America’s Wound, Chaos Descends
Bang!
A figure jumped from a hundred-meter-high building. The terrifying impact let out a deafening crash, punching straight through the concrete pavement and sending thick smoke billowing up.
Homelander lowered his eyelids as he looked at Queen Maeve, who had leaped down from the sky. The delight on his face gradually faded.
At the same time, a cry of alarm rose from the crowd.
As the dust settled, the military and police received orders at the same time and began spreading apart to either side. In the space they revealed, Queen Maeve stood in the center. A-Train stood to her left, Butcher to her right, while Starlight, Golden Boy, Hughie, and the others lined up farther to the side.
Queen Maeve and the others were, after all, superheroes who had been famous for years and enjoyed immense prestige. Queen Maeve and A-Train themselves were monsters far beyond ordinary people, so the gangsters behind Homelander did not dare rush them recklessly.
A man in a suit, with even his hair impeccably groomed, emerged from a Cadillac parked by the street behind them. He looked at Homelander in the sky, then at the dark mass of rabble below.
He spoke.
"Homelander, I think we should talk. This world cannot be conquered by so-called violence alone."
His eyes held the confidence of a man with everything under control. That look darkened Homelander’s expression.
Homelander himself loved that expression, but he hated seeing it on anyone else.
He slowly descended from the air, passing directly over Queen Maeve and the others before lightly landing in front of the vice president.
Homelander looked coldly at the ordinary man. A faint red glow appeared in his eyes as he completely scanned the other man’s body with X-Ray Vision. Beneath that seemingly crisp suit, he was actually wearing a bulletproof vest.
Homelander shook his head and smiled disdainfully, deliberately lowering his voice.
"Didn’t you know? A bulletproof vest can’t save you…"
At this moment, there was no need for a superhuman’s killing intent to be concealed. Vice President Ross forced himself to remain calm, but his rapidly rising heart rate could not be hidden. Homelander stepped forward again and mocked him teasingly.
"Look, I’m walking toward you to talk, yet you keep backing away, trying to escape…"
His voice was loud enough for all those supporters to hear clearly.
Ross knew things were going badly, but the fear would not go away. Fortunately, a voice rang out at that moment.
"Hey, Homelander, mind keeping your distance?"
The young man’s voice was clear as he placed one hand on Homelander’s shoulder.
Golden Boy was the No. 1 student at Vought International’s superhero training academy, a promising prospect who could replace a member of The Seven at any time. He could transform into a man of fire at will, control flames, and fly. He was one of the few Supernatural Ability Users who came close to Homelander in sheer presence.
Whoosh!
A-Train appeared in front of the vice president at the same time. Though fear showed on his face, he still spoke.
"Homelander, that Asian man has misled you. You’ve gone too far this time…"
Queen Maeve also came up behind Homelander.
"Homelander, we have to stop everything now and put this country back on track."
Their words made Homelander’s face darken like storm clouds. He had always hated hearing such accusations, people telling him to control his voice. By now, he believed he had awakened and truly found his place—the strongest hero, destined to possess the world and protect it.
Yet these weaklings still thought they could speak to him as equals. No… they were no longer even speaking to him as equals. Were they trying to lecture him?
Homelander was so infuriated by the thought that he laughed.
"Ha. So you people really think you’re my equals now."
Homelander turned around and effortlessly twisted free. Golden Boy felt the force that had so easily shaken him off, and his expression froze before he could react.
Homelander casually grabbed Golden Boy by the shoulder and threw him backward.
Bang!
Golden Boy instantly smashed into a building.
Homelander turned back, his brutal aura completely unleashed.
He looked at Queen Maeve, then turned to glance at A-Train before finally fixing his eyes on Butcher. In a chilling voice, he said,
"I am the only… superhero."
At that moment, Ross felt an immense threat of death engulf him. He could no longer remain calm and shouted,
"Take him out!"
"Take him out, now!"
The person he was shouting at was not Queen Maeve or A-Train, but Butcher.
At last, Butcher revealed the same savage smile as Homelander.
"Ha, superheroes really are…"
Bzzzz!
Scorching beams suddenly shot from Butcher’s eyes. Caught off guard, Homelander was hit instantly. The tremendous power of the Heat Vision blasted Homelander away.
Butcher immediately leaped dozens of meters into the air, raised both hands high, and fiercely hammered down after Homelander.
Boom!
Homelander was likewise smashed into a building.
The scene erupted in an instant.
Even Popi was confused at this moment. Homelander had actually been sent flying?
Homelander himself shook his head and rose from an office on the third floor of the building. He was not injured; only the clothes over his chest had been burned away by the Heat Vision.
Watching Butcher charge toward him, he finally realized that the man possessed Supernatural Abilities close to his own.
Bang!
White tear gas canisters exploded at the front. Popi and the others immediately realized what was happening and shouted,
"The police made the first move!"
Ross turned back at once, clutching a loudspeaker as he shouted himself hoarse.
"Stop! No firing! Do not attack anyone other than Homelander!"
Kalpa held a gun and High-Explosive Grenades in his hands. With a sneer, he tossed out a High-Explosive Grenade.
Bang!
Amid flying blood and flesh, Bai Cangshu was no less ruthless. He threw several High-Explosive Grenades into the police and military like scattered raindrops.
George, who had just ducked into an alley, heard the enormous explosions and gunfire and immediately realized what had happened. His entire body trembled. Turning back, he saw only white smoke rising, followed by fierce flames and anguished screams.
Massive chaos and slaughter descended in an instant.
Ross’s scalp went numb. He did not understand why fighting had broken out when he had clearly stressed that no form of engagement was permitted. Even the police and soldiers at the very front should not have been carrying lethal weapons.
His gaze searched through his own people until he finally spotted the Asian man Butcher had brought in. He was holding a long gun and spraying bullets wildly at the gangsters.
"Stop!"
He roared as he ordered his bodyguards to take out Kalpa.
But Kalpa merely smiled without a care, turned around, and emptied a burst of bullets at Vice President Ross.
Reincarnators were demons by nature. The way the space generated Singularities doomed these people to pursue the greatest chaos in exchange for higher-tier rewards.
Kalpa delighted in that nature.
After emptying his magazine, he put away the long gun and looked once more at Mercenary Tao in the opposing camp.
There was no doubt that the other man was also a truly "competent" Reincarnator, pursuing chaos and destruction.
But this time, Kalpa did not see Mercenary Tao. As his gaze shifted, a voice sounded behind him.
"Looking for me?"
Pfft!
Bai Cangshu seized Kalpa’s right hand and instantly bent it backward. The angle was so extreme that the joints and muscles were completely torn apart.
Kalpa’s expression changed slightly. A hand gripped his mouth from behind, followed by a tremendous force.
Crack!
His jawbone was completely crushed.
Bai Cangshu looked relaxed. Against someone who could constantly switch bodies, perhaps only his Death Intent Senluo was truly suited to dealing with him.
"Kalpa, after all that searching, were Butcher and Golden Boy really your trump cards for killing Homelander?"
"I’m very disappointed. You didn’t even bring Soldier Boy."
