Werewolves

"All right, rookies! I’ve said everything I needed to say. You have a little time left for questions. Once the sun comes up, we’ll split up and complete our own missions."

Gu Sheng drained the hot water in the worn clay bowl in one gulp. When he noticed the words indicating that the guidance mission had been completed in his consciousness space, he was delighted.

He truly had no interest in leading newcomers around. This instance was entered through a Designation Card. Once he completed a few side missions and obtained what he wanted, he planned to return ahead of schedule and properly prepare for the next world.

"Wait, Senior, aren’t we supposed to complete this mission together?"

A young man who looked rather roguish stepped forward. After hearing Gu Sheng’s general introduction to this world, the ordinary people from the real world had all made their own assessments. They knew that relying on themselves alone would almost certainly end badly.

Gu Sheng poked at the fire and said impatiently, "I have no interest in leading newcomers. Your missions have nothing to do with me either. Lord God Space has its own set of laws, which are different from those of the real world."

"Then, Senior, may I ask what the laws of Lord God Space are~~"

Qi Lingyun, who had been the first to wake up, spoke. He could sense the indifference these two people felt toward them, the trainees—an indifference toward life itself.

"Laws? The law of the jungle and the like. And then there’s equivalent exchange!"

Gu Sheng thought for a moment before answering. He glanced at the horizon. The black curtain was already visibly fading. In another three or four hours, the sun would rise, and traveling would be safer then.

The Werewolves and vampires in this world were all nocturnal creatures. More precisely, the direct descendants of the Werewolf Progenitor William Corvinus could not control their bestial nature. Following their instinct to hunt beneath the moon, they rarely came out during the day.

The descendants of the intelligent Werewolf Progenitor Lucian, however, could move around in broad daylight just like humans. Unfortunately, they were still slaves of the vampires and could not come out to act freely.

"Equivalent exchange? Then, Senior, we~~"

Qi Lingyun thought about it before speaking, but he had barely gotten the words out when Gu Sheng raised his hand and cut him off. "Hey! Stop right there. Don’t talk to me about exchanging anything.

"You can’t give me what I want. At least, you can’t give it to me now. In fact, among the other Reincarnators, there might not even be anyone who can make an equivalent exchange with me."

Putting aside Gu Sheng, a bug-like figure with both a system and foreknowledge, the strongest among the Reincarnators were undoubtedly the Chosen Ones ranked in the top hundred.

Among the Chosen Ones, the few strongest individuals known at present had already reached the Third Star Level. Yet even those few Third Star Level experts were no match for Gu Sheng. Starting from the Third Star Level, the gap between each minor stage within every star level was enormous.

To give a simple example, a Third Star Level Reincarnator would be equivalent to a first-rate martial artist in The Nine Cauldrons World.

In the Black Armor Army of The Nine Cauldrons’ Yangzhou’s Jiangning Prefecture, commanders, deputy commanders, and centurions were all first-rate martial artists. Yet the differences between them were obvious. A commander could completely crush a centurion in an instant.

Even a Black Armor Army commander would be instantly killed when facing an Earth Ranking expert. Thus, the gap within the first-rate realm was also enormous. As for Reincarnators, the gap between different stages of the same star level was even greater.

Gu Sheng was currently at the Fourth Star Mid-Rank. With the Bronze Mirror Mystic Item, spells, his pet Jade Azure Serpent, and the rest of his advantages included, he would not fear even an opponent at the Fourth Star High Grade or peak. Most Reincarnators were not even qualified to be served up as his food.

"Awwooo~~"

Gu Sheng’s attitude made the newcomers uneasy. Just as they were at a loss, waves of wolf howls approached from far away.

"Damn it."

Gu Sheng thrust the stick he had been using to stir the bonfire into the flames, then dusted himself off and stood. "All of you, come over here and light the fires. If you’re too slow, I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to protect you in the dead of night."

Although he did not really want to manage these newcomers, he could not watch them be wiped out right in front of him. After all, the fact that they had been thrown together had something to do with him, to some extent.

"All right, all right~~"

Qi Lingyun and the roguish young man who had spoken first hurriedly stood up. The others moved as well. Everyone understood how dangerous it was to be pursued by hungry wolves in the pitch-black night.

"Damn Lord God. It just won’t let me rest!"

Gu Sheng cursed inwardly in exasperation. Although he put on an appearance of cold-blooded indifference, as though he cared about nothing, he truly could not stand by and watch people from the same place die in front of him.

Of course, these people had no conflicts of interest with him and were innocent weaklings. Besides, he was strong enough that protecting them was effortless. That was why he was willing to intervene.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

One bonfire after another sprang up, and the entire road was illuminated by waves of scorching firelight.

"Three little puppies, and you dare come looking for trouble with me?"

Seeing the three werewolves howling at him from the hill ahead, Gu Sheng snorted unhappily. If he had not yet completed his ability conversion, how could he have been targeted by several crazed, blood-mad Werewolves of only the Second Star Level?

Gu Sheng turned his head and instructed them, "All of you, hide inside the ring of fire. It’s fine if it gets hot, but be extremely careful not to get bitten by the werewolves. These werewolves have lost their minds. If you’re infected and develop their bloodline, I don’t know whether Lord God has the ability to eliminate the effects."

The newcomers moved with remarkable efficiency, all hiding inside the ring of fire. Liu Daimei, meanwhile, stood outside the ring and observed the surroundings. As a vampire, she disliked things that were too hot.

"Awwooo~~"

The werewolves atop the hill emitted a blue glow from their eyes. The blazing bonfires instead gave them clear targets. After howling, they charged toward the ring of fire on all fours.

"You’re courting death."

A trace of anger at being offended flashed through Gu Sheng’s eyes. Someone actually dared to bare their fangs at him. Strictly speaking, these werewolves who could no longer transform back into human form were still human, only as if they had contracted rabies.

Gu Sheng had reason to suspect that the starving wolf that had bitten William Corvinus might have carried a virus similar to rabies. Otherwise, there was no way to explain why Marcus Corvinus, who had likewise been bitten by a bat, had not lost his sanity.

"Thump!"

Gu Sheng charged forward, taking three steps in the time it took another person to take two. When he was only ten meters from the oncoming werewolves, he planted his right foot, launched himself into the air, raised his right hand, and smashed down with his fist.

"Bang!"

The lead Alpha Wolf had its head blown apart by Gu Sheng. Flying bone fragments and debris splattered across the faces of the other two werewolves behind it. Before they could bare their fangs again, a heavy blow suddenly struck above their weak waists. Pain shot through their sides, their lower bodies instantly went numb, and their legs buckled as they slid to the ground.

"Awoo—!"

The two werewolves only had time to let out a mournful cry before their tails fell into Gu Sheng’s hands. Gripping them tightly, he suddenly swung them together and smashed them against each other.
