Tongue-ripping Hell, Scissors Hell
The first of the Eighteen Levels of Hell was called Tongue-ripping Hell. Those who, while alive, sowed discord, slandered and harmed others, spoke glibly, argued deceptively, or lied to cheat people would be sent to Tongue-ripping Hell after death. Little ghosts would pry open their mouths, clamp their tongues with iron pincers, and forcibly pull them out—not in one swift yank, but by stretching them out and slowly tearing them free. Afterward, they would enter Scissors Hell and Iron Tree Hell.
The three thousand Silver Dragons watched the scene before them and all felt a phantom pain.
Inside the first level of hell, countless people were suspended in the air. They were not hung by ropes, but by pincers clamped onto their tongues. Little ghosts prowled nearby, occasionally lashing their backs with whips.
The entire hell was filled with muffled groans of agony. They wanted to scream, but they could not. Their tongues were all suspended, so they could only moan.
The little ghosts quickly noticed the Silver Dragon Army. A fat man immediately came forward and looked at them. "Who are you people?"
Su Yu paid him no attention and simply waved his hand. "Attack! Since the Netherworld dragged our brothers into a place like this, there is no need for us to be polite!"
"Kill!" Cang Nan shouted, taking the lead.
The fat man, who was the Judge of the first level of the Netherworld, immediately sensed a wave of killing intent sweeping toward him. Terrified, he hurriedly shouted, "Quick, get them! They’re here to cause trouble!"
After saying that, the fat man immediately hid behind the little ghosts. The little ghosts charged forward at his command, but these executioner ghosts were only Celestial Beings. In moments, they were slaughtered to the last by the Silver Dragon warriors.
When the Judge of the first level saw his little ghosts wiped out in mere minutes, he immediately came before Su Yu, weeping and sniveling. He dropped to his knees with a thud. "Immortal, spare my life! I failed to recognize your greatness. I would never dare offend someone as exalted as you!"
Su Yu crouched down and patted the fat man’s face. "Fatty, tell me, how did a Golden Immortal like you become the Judge of the first level of hell? Isn’t a Great Luo True Immortal the minimum requirement for a Judge?"
The fat man replied weakly, "My father is King Song Emperor, King Yama of the Third Hall…"
Su Yu gave an understanding "Oh." "Oh, I get it. You’re a nepotism hire, huh?"
As he spoke, Su Yu stood and looked into the distance. "Cang Nan, kill this nepotism hire. I hate nepotism hires more than anything. The rest of you, free those suffering souls."
Cang Nan clasped his fists. "This subordinate accepts the order!"
The fat man immediately cried out, "Immortal, please don’t! I’m not a nepotism hire! I became a Judge through my own ability!"
Without another word, Cang Nan swung his spear and severed the fat man’s head.
Su Yu was speechless. You were a Golden Immortal with the strength of an ordinary immortal soldier. What ability did you have?
Before long, every ghostly soul in the first level of hell had been released by the Silver Dragon Army. All of them knelt before Su Yu and the others, weeping bitterly as they kowtowed in gratitude. "Uh… uh… uh…"
Perhaps it was because they had not spoken for too many years, or perhaps their tongues had not yet healed. All they could utter were incoherent sounds, but Su Yu and the others knew they were saying thank you.
Cang Nan looked at them and sighed. "These people are truly pitiful."
Su Yu nodded slightly. "These Eighteen Levels of Hell are truly cruel. The first level carries a sentence of five hundred years; the second, one thousand years; the third, three thousand years; the fourth, five thousand years; the fifth, seven thousand years; the sixth, nine thousand years; the seventh, ten thousand years; the eighth, fifteen thousand years; the ninth, twenty thousand years; the tenth, twenty-five thousand years; the eleventh, thirty thousand years; the twelfth, thirty-five thousand years; the fourteenth, forty thousand years; the fifteenth, forty-five thousand years; the sixteenth, fifty thousand years; the seventeenth, seventy thousand years; and the eighteenth, one hundred thousand years!"
Cang Nan and the others were stunned. Cang Nan said in disbelief, "How could the sentences be so long? Isn’t the Netherworld afraid that their relatives and friends will come here to make trouble?"
Su Yu chuckled. "I’m not done yet. These sentences and punishments only apply to mortals and Mortal Realm cultivators! People from Taoism and Buddhism do not suffer these punishments. When they commit crimes, they stay in the ancient cities on the fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth levels."
"The ancient cities were specially built for the souls of Taoism and Buddhism. Aside from it always being nighttime, they were no different from the great cities outside. They lived carefree lives every day. The only downside was that they could only move within the ancient cities. This is fucking nepotism…"
Cang Nan and the others clenched their fists. They had known nothing of these matters. They truly had not expected the Netherworld to be such a brutal place. If your status was low, you had to accept punishment for committing crimes. If your status was high, nothing happened to you, and you could still live without a care in the world!
Cang Nan clasped his fists. "Please give the order, General. Allow me to flatten these Eighteen Levels of Hell! A place this cruel has no right to exist!"
A smile tugged at Su Yu’s lips. "That was exactly my intention."
The group headed deeper into the first level of hell. Before long, they saw an altar identical to the one outside. They stepped onto it, then gradually left the first level of hell.
The second level of hell was called Scissors Hell. If, in the mortal world, a woman’s husband died prematurely and she became a widow, then anyone who encouraged her to remarry or acted as a matchmaker for her would be sent to Scissors Hell after death, where all ten fingers would be cut off!
When the group arrived at the second level of hell, they looked around and saw that most of the prisoners were women in their forties or fifties. Su Yu gave a bitter smile. "I knew it would be like this…"
In Scissors Hell, everyone who came here had all ten fingers cut off. Yet they had to remain here for a thousand years, so it was impossible for the punishment to end after merely cutting off their fingers once.
Ghostly souls healed quickly after being injured. Once their fingers were cut off, they would grow back within three days. In other words, each of them had to endure punishment once every three days. This suffering had long since numbed them.
The appearance of the Silver Dragon Army drew the little ghosts’ attention. Soon, the Judge of the second level came before Su Yu and the others and asked, "Who are you? Without a Wuchang to guide you, how did you get here?"
As he spoke, the Judge narrowed his eyes. He vaguely sensed that these visitors had come with ill intent.
Su Yu smiled faintly. "No more nonsense. Cang Nan, lead the men and kill your way down."
"Yes!"
Cang Nan clasped his fists in acknowledgment, then swept his spear at the Judge. The Judge of the second level’s pupils contracted as he hurriedly retreated. The little ghosts immediately rushed forward, and the Silver Dragon Army charged into battle as well.
Just like in the first level of hell, these little ghosts were completely overwhelmed. They were truly weak—even weaker than the immortal soldiers guarding Heavenly Court’s gates.
