Thanos Emerges
Lilandra heard this and looked utterly dejected. Her spirits sank even lower, and she became dazed, staring blankly at the floor with lifeless eyes, no one knowing what was going through her mind.
Danger Bird glanced at her younger sister and silently sighed. Turning to Warlord, she frowned slightly and asked with a headache, "Warlord, what do you think we should do next?" Alex had already disappeared, so the original plan was naturally impossible to carry out.
"Why don’t we find someone else?" Warlord hesitated for a moment before making the suggestion. In truth, Alex had never been an indispensable part of the entire plan. Danger Bird had insisted on sending Alex only because she valued his strength. Replacing him with someone else, even someone weaker, could still accomplish the plan. The results would simply be far less effective.
Danger Bird was tempted by the suggestion, but after giving it another thought, she shook her head again, her face full of frustration. "There isn’t enough time. Spartak probably can’t wait any longer." In order to give Alex a reasonable identity, the Shi’ar Empire had already stalled Spartak for half a year. They likely could not delay any further.
"If we can’t delay them, then let them leave!" Lilandra finally came back to herself. The moment she spoke, her tone was heated, carrying barely concealed anger.
Danger Bird and Warlord exchanged a glance. Their eyes flashed, then immediately lit up as they shouted excitedly, "If we refuse Spartak, they’ll definitely turn to the Nova Empire!"
Half a year had passed. While there had been no major war between the Kree Empire and the Skrull Empire, minor conflicts had never ceased. Caught between them, the Spartak Empire had suffered pressure from both sides and sustained devastating losses in just six months. If this continued, Spartak might be destroyed before Danger Bird even agreed to an alliance!
Faced with such urgency, Spartak had no choice. They had to find an ally as quickly as possible, one capable of resolving their problems. The Nova Empire, which was in roughly the same situation, was undoubtedly their final and only option.
As soon as he finished speaking, Warlord recalled what the Nova Empire had done in the past and could not help feeling helpless. "I’m afraid Nova won’t agree!" The current Nova Empire had no desire to interfere in the war between the two great empires.
"Then we’ll add some fuel to the fire and make sure they have no choice but to agree!" Danger Bird’s face turned cold as she spoke in a chilling tone.
Warlord nodded, turned, and headed outside. In the blink of an eye, he vanished without a trace.
Watching Warlord leave, Danger Bird turned to her sister. After she said something, Lilandra fell into a dazed state once more, her eyes empty and her face stiff, looking almost dead.
"Lilandra!" Danger Bird coughed lightly and took the initiative to speak.
Just as Danger Bird was preparing to properly console her younger sister, Warlord, who had only just left, came running back. His face was deathly pale, as though he had experienced something unimaginably terrifying.
"What happened?" Danger Bird could no longer spare attention for comforting her sister. Warlord’s sudden return, coupled with his incredulous expression, made her heart twitch. She knew something extraordinary must have happened.
Warlord appeared before Danger Bird like lightning. He did not even have time to catch his breath before crying out, "Thanos…" He had only managed to say the name before the rest of his words lodged in his throat, impossible to force out.
Lilandra, immersed in her own world, was disturbed by Warlord’s stammering. Her delicate brows drew together, and she demanded irritably, "If you have something to say, say it. Stop stammering!"
As she spoke, Lilandra instinctively used telepathy, intending to probe Warlord’s mind. Under normal circumstances, with Warlord’s iron will, Lilandra’s Psionic Power would never have been able to breach his Mental Defense Line. But Warlord’s mind was in turmoil now, his thoughts practically reduced to mush. How could he possibly withstand Lilandra’s psychic intrusion?
When Lilandra saw the image in Warlord’s consciousness, she finally understood why he had lost control so completely. Even she was left dumbstruck by the sight before her.
"Can someone tell me what exactly happened?!" Standing to one side, Danger Bird grew increasingly anxious when she saw her sister’s expression and could not help demanding loudly.
Lilandra opened her mouth, intending to say something. After thinking about it, however, she directly projected the image in her mind into Danger Bird’s consciousness, her expression extremely grave.
Danger Bird immediately "saw" the image in her mind. Her face instantly froze, her eyes widening into circles, horror filling her reddened pupils. "What… is he trying to do this time?!"
Within Danger Bird’s mental image, the towering Thanos sat upon an enormous floating throne, clad in golden armor. White teeth showed through his split lips, carrying a deeply savage grin. Before Thanos, a vast starfield was covered by a faint purple mist. In what seemed like an instant, the once vibrant region of space had fallen into lifeless silence, with no trace of life remaining!
"Destroying the universe—isn’t that what he loves doing most?" Lilandra stiffly mocked him. Then her face turned bitter as she asked slowly and helplessly, "Sister, what should we do?"
During the last cosmic crisis, Thanos had ravaged the entire universe with his overwhelming strength and the Cosmic Cube. If Warlock Adam had not defeated Thanos through wisdom at the final moment, the whole universe would likely have been destroyed by him.
Now Thanos had returned once again. Who would save them this time?
Hearing Lilandra’s question, Danger Bird hesitated for a long while before turning to Warlord. "Does anyone else know about this?"
"The affected area is on the frontier of the Shi’ar Empire, in a cosmic wasteland. For the moment, the other empires probably don’t know yet." Warlord shook his head, his expression somewhat awkward. The area Thanos had chosen was a remote and desolate place. If no one had pointed it out, Warlord might not even have known it belonged to the Shi’ar Empire.
Upon hearing this, the two faint brows at the corners of Danger Bird’s eyes unconsciously furrowed together. Only after a long while did they slowly relax, and her tone seemed to lighten with them. "Seal off the news immediately. Do everything possible to lure Thanos to the Kree and Skrull!" Crisis always came with opportunity. After her initial despair at facing the invincible Thanos, Danger Bird immediately thought of this immensely dangerous plan.
Lilandra froze when she heard that. After standing there blankly for a while, she turned, intending to persuade her sister. Unfortunately, Danger Bird seemed to have already seen through Lilandra’s thoughts. The moment she finished speaking, she turned and left, giving Lilandra no chance to say a word.
Watching Danger Bird’s retreating back, Lilandra felt utterly frustrated.
Warlord was equally frustrated. In truth, he did not approve of Danger Bird’s plan either. One wrong move might anger Thanos, and then they would be in real trouble. But Danger Bird had already left, and Warlord had no choice but to follow her orders, no matter how unwilling he was!
Nothing more to say. Updates have resumed…
