Wound
The atmosphere in the living room instantly dropped to freezing point. Zhang Ye and Moon Knight both fell silent.
Although Moon Knight was a superhero known for his intellect, he had no solution for an existence beyond his comprehension. If it involved matters on the level of gods or various dimensions, he could still offer some advice, but when faced with something above the Multiverse, he was completely out of his depth.
Though he had never seen what that cocoon-like entity actually was, Moon Knight already knew from Zhang Ye’s description alone that its power definitely surpassed the Multiverse. After all, that thing’s goal was to devour universes.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ye was frantically thinking.
His greatest advantage in these universes was the memories in his mind. The plot developments of different universes, along with the abilities and weaknesses of various heroes and entities, were all things Zhang Ye could rely on. With those memories, he could resolve quite a few problems.
But faced with something that had never appeared in his memories, Zhang Ye was at a loss for the moment. Still, he knew that if he could learn the other party’s ultimate goal, there might be a way to deal with it.
What they knew now was that the thing had entrenched itself parasitically upon this universe’s timeline. With the Time Twister, if Zhang Ye wanted to, he could take people beyond the timeline and fight that thing.
But Zhang Ye did not know whether they could win. At the same time, if that thing wanted to run, then before the Time Twister had recorded this universe, Zhang Ye had no way to pursue it along an entire timeline. And if he wanted to record this universe, it would take a very long time. Time was what they lacked most right now.
Zhang Ye did not dare gamble on whether he would finish recording this universe first, or whether this universe would be swallowed by the Dark Canopy first.
So, the most important thing for Zhang Ye now was to figure out exactly what that thing wanted, as well as how it had targeted and descended upon this universe.
And perhaps only one person could give Zhang Ye the answers to those questions.
Thinking of this, Zhang Ye raised his head and glanced out the window.
Before long, there was movement at the door. Hearing it, Moon Knight immediately stood up.
"Don’t be nervous. My friends are back." Seeing Moon Knight’s guarded expression, Zhang Ye waved his hand, signaling that he could relax a little.
Sure enough, when the door opened, Kara strode in first. In her hand, she carried a blood-soaked head.
Judging from its features, it was undoubtedly Deadpool.
"Who is she?" Moon Knight looked at the seemingly frail, harmless-looking girl and turned his gaze toward Zhang Ye with some confusion.
"Her name is Kara. Like me, she comes from another universe." Zhang Ye did not elaborate.
"I could tell." Moon Knight nodded slightly, because he soon saw Pietro entering behind Kara. "Quicksilver from our universe has already died. I saw his body with my own eyes."
Zhang Ye did not respond. Instead, he walked toward Kara. He first glanced at the half-dead Deadpool, then fixed his gaze on Kara’s cold expression.
"You’re hurt?!" Zhang Ye frowned as he noticed a distinct slash across Kara’s shoulder.
Though it was not serious, it set every alarm bell in Zhang Ye’s mind ringing wildly.
In this universe, especially with the enhancement of its Yellow Sun, Kara’s combat power stood far above the peak of this universe’s hierarchy. Without Kryptonite, or the intervention of actual gods, Kara was practically invincible.
Besides, even if someone could hurt Kara, that person could never have been Deadpool. Against Kara, who had no weaknesses, Deadpool had virtually no chance of winning. How could he possibly have injured her?
"He’s more seriously injured than I am, isn’t he?" Kara said rather casually.
"Zhang, you didn’t see it. That guy couldn’t resist Kara at all. After going through untold trouble, he only managed to cut Kara once, and then Kara punched him straight into pieces!" Pietro came over as well, recounting what had happened earlier.
But as Zhang Ye listened to Pietro’s account, he could not relax at all.
"…Is something wrong?" Noticing Zhang Ye’s grave demeanor, Kara furrowed her brow slightly. She casually set Deadpool’s head on the table and looked at Zhang Ye uncertainly.
Kara and Pietro did not know that an even stranger existence lurked behind all this. To the two of them, Deadpool was the source of everything. As long as they dealt with Deadpool and cleaned up the villains who had brainwashed him, the crisis in this universe would be resolved.
"You shouldn’t have been hurt. Here, even Adamantium shouldn’t be able to harm you in the slightest." After pondering for a moment, Zhang Ye spoke slowly.
A Kryptonian’s physique was incredibly terrifying. There were many extraordinary metals in the DC Universe, but even the strongest of them could at most make Superman feel pain. Things that could truly injure Superman were almost nonexistent.
So the fact that Kara had been cut by Deadpool was impossible.
At Zhang Ye’s words, everyone fell silent. Even Pietro was stunned for a moment before frowning and looking at the wound on Kara’s shoulder.
That was right. How could Kara, with a body of steel, be injured?
Kara and Pietro exchanged glances, each seeing surprise and confusion in the other’s eyes.
It seemed that neither of them had considered that possibility, as if they had instinctively overlooked the question.
"Could there have been something special on that guy’s blade? Something in this universe with abilities similar to Kryptonite, which is why it could hurt me?" Kara thought for a moment and asked uncertainly.
Zhang Ye shook his head without answering. After a brief pause, he stepped in front of Kara and reached out to touch the wound on her shoulder. Then, dark green magical energy began to flow, gathering around Zhang Ye’s palm.
As he felt Kara’s skin, Zhang Ye’s brow furrowed deeper and deeper.
This was the most basic kind of detection magic. Simply put, it used magical energy to investigate the origin of the wound and what sort of attack had caused it.
But through the feedback from the magical energy, Zhang Ye discovered that the wound was extraordinarily strange. Rather than having been cut open by Deadpool’s blade, it seemed as though it had appeared out of thin air.
