World Destroyer
Perhaps because his previous suggestion had worked, Peter had not received any more bad news these past few days. Although Uncle Ben and the others were still under investigation, Peter believed that S.H.I.E.L.D. would never wrong an innocent person.
That day, Peter came to S.H.I.E.L.D. again. After seeing him enter, Director Garrett handed him a tablet and said, "Peter, there’s a mission for you."
"S.H.I.E.L.D. has quite a few superpowered criminals. But recently, our internal investigation has left us short-handed, allowing some criminals to take advantage of the situation. They broke into one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s prisons for superpowered individuals and released the supervillains inside."
Peter carefully watched the video on the tablet. The footage was exceptionally clear. Clearly, the people who had broken into the prison did not care in the slightest about being caught on camera.
The leader was a white man with slightly graying hair. He was not a Magnetic Field Warrior, and although he seemed fairly strong, he had no real combat skills.
Director Garrett continued, "The man in charge is named Carl Johnson. We have reason to believe that they want to gather a group of supervillains and pull off something big."
"You experienced the alien invasion some time ago as well. Although our proper response and timely action prevented any major damage, more than a hundred thousand people still died in New York. And the culprit who opened the portal and brought the aliens in, the woman named Skye, is still wanted and remains at large."
"And we only recently discovered that Carl Johnson is the father of that woman named Skye."
Peter drew a sharp breath and looked up at Director Garrett.
"That’s right, Peter. Just as you thought, if this matter isn’t handled properly, there could very well be a second alien invasion."
"So, find these people and bring them back. Especially their leader, Carl Johnson. He must be brought back alive. We may be able to find out where Skye is from him."
"I understand, Director. Don’t worry, leave it to me. I’ll deal with them." After realizing how serious the matter was, Peter immediately decided to accept the mission.
After Peter left, Director Garrett picked up the phone. "Everything has been arranged. Once you capture that little girl, remember to bring me what I need in exchange."
"Heh heh…" The person on the other end laughed. "John, you should know that the technology for immortality doesn’t come cheap."
"Daniel, I know. Your ‘World Destroyer’ plan is only missing a suitable host body, and you’ve been pursuing that girl named Skye for years. Don’t tell me it has nothing to do with your plan. The price of a product has never depended on its value, but on the buyer’s needs."
The person on the other end was silent for a moment before saying, "I’ll give this deal serious consideration, but before that, you at least need to get the person first. If I recruit her before you do, all your efforts will have been wasted."
"You don’t need to worry about that. The only reason we failed to capture Skye before was that she was under Zhan Liu’s protection. But Zhan Liu doesn’t seem to care much about her. There’s nothing standing in our way now."
"Then I’ll await your good news."
After hanging up, Director Garrett stood and headed for the Science Division.
Shuri was working in the Science Division. With Fitz and Simmons’s help, she was trying to convert the White Panther Armor, which was based on Vibranium technology, into Strong Magnetic Armor built on ordinary technological foundations.
Ever since the Sentinel Robots had been effortlessly defeated in front of Magneto, everyone had realized that unless the armor could generate its own energy aura and withstand the Matter Reconstruction ability of powerful Magnetic Field Warriors, even the hardest metal was meaningless.
From this perspective, whether Vibranium or True Adamantium Alloy, both were no different from ordinary metals before a Magnetic Field Warrior capable of Matter Reconstruction.
Therefore, because of the limitations of material availability, Vibranium Magnetic Armor was less suitable for S.H.I.E.L.D. than Strong Magnetic Armor.
"Geniuses of the Science Division, do you have any good news that can cheer me up?" Director Garrett appeared in front of Fitz and the others with a broad smile.
It had to be said that when Hydra recruited useful talent, its sincerity and attentiveness far surpassed S.H.I.E.L.D.’s. These three highly intelligent but socially awkward young geniuses in the Science Division all had an excellent impression of the S.H.I.E.L.D. director.
"We’ve already mastered the basic Vibranium technology, and we’re now working hard to study the more advanced techniques. The same goes for Shuri. With her current knowledge of physics, she could probably earn two or three doctoral degrees." Simmons smiled as she bragged to the amiable director.
"All right, that’s excellent news. So, how is the armor conversion based on modern technology going?"
"The initial progress has been very smooth. We’ve already converted it to the Fifty Heavens level, but the difficulty rises sharply after that. There are many techniques we haven’t learned yet."
After Fitz finished speaking, he exchanged a glance with Simmons before explaining, "As for making the armor generate an energy shield automatically, we have no leads at all. We simply can’t find an energy source powerful enough."
Director Garrett frowned slightly. "Then produce a Fifty Heavens-level suit of armor first. We may have a mission requiring it soon."
In fact, after paying a sufficient price, S.H.I.E.L.D. could obtain the technology for the Sentinel Model 3 Magnetic Field Rotation Robot from the military. If Fitz and the others could use it as a reference, it would certainly greatly improve their research efficiency.
The problem was that S.H.I.E.L.D.’s interference in the United States presidential election had severely damaged its relationship with the military. After President Rogers took office, in particular, the military’s interests in the new government were greatly affected, further intensifying the conflict between both sides.
At present, S.H.I.E.L.D. and the military had essentially fallen out, making the deal impossible. The military would rather leave the technology gathering dust in a warehouse than let S.H.I.E.L.D. benefit from it.
Fortunately, Shuri’s White Panther Armor had already reached the Ninetieth Heaven level, scarcely inferior to the Sentinel Robots. Once they fully understood the technology and converted it over, it would not be difficult at all. All they lacked was time.
"As for the powerful energy source you need…" Director Garrett glanced around at them, hesitated, and finally decided not to waste resources. "I may have one here. You should know it as well: the Tesseract."
"Later, I’ll have someone transfer the Tesseract here for you to study. You can consider how to use the Tesseract’s energy in the Strong Magnetic Armor to create an energy shield that can never be destroyed."
