#274
Unexpected Gain: A Calico Cosmic Beast
Life was always full of surprises.
For example, getting a gorgeous, golden adult daughter for free.
Given Ayesha’s cluelessness and near-idiotic state, Allen naturally established their father-daughter relationship.
"Wait, Daddy will get you dressed."
Having just emerged from the solution, Ayesha was completely naked. He couldn’t exactly take her around like that.
In High Evolutionary’s eyes, there was no nonsense between men and women. He merely saw her as an experimental subject.
Beastfolk only had aesthetic interest in their own kind.
On the contrary, they found humans without thick fur strange and disgusting, like creatures that had been skinned alive.
That was precisely why, in beastfolk society, thicker fur symbolized higher status.
Allen took off his lab coat and dressed Ayesha in the blue-and-white patient gown underneath.
"Daddy, do I look good?"
After putting on the patient gown, Ayesha happily spun in a circle, looking just like a mental patient.
Allen even gave her his beloved blue rubber slippers. He himself wore only a pair of underwear beneath his lab coat, with his two hairy legs exposed, looking exactly like a pervert in a trench coat.
"Very good."
Praise from her father.
As for why Allen wasn’t wearing patient pants, and why he was even wearing underwear at all, it was because he had changed before transmigrating.
Now, there was no equipment stored in his armpits or butt crack, so he didn’t need clothes to conceal anything.
The Blade of Redemption had been sold to the Collector.
The Butcher Knife had been given to Vision as a vessel.
The only piece of equipment he had left, the Sinestro Corps Ring, was worn somewhere indescribable.
"Are you with the Rebel Army?"
The Rebel Army had made such huge moves in a single day that Kevina couldn’t possibly have ignored them.
Attacking the sweatshops alone was enough to throw beastfolk society into turmoil.
But she couldn’t understand why they had attacked the High-tech Center.
"I’m an alien. I’m rescuing my teammates."
Allen explained the reason truthfully.
He didn’t hide any details, including the capture of the satellite military base.
Kevina found it utterly unbelievable.
It felt as unreal as a stranger one day telling you that your entire life had been a lie.
"How do you explain this, then?"
Allen pointed at Ayesha, who was clutching his clothes.
A golden intelligent life-form like her could never be native to the World of the High Evolutionary.
Moreover, Kevina had been undercover in the High-tech Center for a long time and had seen countless strange experimental subjects.
At first, she had assumed they were products of the company’s cloning research. But upon thinking it over carefully now, there seemed to be many inconsistencies.
"I don’t know."
The truth was too outrageous, leaving Kevina conflicted.
After all, she had been taught since childhood that beastfolk had evolved naturally through survival of the fittest. It was difficult for her to accept that they were experimental products.
"I’ll prove it to you."
All Allen had to do was defeat the High Evolutionary, and the truth would be revealed to the public.
However, rescuing his teammates was the current priority.
This was where Kevina’s value came in.
Having infiltrated the place for so long, she naturally knew where the experimental subjects were being held.
The three of them sneaked toward the experimental subject warehouse. Whenever they encountered beastfolk scientists along the way, they knocked them out and casually stuffed them into storage rooms or bathrooms.
Kevina raised a hand, and the three stopped at a corner.
"Past the corner are the experimental subject cells. Two soldiers are guarding the entrance. I think one of us should lure them away…"
When she turned around, she suddenly found Ayesha tilting her head and staring at her with a blank expression, clearly unable to understand what she meant.
Bang! Bang!
Kevina poked her head out to look.
Allen had already embedded the two beastfolk in exoskeleton armor into the wall. He beckoned and said, "Hurry up and follow me."
"Coming, Daddy."
Ayesha ran over happily, like a little tail tugging at Allen’s clothes.
"How did you do that?"
Kevina looked at the soldiers, half their bodies embedded in the wall, dead or alive unknown, and was utterly shocked.
How could such a thick concrete wall be pierced so easily?
Even exoskeleton armor couldn’t accomplish that.
"My ex-girlfriend and current girlfriend are both pretty temperamental."
Allen raised his hands and comforted them. "Sorry."
"Huh?"
Kevina’s mouth twitched. She had no idea what was going on.
"I wasn’t talking to you."
Allen said guiltily, "Little Left, Little Right, I haven’t let you come out in a long time. You must be angry. Once this is over, I’ll make it up to you tonight."
"…"
So his ex and current girlfriend were his hands. Self-reliance was truly the name of the game.
'Beep. Insufficient access. Please contact a supervisor-level employee.'After swiping the access card, Kevina said awkwardly, "I’m an ordinary employee. I don’t have the authorization."
"I’ll do it."
'Beep. Access granted. Welcome, Chief Scientist Lord Gunan.'Allen explained sheepishly, "Tsk… so I robbed some big shot."
The alloy gate opened.
Before them were rows of cells holding experimental subjects, at least several hundred of them. Even more animals were kept in iron cages.
The High Evolutionary probably couldn’t explain where all of them had come from.
Most creatures with research value couldn’t necessarily be purchased through legitimate channels.
Thus, he hired bounty hunters to poach them. Kidnapping intelligent life-forms, meanwhile, was strictly forbidden among the Ravager Crew.
In the future, Yondu would descend upon Earth and abduct the young Star-Lord. As a result, he would be despised by many Ravager Crews and could only recruit bounty hunters with terrible records, risking a collective mutiny at the slightest misstep.
"A-Du."
"Kelp."
"Uncle Da."
"Frank."
"Purple Yam."
"…"
Allen searched for his teammates while calling out their names.
Then he stopped, took a step back, and looked at the creature locked in an iron cage. Surprised, he said, "Calico!?"
That was right. A calico cat wearing a mask was curled up in the cage.
After checking again and again, it really was the Calico who would stay by his side in the future.
Allen snapped the iron lock apart with his bare hands, picked up Calico, and removed the mask restraining its head. Suddenly enlightened, he said, "So we already knew each other. No wonder you shamelessly rubbed against my leg when we met in the future."
"Meow…"
Beep beep beep beep…
In an instant, alarms echoed through the warehouse. Flashing red lights signaled danger.
"Daddy, I didn’t mean to."
Ayesha hurried over and explained with a guilty expression, "I was just curious and pressed a red button."
It was already too late.
The cell doors holding the experimental subjects unlocked at the same time.
"The High Evolutionary must have something wrong with his brain. Why install a mass-unlock button? That’s obviously a terribly unreasonable design."
Naturally, there was no time to worry about that.
After making a rough sweep of the place, Allen found no trace of his teammates, so he took Ayesha and Kevina out of the warehouse.
The freed experimental subjects tried to attack them to vent their anger.
After Allen gave them a lesson through the righteous reasoning of his fists and feet, they no longer had any improper thoughts.
The main reason was that the beastfolk scientists had experimented on them, causing the experimental subjects to hate beastfolk.
