The World’s Best Food Is at Street Stalls
Adam had two purposes in doing this:
First, people did indeed feel awe toward the strong, but toward those so powerful they surpassed all imagination, they would only feel fear and rejection.
That was because the strong were targets to look up to and pursue, role models worth learning from. But someone stronger than imagination itself became an aberration, and people instinctively rejected aberrations.
That was also why Adam still fought using wizards’ spells, at most letting Xiao Hei out to clear the field.
If he blindly pursued destructive power, he could casually drag down a large meteor from space. Its destructive force would be far greater than any Little Boy, and there would be no nuclear radiation.
The second purpose was to prepare for the worst.
Isidora might not leak the news, in which case Adam’s actions might seem pointless. But if Isidora truly did leak it, then that would be when those actions proved useful.
Moreover, in this world, there was far more than one voluntary way for information to leak. Veritaserum, the Imperius Curse… Never place too much faith in the secrecy of information known by a second person, especially when Adam’s life was infinitely long.
A casual move made in passing might provide Adam of the future with a little more room to maneuver when adjusting his plans. Why not?
At that moment, Adam had already returned to China.
"Sorry. There were quite a few matters to deal with during this trip, so I was delayed for a while and kept you two waiting."
Adam’s figure appeared out of thin air in the room The Office had just prepared, where a corner of the Heaven and Earth Array had been opened.
"Not at all. This is our duty."
"Yes, Mr. Adam. If you still had matters to attend to, you could have come after finishing them."
Yun Jinshu and Yun Yanhu hurriedly replied.
Oh?
Adam felt slightly surprised. The Office seemed to already know what had happened after he returned this time.
That made sense. The Office could not possibly have failed to investigate his background at all. Though they were probably quite troubled by what they found, weren’t they?
Let us turn back the clock a little—
At The Office’s headquarters, a middle-aged man wearing glasses and sporting slicked-back hair put down the report in his hands and looked at the employee before him.
"You’re saying that a restaurant and dessert shop owner who dropped out of magic school midway through could freely enter and leave the Hanging Gardens Ruins, which had left the Ministries of Magic of various countries helpless, and could even travel through space across continents?"
"Uh, more accurately, he graduated early. According to Hogwarts’s new school rules…"
The employee spoke softly, then nodded after seeing the middle-aged man’s gaze.
"Yes."
However, the employee quickly added:
"Although it sounds outrageous, and errors may have arisen due to the Wizarding World’s relative isolation, we verified it through multiple channels before submitting this report."
"Go on…"
The middle-aged man picked up the enamel teacup beside him and took a sip.
"Ptoo—"
"First, the most basic point: both the name and appearance match. This person is a British Chinese, which aligns with the intelligence that Mr. Adam described himself as currently being Chinese, and it also explains Mr. Adam’s exceptionally friendly attitude toward China."
The employee opened the folder in his hands. The materials inside were far more detailed than the summary report he had submitted. The relationship between the two was like that between the main body of a thesis and the thesis along with all its references.
"Then there is the matter Mr. Adam mentioned about being able to decide on the donation of cultural relics… According to the results of our inquiries from various sources, Mr. Adam’s roommates include the current Minister for Magic of the British Ministry of Magic, the Chief Justice, and the next Minister of the Egyptian Ministry of Magic."
The employee looked up at the middle-aged man.
"Intelligence indicates that the British Ministry of Magic is now strengthening its ties with the British ordinary government. With such connections, he truly could decide on the donation of those relics. It completely matches what Mr. Adam said."
"Cough—"
The middle-aged man could not help choking on his saliva. He hurriedly took several more gulps of tea. This time, he did not even have the leisure to spit out the tea leaves and simply swallowed them.
"Such a formidable background? I can understand the Egyptian Ministry of Magic, since it uses a hereditary system, but if I remember correctly, Adam is only eighteen this year. How did his roommate become Minister for Magic?"
"The British Wizarding World previously underwent tremendous upheaval. We are still gathering and organizing the specific details. If necessary, we can first—"
"No, there’s no need. Bring it to me after you’ve organized it."
The middle-aged man knew that gathering intelligence on foreign Wizarding Worlds was difficult. After all, Wizarding Worlds were generally extremely closed off, and verifying the authenticity of all that information, categorizing it, and organizing it was an enormous and meticulous undertaking. It could not be rushed.
If Adam had not been involved so deeply this time, they would not have pushed their operational efficiency to such an extreme, recalling even personnel on leave and going to Britain to investigate using methods they normally would never employ.
For example, pretending to be wizards visiting Britain as tourists and chatting with local people to gather information… uh… things like that.
After all, based on Adam’s current behavior, his identity could not have been more legitimate. The Office could not possibly use any excessive methods to verify it.
And precisely because of that, the personnel The Office dispatched became increasingly certain that Adam’s identity was genuine.
After all, the Chinese food at Storm Restaurant was simply too authentic… Those of them whose digestive systems had been thoroughly tormented upon arriving in Britain nearly burst into tears.
Moreover, Storm Restaurant’s dishes were varied enough that employees who had been stationed at The Office’s branch far from home for years had never dreamed they would taste the long-missed flavors of home in Europe.
Back in the present, Adam resumed the travel route he had planned earlier. His mood had calmed, and rather than directly skipping the remaining stops to head for the home of his previous life, he continued sightseeing step by step.
After all, he had truly made up his mind this time. There was no need to rush. He only needed to keep a calm state of mind.
Adam was not worried that the goblins would suddenly do something to disturb him. Although they believed they had made their preparations, they still needed time to unite their forces and avoid repeating Ragnok’s previous failure.
Since they believed the outside world knew nothing of their plans, that little bit of time would probably take more than a year, especially now that the Egyptian Ministry of Magic had actually sanctioned Gringotts in Egypt. The increasingly cautious goblins would only move more slowly.
And so the days passed. Adam was riding in the car driven by Yun Jinshu when he suddenly said:
"Turn left at the intersection ahead."
"Certainly, Mr. Adam."
Yun Jinshu glanced at the crossroads ahead and answered naturally.
Although turning into that intersection would lead only to an ordinary residential area, this was not the first time such a thing had happened.
According to Adam, it was at the small restaurants and street stalls near residential neighborhoods that one could find truly local and delicious food.
After all, whether the shops at tourist attractions made good food or bad, tourists would only eat there once anyway. Fleecing each customer once was enough to make a profit, so the owners only needed gimmicks and stories.
But the street stalls and small restaurants around residential areas genuinely could not stay open if their food was bad.
Having eaten their way along with Adam, Yun Jinshu and Yun Yanhu had this to say:
Mr. Adam was right. (drool)
