The Mysterious Heart Demon
When Bai Cangshu returned to his stall, quite a few Reincarnators were still gathered around. They were all particularly interested in Uchiha Obito’s Drop Card, while others had come for Dust Release and Ryūchi Cave Sage Mode.
"Mercenary Tao is here!"
"Mercenary Tao, you can’t use either of those abilities anyway. Why not sell them to us cheaper? I can offer you two C-rank Anomaly Points!"
The speaker’s Avatar had long black hair. Judging by his appearance, he was cosplaying a member of the Uchiha Clan. Bai Cangshu could not be bothered with such a person who radiated "brainlessness" from the inside out.
There were indeed quite a few people in the space who liked to cosplay Plot Characters. After all, when setting an Avatar, one had to imagine an appearance in one’s mind. For convenience, many simply chose Plot Characters who had left a deep impression on them. There was nothing wrong with that.
But this person had chosen the appearance of an Uchiha Clan member, developed his own abilities through the Chakra system, and now wanted to obtain the Sharingan.
In Bai Cangshu’s view, a Reincarnator who practically exposed all his information the moment they met was unlikely to have a high survival rate.
Quite a few people around them joined in the jeering. Though hardly anyone believed this would make Mercenary Tao lower his price, they all had their own motives. They merely wanted to muddy the waters, or deliberately create the illusion that everyone was "stupid" in order to provoke Mercenary Tao and prevent a deal from being reached now.
Some were gathering resources for an exchange elsewhere, while others were joining forces with teams and Reincarnators to "raise funds."
All manner of thoughts lay hidden beneath the motley Avatars.
"Look, these are Reincarnators. A bunch of lowlife scum."
A soft laugh reached Bai Cangshu’s ears. A woman in a black hood silently appeared behind him. The hood was clearly part of her Avatar, and no matter what angle one looked from, it was impossible to see the face beneath it.
Her hair and eyes were hidden in the shadows beneath the hood. Her exposed nose and mouth were delicate, and her voice was crisp and childlike. Judging solely by that voice, Bai Cangshu would have guessed that she was no older than ten.
A childish voice, a mature tone, and the other Reincarnators seemed unable to see the person standing behind Bai Cangshu. In an instant, he understood. This was likely Heart Demon, the most mysterious of the Four Demons of the East District, whom the space had spoken of.
This person had refused to join the Supreme Expert’s ranks, had been hunted down, and yet survived until now. She truly possessed unusual abilities.
Had she not spoken, Bai Cangshu would not have noticed her standing behind him.
What kind of concealment ability was this? Invisibility, an ability that erased one’s presence, or some form of cognitive influence?
No ability could affect other Reincarnators in the public space, so her ability could not possibly be hypnosis or Genjutsu. In other words, Bai Cangshu’s inability to sense her was not because he had been interfered with.
It was because she was extremely difficult to perceive.
Interesting…
Bai Cangshu ignored those calling out unrealistic offers and walked straight behind Li Qingzi. Black Butler was also there at the moment.
Black Butler had intelligence channels connected to several teams and over a dozen veteran Reincarnators, so he often brokered deals as well.
"The most valuable offer at present is probably this one."
"It comes from Clear Spring on Stone. He wants to trade one B-rank Anomaly Point, 8,000 Dimensional Points, and resources from the real world for the Ryūchi Cave Sage Mode Training Method."
After thinking for a moment, Black Butler softly added,
"In the real world, he is probably a member of some major clan in Japan, and he may wield considerable influence in politics. A few Reincarnators once obtained his information and went to Japan, but none of them ever appeared again."
Clear Spring on Stone was not currently one of his clients, so Black Butler had no intention of keeping his secrets. The man had approached him himself and used his channels to trade with Mercenary Tao.
Of course, if this deal went through and Mercenary Tao and Clear Spring on Stone did not become enemies, Black Butler would also try to recruit him as a client.
But judging by the current situation, that chance… was very small.
Black Butler was not stupid. On the contrary, he was shrewd, and he immediately saw the hidden meaning behind this deal.
"Resources from the real world… Is he trying to take me under his wing?"
Bai Cangshu naturally understood Clear Spring on Stone’s true purpose as well. He did not get angry, but the woman standing behind him spoke up.
"A prime minister’s grandson, and he thinks he can still rely on his real-world influence to get whatever he wants in the space. How foolish. I’ll help you kill him."
Bai Cangshu turned around and saw that the woman was under 1.7 meters tall. Her black hood completely enveloped her body. Even Black Butler, who had been speaking with him all this time, had not noticed that Heart Demon was nearby and conversing with Bai Cangshu.
The corner of Bai Cangshu’s mouth curled up.
"You know his identity in the real world?"
"Why not give me that information? I can offer you payment…"
His smile was natural, and he was not affected in the slightest by Heart Demon’s strange display.
Black Butler frowned. He saw Mercenary Tao suddenly turn around and speak with his back to him. Unsure whether Mercenary Tao was talking to him, he could only say awkwardly,
"I don’t have his exact identity information for now, but if you want it, I can try to gather it. As for the price…"
Bai Cangshu lowered his gaze at the petite woman. She was indeed the sort of person whose extraordinariness was apparent at first glance, no ordinary figure.
Heart Demon raised her head. Only half her face remained visible. The corner of her mouth rose as she suddenly asked,
"Pride. I smell Pride. Mercenary Tao, are you the holder of the Sin of Pride?"
His identity as a Special Reincarnator had suddenly been exposed, yet Bai Cangshu’s expression remained unchanged. Instead, he pressed further.
"It seems you are not unfamiliar with Great Sin Reincarnators. Have you encountered other Reincarnators of the Great Sin System?"
Bai Cangshu instantly caught more information from her words. Great Sin Reincarnators could only come into contact with the Sublimation Sequence once their Karma Points exceeded ten.
Only after the Sublimation Sequence would specific Great Sin names appear.
Heart Demon had called him the Sin of Pride. Clearly, she had previously encountered a Reincarnator with a specific Great Sin Sequence.
That meant at least one second-tier or higher Reincarnator of the Great Sin System was acquainted with Heart Demon.
"Hehe~ Hehe, Mercenary Tao, you truly are impressive."
"I like you very much. You are better than those three idiots, Great Demon, Moon Demon, and Flame Demon."
Bai Cangshu glanced at Moon Demon Li Qingzi, who was still seated before the stall with a mask on, and smiled.
"Yes, of course I am better than them."
"I have a big deal I want to discuss with you. What do you think?"
"This is a~ big deal that only those who are truly outstanding are qualified to sit at the table for."
Terrifying greed colored the girl’s voice.
Bai Cangshu was also curious about Heart Demon’s abilities and temperament. What interested him even more was the big deal mentioned by someone who had been hunted by the Supreme Expert all this time.
"What big deal? Let’s hear it."
Heart Demon suddenly stepped forward twice, coming so close to Bai Cangshu that the space’s protective barrier appeared between them.
Her voice was soft, filled with intense excitement and delight.
"A deal to hunt a Supreme Expert. What do you think? Isn’t that interesting? Ha~"
