True and False S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents

Dozens of people, covered in dust and bearing marks of torture on their faces, looking like they had suffered immensely, burst through the doors from the passage on the right.

They ran headlong into Lake’s main force.

Lake froze instantly.

Those in the military base’s operations center, watching through the remote cameras on the soldiers’ helmets, also froze.

General Ross and General Moses quickly regained their composure, turning to look at the S.H.I.E.L.D. trio who had entered not long before.

Click!

Several soldiers, seeing this, immediately aimed their weapons at Alexander Pierce, Nick Fury, and Phil Coulson.

The reason?

Who was at the very front of the giant screen?

Alexander Pierce, his face grimy, looked at the main force and said with a relaxed expression, "I am Alexander Pierce, Director of the Homeland Strategic Defense Attack and Logistics Support Bureau. I wish to speak with your superior."

Yes.

Another Alexander Pierce had appeared here?

Beside him.

Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, Maria Hill… Natasha Romanov.

Good heavens.

Was this some kind of elaborate deception?

Like the real and fake Monkey Kings?

Lake exclaimed inwardly, then, with a blank expression, pushed aside the soldier in front of him and stepped forward. "I am. You say you’re Alexander Pierce?"

"Yes,"

Alexander Pierce replied. "During an operation four years ago, we were captured by Hydra and imprisoned here. These people behind me were all captured and brought here gradually over the years."

Lake’s brow twitched.

In the military base’s operations center, Alexander Pierce’s mood was no better than Lake’s. Looking at the soldiers pointing their guns at him with wary expressions, he quickly said to General Moses, "Moses, you know me."

Just then.

Alexander Pierce from the clone base also spoke up. "You can call Pennsylvania Avenue, or speak with General Moses. He can vouch for me."

Damn it!

The real Alexander Pierce wanted nothing more than to flay Daniel Whitehall alive upon hearing this.

So…

I didn’t intend to make a move on you, but you’ve wanted to get rid of me for years?

What happened to trust?

I even felt guilty before making my decision, thinking I was wronging you. Now, screw you. I only wanted your life, but you’re planning to take care of me as well.

Nick Fury and Phil Coulson beside him were also stunned seeing themselves on the giant screen.

Who am I?

No…

Am I me, or a clone?

Nick Fury’s face darkened. At this moment, he had completely lost any desire to study cloning technology. None at all. After all, when the consequences don’t affect you directly, you don’t feel the pain. But now, this consequence had directly hit him. Undoubtedly, it hurt. Moreover, if he couldn’t explain this clearly, he would likely be labeled a clone.

Moses and Ross exchanged a glance and looked at Alexander Pierce. "You claim to be the real one. Do you have proof?"

Alexander Pierce rolled up his sleeve, revealing a scar on his right hand. "Look, this is from when we fought together. I got it protecting you."

Moses nodded.

The next second.

Alexander Pierce from the clone base also rolled up his sleeve, revealing an identical scar. "This is from a mission I undertook with General Moses."

You son of a—

The real Alexander almost spat out a mouthful of blood. "He’s fake."

How did Daniel Whitehall get his memories?

This was impossible.

Alexander Pierce couldn’t understand how Daniel Whitehall could obtain the genetic samples of everyone in S.H.I.E.L.D., but how could he obtain their memory samples?

Just then.

Alexander Pierce’s eyes narrowed as he seemed to recall something.

Damn Arnim Zola.

In the 1990s, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Science Academy successfully developed a memory inducer, which could directly access memories without interrogation. Coincidentally, Hydra had also developed cloning technology around that time. Hydra was still quite united back then, so…

Alexander Pierce had also gone up to try it, but he had already had Dr. Zola secretly destroy his memories.

However, he never expected something like this to happen today.

Huh.

Wait a minute.

Alexander Pierce’s mind raced. This seemed like an opportunity. If Daniel Whitehall hadn’t cloned him, and then this situation arose today with several S.H.I.E.L.D. executives present, but he himself was absent, wouldn’t that suggest he was highly suspicious?

So…

Do I have to thank Daniel Whitehall for this?

Alexander Pierce thought this, and instantly, his face turned as dark as Nick Fury’s next to him.

Lake’s feelings were very complicated at the moment.

How should he put it?

When he came to attack this place, he intended to vent all his anger, but unexpectedly, a "Monkey King" scenario, with true and false versions, was suddenly playing out before his eyes.

He wanted to laugh.

But…

Lake couldn’t bring himself to laugh. This version of Hydra, his intelligence was clearly online, and even surpassed many. For instance, right now, Lake wasn’t sure which version of Alexander Pierce was the genuine article.

How could he play this game?

The most important point.

Lake’s gaze swept over the more than thirty S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel. He was very sure that the people from the clone base were hiding among them.

The others in the base could be silenced.

As long as he insisted he was also captured, he could undoubtedly get away with it.

"Base!"

Lake directly threw the problem to the base: "What do we do now?"

General Moses and General Ross exchanged glances upon hearing this.

What to do?

How would they know?

Lake raised an eyebrow and suggested, "How about we just kill them all? Who cares if they’re real or fake? If the one outside is fake, we can run a test to see if we can detect if they’re a clone?"

Alexander Pierce: "I agree / I disagree!"

Lake: "…"

Alexander Pierce in the military base said in a deep voice, "Moses, I agree with this. Whatever test you want to run, I will fully cooperate."

Alexander Pierce in the clone base looked at Lake: "Director Edwin, you mean there’s another me outside?"

Lake thought for a moment and nodded, then looked at the group of S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel in front of him: "Yes, not just you, but Nick Fury and Ms. Maria Hill next to you are also outside."

This plot twist was enough to break a back.

Lake’s anger had completely vanished. All that remained was curiosity and amusement, and he was already unconsciously starting to speculate about who was real and who was fake.

Damn it.

I came here to kill people, how did it inexplicably turn into a "Guess Who’s Real" game?

"I am real."

"The one outside says the same thing."

Lake stroked his chin and said calmly to Alexander, who had spoken to him like this, then asked the base, "Base, what do we do now? I don’t know if these people are real or fake, but I’m certain the person in charge of the clone base is among them. I lean towards killing them all. Even if the one outside is fake, I’ll accept it. At worst, I’ll mention it to Mr. President and have S.H.I.E.L.D. disbanded."

Alexander Pierce and Nick Fury in the military base turned green upon hearing this: "Absolutely not!"

Nick Fury’s eyes suddenly lit up: "Mr. Edwin, if that clone also has my memories, then it definitely wouldn’t have memories from 2002. We tried to recruit you back then, remember?"

Lake chuckled: "How could I forget? That’s why I suggest disbanding S.H.I.E.L.D. directly."

Nick Fury said, "Exactly, these clones definitely wouldn’t have recent memories."

Lake raised an eyebrow.

The Nick Fury in front of him said in a deep voice, "Director Alexander Pierce and I were captured and imprisoned here four years ago. How could we have memories from these four years? If they do, then they must be impostors."

What the hell…

Nick Fury opened his mouth and exchanged a glance with Alexander Pierce next to him.

How could this possibly be played out?

The situation had reached a stalemate.

Soon.

The various teams responsible for clearing out the underground base sent back safe responses. At the same time, they found numerous destroyed clones, especially in the living quarters.

They also found the bodies of other Nick Furys and Alexander Pierces inside.

The scene was originally quite horrifying.

But…

With the sudden appearance of this "Monkey King with true and false identities" drama, it seemed to have instantly erased that sense of horror.

After a while.

Seeing that the base hadn’t come up with any good solutions, Lake spoke again, "General, how about we do it my way? Better to kill the wrong person than let the guilty one go."

Someone had to be held responsible for the attack on him today.

Trying to sneak away hidden in the crowd was just wishful thinking.

General Ross saw this and directly said to Lake, "Wait, don’t act."

Lake wanted to end it all and kill first, but Ross and Moses were definitely thinking more about it. After all, Lake could ignore the bigger picture and do whatever felt good, but they two certainly couldn’t.

Lake shrugged, looking at the S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel surrounded by soldiers with guns, and raised an eyebrow.

The next second.

The Glock in Lake’s right hand was immediately raised, aimed at Alexander Pierce.

The latter was slightly taken aback.

However…

Before Alexander Pierce could react, Lake moved the Glock pistol in his right hand to Nick Fury’s head next to him.

He was using his own method to find the person hidden within.

When one’s Force cultivation reaches a certain level, they can directly see through the target’s thoughts. Lake’s Force Seed was still floating in his sea of consciousness, and he couldn’t reach that level yet.

But he could sense the emotions of the target through his Force.

Lake was certain…

The person hidden among them definitely harbored fear and dread.
