The Gravely Wounded Alien

The sun had fallen below the horizon, and night had already blanketed the entire Northern Hemisphere.

The night sky above New York City was exceptionally clear, countless stars adorning the heavens around the moon.

In the cold autumn, days with weather this fine were rare. Yet on this peaceful night, a pink comet shattered the stillness of the sky.

It was high above the clouds. No one knew what it was, and from a distance visible to the human eye, it was only a faint glimmer streaking across the night sky. Most people overlooked its existence entirely.

But Kara was different. Her X-Ray Vision could practically ignore such vast distances. The moment the comet entered her field of view, Kara’s powerful perception locked onto it.

"What is that?" Kara murmured, narrowing her eyes as she tried to see the figure more clearly.

Sure enough, after adjusting her view, Kara clearly saw the comet’s true identity. It was a person!

No, not a person.

Calling it a person was not quite accurate. Strictly speaking, it was a glowing humanoid creature. She was racing madly through the sky, like a comet streaking across the heavens.

Perhaps that explained why most people had ignored her. She was simply too far from the ground, and being about the size of a person, she looked tiny from a distance. The light radiating from her body thus appeared extremely faint from the ground, invisible unless someone looked closely.

The appearance of this strange figure immediately caught Kara’s attention. With her vision, she saw straight through the other girl the instant she spotted her. The completely nonhuman physiological structure allowed Kara to identify her at once—she was an alien.

Ordinary aliens would not have stirred much curiosity in Kara. After all, there was no shortage of aliens on Earth. Just the ones she had seen over the past few days were enough to fill a mahjong table.

But the condition of this girl, whose entire body glowed with pink fluorescence, made Kara frown slightly.

There was a horrifying gash across the girl’s back, stretching from her right shoulder to her left waist. Blood continuously flowed from the savage wound, and the droplets froze into ice crystals the moment they fell through the air, vanishing into the night as they descended.

And that was not all. There was also a hole through the girl’s left palm. Judging from the wound, it had likely been punched through head-on by a small Armor-Piercing Round.

At the same time, the girl’s mental state was atrocious. Kara saw her nearly lose control of her strength and fall from the sky several times.

After hesitating for a moment, Kara immediately opened the window and lightly stepped out. In the next instant, immense force surged beneath her body, and she shot forward like a cannonball.

Kara’s formidable Bio-Field made her speed nearly impossible to track with the naked eye. In the blink of an eye, she vanished from the spot and raced toward the pink glowing figure in her sight.

Unlike other speedsters, a Kryptonian’s Bio-Field could completely control the effects caused by extreme speed. As she sped forward, Kara carefully concealed the sonic booms around her, because Zhang Ye had told her to keep a low profile.

In less than the time it took to brew a cup of tea, Kara reached the pink-glowing girl and slowed down to fly beside her.

"Hey, are you okay?" Kara asked worriedly as she looked at the girl’s clearly severe injuries.

Those few words made the girl’s entire body tremble. She abruptly turned her head, her eyes filled with incomparable terror, as if she could not believe someone had caught up to her so high in the sky.

"Do you need help?" Kara asked again. She could already tell that the girl was at the end of her rope. She was moving entirely on willpower, and if this continued, she would definitely die.

The girl opened her mouth as though she wanted to say something, but in the end, no words came out. She lost consciousness in midair, the glow around her body abruptly vanishing as gravity pulled her downward.

Seeing this, Kara quickly accelerated and caught up to her, pulling her into her arms in midair and stopping her fall.

At the same time, Kara wrapped the girl in her own Bio-Field. Only then did she realize just how terrible the girl’s condition was. If she did not find a way to save her soon, this alien girl might never wake up again.

With that thought, Kara abruptly burst forth at full speed and flew straight toward home.

Because she was trying to save someone, Kara did not limit her speed this time. As a result, she had trouble stopping when she landed. Though she tried her best to restrain herself with the power of her Bio-Field, she still accidentally smashed through her bedroom window.

Hearing the loud crash, Pietro instantly vanished from in front of his computer desk. When he reappeared, he was already gripping the Zeus Scepter tightly.

Just as Pietro stared intently toward Kara’s room, the bedroom door opened from within. Kara hurried out, anxiety written across her face. "An alien’s life is in danger. She looks like a superhero. Go find some first-aid supplies. I’ll get Zhang Ye."

"Huh?" Pietro froze, but quickly came to his senses and nodded sharply. "Oh, okay. I’m on it."

At such a critical moment, the advantage of a speedster became immediately apparent. In less than twenty seconds, Kara had brought Zhang Ye and John back home, while Pietro followed close behind, arriving "late" with the medical supplies in hand.

Bleurgh!

This was the first time the vampire John had personally experienced being carried along by a speedster. Even with the Bio-Field, he could not help turning around, clutching a trash can, and vomiting.

Zhang Ye was not in great shape either. It was not that he could not withstand the incredible speed; he only remembered suddenly seeing Kara before she dragged him home without explanation.

He had not even had time to grab the gold brick in his hand.

"Kara, you need to give me a reasonable explanation," Zhang Ye said helplessly.

At that, Kara raised a hand and pointed toward her bedroom. Zhang Ye followed her finger and saw an unconscious girl lying quietly on Kara’s bed, her fate unknown.

At the sight, Zhang Ye’s expression instantly turned grave.
