A Supreme Expert Appears? (3K)
Loka, Short Hair, Lilith, and even Sela, who stood alone farther away, all saw the new mission prompt appear in the Space at the same time.
Virtually every world had various factions. Once one’s reputation reached a certain level, they could unlock faction shops and use reputation to purchase that faction’s special items, plot equipment, and even powerful abilities.
However, not every world’s power system was universally applicable. For example, in a world like the Naruto World, where Chakra was virtually the only power system, many Reincarnators outside the Chakra system would not bother investing in it.
But this world was different.
This enormous world, which fused the settings of One-Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100, Dandadan, and more, possessed an eclectic range of power systems. Supernatural abilities, martial arts, bloodline mutations represented by monsters, and divine bestowal systems represented by gods were all highly compatible categories of power.
No Reincarnator of any system would refuse to acquire a powerful supernatural ability or bloodline.
Everyone’s hearts raced. They only needed to complete one mission to unlock the Reputation Shop… and it seemed they would even receive the aid of plot characters at the pinnacle of this world, such as Tatsumaki and Saitama.
This was simply…
"There’s actually something this good…?"
Loka muttered to himself. Instinctively, he was about to accept the mission, but Short Hair stopped him. He signaled for them to wait and see what Mercenary Tao and the others decided first.
"Knowing how the Space operates, how could this mission possibly be so easy? There must be corresponding consequences…"
Sela bit his fingernails and gently tugged at his hair, strand after strand falling out. This was a supernatural ability known as Hyper-Computation. Once activated, it allowed him to think and calculate dozens of times faster, at the cost of accelerated metabolism and reduced lifespan of the cerebral cortex.
He rapidly considered the logic behind this mission. Mercenary Tao, that lunatic, had joined forces with another lunatic, the Heart Demon, without the others knowing. The two of them had ignored the iron rule and dragged Tatsumaki, at the very least Mad-tier, and Saitama, who was likely God-tier or perhaps even beyond classification, into the mission.
Moreover, the mission’s opposing side was not any existing plot character from this world. Although he did not belong to the Far East Magic Society and was instead a member of the Tree Herder’s team, through Tree Herder, he had also learned some secrets of the High-tier Reincarnator circles.
Most Secondary Worlds were more easily anchored because they could accommodate enormous numbers of Reincarnators at once. Once they appeared, they became resource hunting grounds for Third Tier teams.
Whether it was the drops produced by plot characters in such large worlds, the Singularities they could yield, or the Reputation Shops that could appear for every faction, all of them were extremely precious strategic resources.
Every High-tier team would fight over these Secondary Worlds. Those Title-level Reincarnators would do everything they could to earn enormous reputation in such worlds and, through some method he did not yet understand, generate a key that would allow them to enter that world repeatedly.
Before this mission, the greatest uproar in the East District had been Crimson Lotus Mage · Luoxi, under Life of Silence, losing a team battle mission. It was believed that she would likely lose ownership of a Secondary World related to Wind and Cloud.
From this perspective, what the Heart Demon had said was indeed very likely true. Tang Sanzang, follower of the Great Sun of Finality, was a terrifying individual. If he had joined hands with the Sage under Eternal Destiny, the one most skilled in schemes and cognitive alteration…
Then they really could have influenced the powerful plot characters of those kind and lawful factions without anyone noticing.
His gaze struggled. Although Tree Herder had agreements and a certain degree of cooperation with the other Title-level Reincarnators who had entered this world, faced with such an excellent mission opportunity, he truly did not want to miss it.
"Come to think of it, you’re that disgusting fellow under Tree Herder, aren’t you? Sela, the one who likes splitting open the skulls of Supernatural Ability Users to examine their brains?"
A mocking voice rang out. Sela’s face turned pale. He was not afraid of the Heart Demon. Though he knew the other’s abilities were bizarre, he himself could also be considered well-rounded.
But when he saw Tatsumaki and Fubuki turn their gazes toward him, he hurriedly explained.
"I swear, I’ve never done that in this world!"
"In this world?"
Fubuki found his words strange. She suddenly recalled that the tall white-haired spirit had told her sister earlier to interrogate these people who could travel between worlds while his host had yet to awaken, to find out what information they possessed…
But before he could explain further, her sister had rudely cut him off. Fubuki vaguely realized something and was just about to ask.
Yet Bai Cangshu spared him and walked straight toward the Flower Immortal, whose face had turned pale and blue.
He grabbed the woman’s wet neck and lifted her up, taking several steps until he arrived beside Red Dust, who appeared frozen in place after being hit by Unlimited Void.
"You should know this guy, right…?"
The Flower Immortal watched the Tree Herder grow farther and farther away. She wanted to summon the Saibamen buried underground, but even if a few Saibamen of that level had mutated under the effects of special drugs, they could not possibly accomplish anything on today’s battlefield.
After taking several deep breaths, she could only quickly compose herself and force a smile at Bai Cangshu.
"Yes. This man is the Chaos Sage’s second-in-command, the Sage’s most trusted deputy."
She placed heavy emphasis on the words "most trusted." While the superpowered sisters behind her interrogated Sela because of the Heart Demon’s provocation, she once again put her talent for reading people to use.
It seemed Red Dust had been defeated. But why had a person like Mercenary Tao not simply killed Red Dust? There were only two possibilities.
First, he could not kill Red Dust. Combined with the notification she had previously seen about Red Dust being killed, perhaps Red Dust possessed some kind of immortality ability?
Second, he wanted to extract more profit from Red Dust and the entire team, and Mercenary Tao already believed victory was assured…
Considering that Tatsumaki and Saitama had both appeared, the Flower Immortal believed the second possibility was more likely.
It was like when she had used Bai Cangshu’s public auction of Compound V to force Rose Tiger into offering up the combination of Shun Goku Satsu and Satsui no Hado. Although Rose Tiger had ultimately relied on quick thinking to make Mercenary Tao join Luoxi, meaning he had not suffered too great a loss…
He had still lost two rare items and abilities.
That had also planted the fuse for his eventual betrayal and downfall at the Flower Immortal’s hands.
Now, the Flower Immortal once again accurately seized the opportunity. As long as she could survive, she did not care in the slightest about the Chaos Sage’s interests.
Bai Cangshu understood the implication in the woman’s words. He looked at the cunning woman with amusement and played along.
"Then perhaps that Sage misjudged him. After Red Dust revived just now, he immediately intended to recruit me and strike out on his own. Now that I’ve eliminated such a traitor for the Sage, I assume…"
The Flower Immortal hurriedly nodded. She pressed a hand to her head and began communicating through the Sage’s ability.
"Red Dust isn’t dead. He betrayed the team, but he’s already been defeated by Mercenary Tao. Mercenary Tao, he…"
The Flower Immortal had only said a few simple words when her mouth began opening and closing soundlessly. The corners of her lips twitched upward into a twisted smile.
Fear remained on her beautiful face, but her expression had already warped uncontrollably into something between a cry and a laugh.
"Hello, Mercenary Tao. I am the Sage."
A voice so deep that it could not possibly have come from a woman emerged from the Flower Immortal’s mouth. Bai Cangshu noticed that her throat had begun bleeding. This was likely some ability that forcibly controlled another person’s body and altered its structure.
The bizarre ability made Lilith and the others fall even more silent.
But Bai Cangshu grabbed the Flower Immortal’s neck again and lifted her before his eyes. His pupils met the woman’s gaze, as though he intended to peer at the Sage hiding within.
The Sage had clearly been thrown off by Bai Cangshu’s disturbingly outrageous behavior and failed to maintain the imposing atmosphere of his strange ability descending upon the scene.
The Flower Immortal’s eyes rolled as she saw Red Dust lying on the ground, still holding his treasured blade.
"Heh, so it really is Reverse Universe. What a simple-minded fellow."
"Mercenary Tao, return this person to me."
His voice echoed through the air. Bai Cangshu was inexplicably compelled to pick up Red Dust, but in the next instant, a cold snort sounded amid the booming roar of exploding air.
Blood sprayed from the Flower Immortal’s mouth and nose, and her eyes were completely dyed red with blood.
The Sage’s ability had been interrupted by Tatsumaki. Only then did he seem to realize that someone like Tatsumaki was present. This reaction gave Bai Cangshu a new guess about his ability.
Perhaps it was not a possession-type ability at all. The other party had merely mentally controlled this woman, sensed the surroundings through Mental Power, and pretended to be able to see everything.
The Flower Immortal’s facial muscles had begun to necrotize. It was difficult for her to make vivid expressions anymore, but her voice continued to emerge.
"You dragged Tatsumaki into this, Mercenary Tao. You broke the iron rule… His Excellency will not forgive you."
In the next moment, the Flower Immortal’s body began to shake violently. Bai Cangshu sensed something was wrong and suddenly raised his hand. A gigantic fox appeared out of thin air and swallowed the woman whole.
You have killed Reincarnator MM60355053"That His Excellency… Heh, the Sage is as disgusting as ever!"
Midnight Watch had heard some interesting information. For a powerful Title-level Reincarnator like the Sage to address someone as "His Excellency," there were probably only Supreme Experts and the few other Reincarnators standing at the apex of the Space.
Had someone like that entered this world as well?!
Or had the Sage noticed that Mercenary Tao had dragged Tatsumaki into this and deliberately hinted at the existence of a Supreme Expert in order to force them to back down?
The Sage was a master at manipulating people’s hearts, a powerful Reincarnator who possessed an ability similar to making words become reality. His words were a mixture of truth and falsehood, making them difficult to distinguish.
"Mercenary Tao, what do you think?"
The Heart Demon asked Bai Cangshu, only to see Bai Cangshu lower his head and stare at the magatama-like mark in his hand.
Secret Rite: Inari God’s Strike. It had not seemed like he had consciously unleashed that attack just now. According to Bai Cangshu’s habits, if he wanted to strike, he would choose the more destructive Dodon Ray.
Moreover, every use of this curse mark was equivalent to consuming one D-rank Anomaly Point. Bai Cangshu had not actively used it in a long time.
Yet in that instant, he had instinctively activated that strike.
Thinking of the strange circumstances in which he had first obtained this thing, Bai Cangshu looked at this world that had been contaminated by the spirit realm and suddenly came up with an answer.
Infinite Dimensional Space was likely indeed raising poisonous insects in a jar, but the insects were not merely Reincarnators. Many beings who had noticed the anomalies had also willingly joined in…
From that perspective, the existence of something like the Black King Society was no longer so strange.
Bai Cangshu turned to look at Saitama, an oddly fervent light shining in his eyes.
After the misunderstanding involving Satoru Gojo earlier, Saitama no longer trusted these people’s "eyes" quite as much.
"Hey, Genos, that guy’s looking at me, right…?"
"Yes, Master. That Nameless Hero known as Mercenary Tao is looking at you with an expression mixed with greed, fanaticism, and madness. According to the database’s assessment, the other party’s sexual orientation may have…"
"Ahem, Genos, don’t say any more."
"Understood, Master."
