A Trapped Beast Still Fights

"No, I caught you."

Before he could finish speaking, purple light erupted beneath their feet, forming a rectangular plane. It appeared without warning or preparation. Everything happened so suddenly.

Before General Zod could react, a violent sensation of weightlessness and falling struck him. His hand loosened, and his entire body vanished into the purple light.

Above a planet in another world, a purple plane tore open a rift in midair. Then two figures fell straight through it.

Staring at everything in shock, General Zod felt as though he was still trapped in an illusion. He could not understand how a mere blink had somehow placed him high in the sky.

But the rushing air battering his face kept reminding General Zod that he needed to do something.

So General Zod instinctively activated his Bio-Field. It was a powerful ability he had awakened after arriving on Earth. The Bio-Field could not only weaken all energy attacks, but also allow him to fly through the sky.

But to his horror, the Bio-Field that had always responded like an extension of his body had failed. No matter how he called upon it, it was like throwing a stone into an abyss. Not even a ripple appeared, let alone a response.

It was as if he had never possessed a Bio-Field at all.

Unlike a child like Kara, General Zod was a renowned Kryptonian general. He was more familiar with certain Kryptonian secrets, including the way yellow suns enhanced their physiology and the legends of the Kryptonian gods.

Those powerful abilities belonged solely to Kryptonians. They were contained within their genes, something that could never possibly be changed.

Yet now, those abilities had been erased. They had not been taken away or restricted, but directly "erased," as though they had never existed.

General Zod’s scalp went numb. He even wondered whether he was still under the effects of the hallucinogenic gas, because he simply could not believe what was happening to him.

But reality gave him no time to think.

Boom—!

With a deafening crash, General Zod’s body slammed heavily into the ground, blasting a crater several meters deep into the rocky Gobi Desert.

On the other side of the sky, a figure holding a Black Umbrella descended slowly with the aid of propellers. He finally landed lightly beside the crater, the picture of elegance.

"To break free from the illusion created by Fear Toxin and even discover my real location… Kryptonians truly are terrifying creatures." Zhang Ye closed his umbrella and muttered as he looked toward the crater.

The illusion created by Fear Toxin had indeed become "controllable" and "extremely powerful" after Batman enhanced it, but illusions still retained some connection to reality.

The moment General Zod fell under the illusion’s influence, Zhang Ye had withdrawn from the battlefield. General Zod was extremely dangerous after descending into madness. Under the illusion’s effects, he would attack everyone around him, regardless of friend or foe, and with terrifying brutality.

General Zod in that state was almost impossible to stop. Forget Supergirl Kara—even the Kryptonians who tried to stop him could not withstand a single punch from an enraged Zod.

But that gave Zhang Ye’s group an excellent opportunity to retreat. Following the plan, Little Barry Allen and Pietro immediately moved out, carrying every human soldier away from the battlefield. This was no longer a battle they could participate in. Staying meant certain death.

They had originally worried that the Kryptonians might attack during the evacuation, but fortunately, General Zod had drawn the attention of most of them. Even Faora had no time to spare for the humans retreating from the battlefield.

The final result was perfect, at least for the human side. The crazed General Zod personally slaughtered every Kryptonian soldier. Even Faora could not stop his killing spree, and she ultimately became one of General Zod’s victims.

As for the end, the effects of the Fear Toxin gradually weakened, and Zhang Ye had no choice but to reenter the battlefield at great risk. Since the portal could only open beside Zhang Ye, he had to get close to General Zod if he wanted to take him away.

Thus, in the illusion, the phantoms continuously mocked General Zod, drawing his attention and attacking his mind with words, trying to break his sanity.

But in reality, Zhang Ye jogged all the way from outside the battlefield and spent quite a while reaching General Zod from behind.

Although General Zod, even with his mind affected by the illusion, had still managed to block Zhang Ye’s sneak attack through a warrior’s vigilance, Zhang Ye’s plan had succeeded. The instant General Zod touched Zhang Ye, Miss Minutes opened a portal to Zod’s Tomb.

Watching General Zod slowly climb out of the crater, Zhang Ye smiled beneath his mask. From this moment onward, General Zod was completely trapped. There was no longer any possibility of turning things around.

And just as Zhang Ye had expected, General Zod was in an exceptionally miserable state. His body was covered in wounds of every size, and even his armor had become tattered. No one would have believed that this was the Kryptonian general who had once terrified all in his path.

Under the influence of the Red Sun, General Zod’s body had become extremely weak. On top of that, crashing into the ground from such a height without any cushioning had inflicted severe damage upon him.

Covered in blood as he crawled out of the crater, he looked like a Hobgoblin that had crawled out of hell itself, inspiring fear from the depths of one’s heart.

"What did you do?" General Zod gritted his teeth, glaring at Zhang Ye as though he wanted to tear him to pieces.

Even Zhang Ye felt uncomfortable under that gaze. A trapped beast would still fight. General Zod was indeed far weaker than before, but the more that was the case, the more dangerous he felt.

"Didn’t you see? This is the grave I specially chose for you—a planet illuminated by the same kind of sun as Krypton’s. Do you like it?" Zhang Ye looked down at General Zod and spoke calmly.

"That’s impossible. Impossible."

"It’s real. The effects of the Fear Toxin disappeared long ago, and after falling from that height, you should be able to tell reality from illusion by now."

General Zod did not answer immediately. He stared at Zhang Ye, overwhelmed by immense unwillingness.

He needed no proof, because his surroundings and his current condition were more than enough to confirm his predicament. He really had been transported to an alien planet, one that Krypton had never observed.

Clenching his fists, General Zod slowly rose to his feet.

"If this is reality, then as long as I kill you, I can return to Earth and restart my plan."

"The World Engine? Sorry, while you were slaughtering the Kryptonian soldiers, I had Kara destroy that thing." Zhang Ye raised his hand and glanced at his watch. "Going by the time, it should already be space junk."

At those words, General Zod’s mind went blank.

Then an uncontainable fury erupted instantly.

"Kill you! I’ll kill you!"

Like a wounded beast, General Zod had lost everything. At this moment, all he wanted was to kill the ant before him, the one who had destroyed everything he had.

Even though he no longer possessed the power to destroy the world.

Even though he no longer possessed his powerful Bio-Field.

Even though he no longer possessed his invincible Man of Steel.

But as a warrior, he believed that even without those things, he could still tear the ant before him to shreds!

"Don’t misunderstand."

Seeing the killing intent in General Zod’s eyes, Zhang Ye chuckled and waved his hand.

"You Kryptonians have impressive combat instincts, especially you, someone born for battle. I’m just an ordinary person. I don’t have your strength or combat experience, so I’m not your opponent."

A cold glint flashed across the lenses of Zhang Ye’s Bird-Beak Mask. He tilted his head toward the direction behind General Zod and sneered.

"…He is."

General Zod froze for a moment. Then he paused and turned toward the direction Zhang Ye was looking.

On top of a massive boulder five or six meters high stood a black figure against the wind. No one knew how long he had been standing there. His silhouette had almost blended into the surroundings.

A black cape fluttered in the wind like the cloak of death itself. Simply looking at him inspired instinctive terror. The shadow stood atop the boulder, radiating an almost imperceptible killing intent.

Like a bloodthirsty bat!
