General Zod’s Final Chapter!
Batman made his move!
The instant General Zod’s gaze locked onto him, Batman had already begun to act.
This Batman was no greenhorn fresh on the scene, nor was he the rookie who could still slip and fall while leaping across rooftops with a Grappling Hook. He was the urban legend who had ended all crime in Gotham City, the demon feared most by every evildoer.
Battle-hardened, he could fully leverage every advantage he possessed, and he was confident that, given time to prepare, he could defeat any enemy.
On one side stood Gotham City’s bat vigilante, someone at the very pinnacle of humanity. Though he was advanced in years, he remained a figure who could strike terror into the hearts of his enemies.
On the other side stood Krypton’s great general. He had been born for war and conflict, had helped Krypton conquer world after world, and had annihilated every enemy bold enough to invade Krypton.
This battle between two civilizations from different universes finally began under Zhang Ye’s lone watch.
A Batarang came hurtling through the air, leaving an afterimage as it flew straight for General Zod’s head.
Seeing this, General Zod immediately retreated. He was unsure whether his body could currently withstand such attacks, but the sense of danger emanating from the Batarang told him that this human truly had the means to hurt him.
But General Zod did not care. Perhaps the Yellow Sun’s enhancement had made him somewhat dismissive of Earth’s civilization, because he felt that nothing could possibly harm him. Yet the experience forged through years of battle had not let him forget how he fought before gaining a Man of Steel’s body.
The Batarang was fast, but General Zod still narrowly evaded the strike.
However, the moment General Zod retreated, a grappling claw suddenly appeared and struck him directly, leaving him with no room to dodge. Fortunately, General Zod quickly raised an arm to block it; otherwise, the claw would have gone straight for his face.
The claw savagely latched onto General Zod’s arm, its tips digging deep into the damaged armor plating there. The tremendous force made General Zod stagger, accompanied by a faint pain in his arm.
Clearly, the claw had torn through General Zod’s skin.
But this slight pain caused no ripple in General Zod’s mind. He grabbed the rope connected to the claw and yanked with all his strength, dragging Batman straight toward him with immense force.
Though he had lost most of his strength, General Zod could still sense that no matter how weakened he was, his power was absolutely beyond what a frail Earthling could match. If his opponent kept wearing him down with weapons from a distance, then he would surely die at his hands.
But if he fought this Earthling in close combat, General Zod was confident that he would not lose to anyone. It was the confidence his warrior genes had given him.
What surprised him was that his opponent had the same idea.
Faced with his tremendous strength, that Bat-Man showed no fear at all. Instead, he charged straight at him, abandoning his ranged attacks and choosing to engage him in close combat.
As though—
As though his opponent wanted to defeat him in the field he was best at!
"To kill a man, you must first crush his spirit."
Zhang Ye licked his slightly dry lips. He had seen through Old Bruce Wayne’s intentions as well. What surprised him was that Old Batman had actually chosen such an approach. He was already sixty—was he still refusing to admit he was old?
And to the prideful General Zod, this was undoubtedly an insult. His brows furrowed, and the killing intent in his eyes seemed to take tangible form. Power gathered in his fist as General Zod threw a punch directly at Batman.
Then the rapidly approaching Batman gave a cold smile. His black cape unfurled at high speed, spreading behind him like a pair of bat wings and bringing his body to a halt in midair.
Like a speeding train abruptly coming to a dead stop, Batman’s body froze steadily before General Zod’s fist. That ferocious punch struck nothing but air, and only the terrifying gust of wind brushed across Batman’s face.
Naturally, Batman would not let such an opportunity slip away. He twisted his old waist and forcibly spun his body through a difficult midair rotation, then viciously slammed his right foot into General Zod’s face.
Having thrown a full-powered punch into empty air already left General Zod off balance, and it was far too late to defend against the incoming attack. Struck squarely in the face, General Zod could not help but fall backward.
But Batman would not let him go so easily. He looped the Grappling Hook’s rope around himself and used his full body weight to pull downward. In an instant, General Zod’s falling body was yanked back upright.
Batman released the rope. Both hands wore Finger Tigers made from a material infused with Red Sun radiation, and he unleashed a barrage of punches.
Feeling pain flare across his face, General Zod hurriedly steadied himself and counterattacked. But his opponent’s speed was absurdly fast—no, it was not exactly speed. It was experience.
Against General Zod’s counterattacks, Batman dodged with only the slightest movements, every evasion pushed to the absolute limit. Even the slightest mistake would have gotten him hit by General Zod’s fists, yet despite this, Batman had not been struck even once during their exchange.
At the same time, those small movements allowed Batman to attack more quickly. His fists created afterimages as they continuously struck General Zod’s joints and the damaged sections of his armor.
As the only spectator present, Zhang Ye watched the astonishing battle unfold, and only two words came to mind—smooth as silk.
Batman did not look like an old man at all. He seemed more like a strong young man in his prime, one with terrifying combat experience. From the very beginning, General Zod had already fallen into Batman’s rhythm.
Those rainstorm-like attacks constantly shattered General Zod’s defenses, while General Zod’s counterattacks lost all effect against Batman’s dance-like footwork.
"Impossible!"
General Zod roared. Enduring the agonizing pain coursing through his body, he took one of Batman’s punches head-on. Then, he finally seized this hard-won chance and grabbed Batman’s fist with his right hand.
He spat out a mouthful of bloody foam, blood trickling from between General Zod’s teeth.
He gripped Batman’s fist tightly and snarled with a twisted expression.
"You’re nothing but an ant. How could you possibly hurt me?!"
Batman answered with another powerful fist.
And an ice-cold whisper.
"Because I’m Batman!"
