is different. Although Abomination’s strength is formidable, his intelligence is only equivalent to that of a three-year-old child. The power he can bring to bear is very limited."
Chen Mu remained unmoved, watching him continue his performance expressionlessly.
"If possible, we hope to repatriate Dr. Bruce Banner. He will participate in the initiative as an Avengers candidate."
"Dr. Bruce Banner is a free man. Our country has never restricted any of his actions. If he wants to leave China, no one will stop him. You can try it yourself and see whether you can take him away."
To be honest, Bruce Banner’s value was indeed limited. After obtaining the Hulk Transformation Technology from him, he was no longer particularly useful to China.
Of course, he held numerous doctoral degrees and was outstanding in several other fields of research, but that was not reason enough for China to keep him.
Bruce Banner was also enjoying his leisure now. He planted trees in the Great Northwest without anyone bothering him, living a carefree life.
"The Avengers Initiative is recognized by the United Nations. We hope that China, as a permanent member of the Security Council, can set an example."
Nick Fury took a deep breath and said, "If you cannot send warriors to participate, then the United Nations hopes you can contribute some insignificant technology as technical support. After all, Earth belongs to all humanity. China has an old saying: when the nest is overturned, no egg remains intact. If Earth is invaded by aliens one day, does China think it can stay out of it?"
Nick Fury spoke with righteous conviction, attempting to use the United Nations to pressure Chen Mu.
"…"
Chen Mu really wanted to imitate Loki and slap him across the face. Who was he trying to scare? The Security Council? What the hell was that?
China was already beginning to establish a planetary defense perimeter. Once the South Heaven Gate Project was realized, China would possess a large number of spacecraft and Space Fighters. Were the Avengers’ petty squabbles on Earth not a joke?
Avengers? Would they wait until someone formed a grudge with them and destroyed Earth before taking revenge?
If that was not a joke, what was?
"Tell me, what insignificant technology?"
Suppressing the urge to slap Nick Fury to death, Chen Mu looked at him expressionlessly.
"Hulk Transformation Technology."
Nick Fury stared at Chen Mu with his remaining eye and spoke in a calm voice.
"…"
That really was some insignificant technology!
Of course, that was only to Chen Mu.
Hulk transformation was a genetic engineering technology, and its efficiency was not particularly high. It was essentially a mutation technique, extremely difficult to control. S.H.I.E.L.D. had been researching it all along, yet had still achieved no results. Nick Fury was nearly furious with frustration, so he wanted to see whether he could get some technical support from the God Spear Bureau.
He had heard more than once that the God Spear Bureau possessed this technology, but he had never seen it with his own eyes. This visit was also a test.
"How big do you think your face is?"
Chen Mu tilted his head and examined the man before him, utterly speechless.
"…"
Nick Fury fell silent. Fine, Chen Mu had not said the technology did not exist. It seemed that the God Spear Bureau truly possessed Hulk technology.
For America, that was definitely not good news!
"If that is not possible, then forget it. I hope to arrange for someone to contact Bruce Banner. Only after hearing from him personally that he does not wish to return to America will S.H.I.E.L.D. give up on recruiting him into the Avengers."
Having tested the information he wanted, Nick Fury truly felt bitter inside.
Before, it had only been hearsay. Now it was practically confirmed: the God Spear Bureau really did have a Hulk army!
