Together We Fall
In terms of sheer durability, the Bifrost and the Destroyer were roughly on the same level. The Bifrost might even have been stronger.
And it was protected by the divine power of all Asgard.
There was no need to mention the strength of Ragnaros the Firelord. When the ancient Fire Elemental Lord flew into a rage, he too possessed world-destroying power. He could casually turn flat ground into a mountain of flames, no weaker than Surtur at his peak.
Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros had been forged from exceptionally precious Saronite, Arcanite, and Black Iron, fused with the Eye of Sulfuras, which represented a portion of the authority of the fire element. Whether in material or hardness, it was comparable to Thor’s Hammer.
Even if Hulk stood before it, one blow could send him flying.
Yet it still could not shatter the Bifrost.
Thor could not do it either. Loki was even less capable.
Whether in divine power or strength, he was far inferior to Thor. Odin had also reclaimed Gungnir’s authority, leaving his abilities limited.
As the Allfather’s weapon, Gungnir possessed boundless might. In Odin’s hands, destroying stars was not particularly difficult. But in Loki’s hands, with all its authority reclaimed, he could not unleash even one-thousandth or one-ten-thousandth of its power.
By all reason, even if he stabbed it a hundred or a thousand times, he should not have been able to damage the Bifrost.
The problem was…
About three minutes earlier, Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros had already smashed the Bifrost nearly to pieces, covering it in cracks and sending fragments flying everywhere.
It was only a hair away from destruction and could not withstand even a single stab.
Loki’s feeble thrust was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
"No!"
The instant Loki drove it in with all his strength, Thor flew toward him with Thor’s Hammer in hand.
But just as Thor reached Loki, Gungnir had already pierced completely through the Bifrost.
Boom!
The violent explosion unleashed a destructive storm on the scale of a cosmic catastrophe.
Before anyone could react, the entire temple and half the Bifrost fell.
Below them lay a deep, unknowable void. Within it raged endless storms and spatial vortices formed by collapsing energy. A force of suction far greater than any void rift continuously devoured everything.
Including Old Wang and Heimdall.
Beneath the temple was the entrance to the World Tree, a spatial passage connecting the entire universe.
Space and time were inherently the most mysterious and exalted powers in the universe. No one knew how many wormholes were hidden within the World Tree, which spanned countless light-years to connect the Nine Realms. Every wormhole was equivalent to an intergalactic teleportation gate and contained immeasurable energy.
The Bifrost itself had also condensed energy surpassing even Odin’s.
Part of that energy erupted in an instant when the bridge broke. Its output each second even exceeded the total energy used in the previous minute-long attack on Jotunheim.
The energy, enough to destroy planets, obliterated an unknown number of wormholes in the vast void.
As those wormholes were destroyed, they began to collapse. The force of that collapse devoured everything like black holes.
The Bifrost itself had the power to open wormholes for teleportation, and now that so many wormholes had opened at once, the resulting suction was impossible for anyone to resist.
The terrifying energy vortex was ten or even a hundred times more frightening than Azeroth’s Maelstrom. The turbulent energy currents made all magic fragile and useless.
Under these circumstances,
Loki could not cast spells,
Thor could not fly,
Heimdall could not mobilize any divine power,
and even Old Wang had no time to exchange for any spells. Even if he had, it would have been useless.
Even Medivh would not have been able to cast normally under such circumstances.
Old Wang, Heimdall, Thor, Loki.
Everyone was falling.
Falling toward countless wormholes.
Facing upward, Loki laughed madly as he fell.
The Bifrost had never broken before. No one knew what kind of disaster this would cause, but he was happy to bring disaster upon this place of sorrow.
Though he did not know whether he would die here, even if he did, three people would be buried with him. One of them was even his dear brother.
That was enough!
"I’ve got you!"
Thor did not care whether he was falling. He only cared about his brother.
No matter how bad or infuriating this brother was, he was still his brother.
Though different blood flowed through their veins, no one could replace the bond they had built over a thousand years. Ordinary people could not understand such feelings.
He barely adjusted his posture, grabbed Gungnir in Loki’s hand, clutched the spearhead tightly, and shouted:
"Loki, don’t let go!"
Because they were at the end of the Bifrost and suffering an even more terrifying energy impact, Old Wang and Heimdall were instead flung higher at first and began falling later.
Heimdall suddenly unleashed all his divine power, shifting his position within the energy storm. He extended the divine sword in his hand toward Thor. "Grab me!"
Thor hurriedly grabbed it.
The immense suction forced him to use all his strength. The sharp blade cut open his palm, and copious blood flowed down his arm onto his body, then down his other arm onto Gungnir, eventually reaching Loki’s hand.
"What a damn brat!" Old Wang sighed.
He was willing to swear before the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother of the West that he had truly never intended to destroy the Bifrost. He had only wanted to scare Loki.
Sure, I made all those cracks in the Bifrost, but it could still have been repaired, right?
And now?
Loki had actually destroyed the Bifrost!
I definitely wasn’t responsible for that final blow!
Odin, please don’t blame me!
Old Wang, who knew the plot, was well aware that even if they let go and fell, they would most likely be fine. They would merely be sent somewhere else in the universe.
With his constitution, he could survive even if he fell into a vacuum, the Earth’s core, or even onto the surface of the sun. As long as he was not thrown into the sun’s core, there would be no problem.
But the problem was…
When would he ever get back?
"You really know how to cause trouble!"
Old Wang was helpless, but fortunately, I have a backup plan.
He did not even need to say anything.
The instant the Bifrost was destroyed, the Crimson Magic Belt unfurled from his waist.
The strip of cloth, originally less than two meters long, stretched to over a thousand meters in an instant.
One end was tied around Old Wang’s waist, while the other somehow broke through the chaotic energy currents and the suction of collapsing wormholes, fastening itself to the Bifrost.
"Heimdall, get over here!"
Old Wang shouted and lashed out with the Cloud Grasping Whip.
The True Qi whip wrapped around Heimdall’s wrist—the hand not holding the sword.
"Little Red, pull!"
Upon hearing its master’s command, the Crimson Magic Belt immediately contracted.
As the Bifrost drew closer and closer, Old Wang finally breathed a sigh of relief.
What a mess…
Odin, it really wasn’t my fault!
Heimdall sighed in relief. Odin, who had been preparing to open his eyes, also sighed in relief.
Good, good. There was no need to awaken early and shorten his lifespan. Thor and Loki had both been saved as well.
As for the Bifrost?
Didn’t I throw the Cosmic Cube into Midgard back then?
"Loki, we’re safe."
Thor lowered his head to look at his brother.
Then his expression changed drastically.
Loki had let go!
