Ancient Void Dragon, Defying Fate and Changing Destiny
Su Yu led Zi Yan onward for who knew how long before they finally came upon a cave dwelling.
Looking at the cave dwelling gradually appearing in the distance, Zi Yan asked in confusion, "Teacher, why is there a cave dwelling beneath the Heavenly Flame Training Qi Tower?"
"I didn’t bring you here to see the cave dwelling. Do you see the dragon coiled at the entrance?" Su Yu said.
Zi Yan froze. If Su Yu had not mentioned it, she truly would not have noticed. She immediately looked over and saw a massive violet-gold dragon lying coiled before the cave entrance.
Zi Yan suddenly recalled what Su Yu had just said, and a guess surfaced in her mind. Could this lifeless-looking dragon be her father???
"Come on, let’s go over."
As he spoke, Su Yu led Zi Yan before the enormous dragon. The dragon immediately awoke and flew into the air, snorting two streams of white vapor from its nostrils as it glared viciously at Su Yu and Zi Yan.
However, the instant he saw Zi Yan, he froze. Then, in an aged voice trembling with emotion, he cried, "Daughter, my precious daughter! Your father has missed you so much. I never thought your father would be able to see you again."
The giant dragon immediately descended to the ground and transformed into a disheveled middle-aged man. The man rushed before Zi Yan and wrapped her in an embrace.
The closeness of bloodline could not lie. Zi Yan felt that bond from her bloodline and immediately understood that the man before her truly was her father.
However, Zi Yan clearly had not figured out how to face her father yet, so she stood there without saying a word.
Zhuo Kun released Zi Yan. He knew she could not accept him all at once. Stroking her cheek, tears streaming down his aged face, he said, "It’s all because your father was too greedy. Otherwise, I would not have been sealed here all this time, unable to reunite with you."
Zi Yan looked toward Su Yu, a trace of pleading in her eyes. She did not know why, but instinctively felt that Su Yu could help her.
Su Yu smiled. "Zhuo Kun, I’ll help you break the seal."
Zhuo Kun gave a bitter smile. "Don’t waste your effort. This is a seal laid down by the Tou She Ancient God. No one can break—"
Before Zhuo Kun could finish, Su Yu drew the Mingze Sword and slashed at the empty space behind him. Zhuo Kun immediately sensed that the seal upon him had been severed by that single strike.
Zhuo Kun stared at Su Yu in astonishment, his mouth hanging open in disbelief. At the same time, he was utterly confused. How was this possible? The Tou She Ancient God’s seal had been broken just like that???
After being stunned for a moment, Zhuo Kun immediately dropped to one knee. "Zhuo Kun thanks you, Senior, for saving me. May I ask if there is anything you require of me?"
Zhuo Kun thought to himself that such an incredible expert had personally come to save him, so there had to be something he needed done. That was the only reasonable explanation.
Su Yu smiled. "There is nothing I need you to do. I saved you simply because I felt like it."
Zhuo Kun froze. Sure enough, the world of great experts was beyond the understanding of weak people like him.
"Let’s leave first. This isn’t a place to talk." With a wave of Su Yu’s hand, the three of them returned to the small courtyard. Zi Yan then went off by herself to sit to one side and eat snacks.
Seeing this, Zhuo Kun’s face showed a trace of bitterness. Su Yu patted him on the shoulder and said, "Zhuo Kun, you should go take a bath first."
Zhuo Kun nodded and left the small courtyard. After leaving, he found a stream and began bathing. Once he had cleaned himself up, he immediately returned, only to find Zi Yan still sitting there, munching on snacks like a little mouse.
With a gentle smile on his face, Zhuo Kun sat down beside Zi Yan and asked, "Daughter, how have you been all these years?"
Zi Yan replied flatly, "Pretty well. What about you?"
Zi Yan had merely asked in return out of instinct, but it delighted Zhuo Kun beyond measure. My daughter still cares about me. He immediately beamed and said, "Me? I’ve been pretty well too. After all, your father is a Nine Star Dou Sheng. I don’t need food or drink, and I can’t die."
Zi Yan looked at Zhuo Kun with some heartache. Seeing this, Zhuo Kun felt as if happiness had blossomed in his heart. As long as his daughter still cared about him, he was satisfied.
After that, Zhuo Kun began telling Zi Yan about his past. Zi Yan ate her snacks with an expression that seemed as though she did not want to listen, but she was actually listening very carefully.
Zhuo Kun looked as though he were talking to himself, yet the more he spoke, the happier he became.
He thought that since Zi Yan had not impatiently left, it meant she liked hearing about his past. How could that not make him happy?
Zhuo Kun did not know how long he had been talking until Su Yu came out. Looking at the two of them, Su Yu said, "Dinner’s ready. Come inside."
Zhuo Kun smiled and nodded, then looked at Zi Yan. "Daughter, let’s go in."
Zi Yan nodded slightly, then entered the house with Zhuo Kun. By then, Yao Lao, Mao Jiu, Su Yiyi, Gu Xun’er, Xiao Yi Xian, and Qing Lin had already taken their seats. Only three spots remained, and Su Yu sat at the side rather than in the middle.
This way, Zhuo Kun and Zi Yan sat together. Zhuo Kun looked at Su Yu with gratitude in his eyes.
During the meal, whenever Zi Yan ate a dish, Zhuo Kun immediately picked up some of that dish and placed it in her bowl.
After dinner, Zi Yan went off to play with the girls. Zhuo Kun could not keep following her, so he went into the courtyard and sat in a chair, gazing at the moon on the horizon.
Su Yu entered the courtyard carrying two cups of tea. He handed one to Zhuo Kun, then asked, "Zhuo Kun, because of your disappearance, the Ancient Void Dragon Clan has split into four factions. Do you want to restore the Ancient Void Dragon Clan and become its emperor?"
Zhuo Kun sighed and shook his head. "No. After being sealed for so long, I’ve already seen through power and strength. Now, I only want to stay by Zi Yan’s side. Would you permit me to remain here, Senior?"
Su Yu smiled and nodded. "Of course."
Zhuo Kun knew that he owed Zi Yan greatly, so all he wanted now was to devote everything he had to making it up to her.
Su Yu looked at Zhuo Kun with a smile. "Zhuo Kun, do you truly no longer wish to become a Dou Di?"
Zhuo Kun shook his head with a bitter smile. "It isn’t that I don’t want to. I just won’t go mad over it anymore. If Heaven wants me to become an emperor, then even sitting at home, I will surely encounter an opportunity to become one. If Heaven does not want me to become an emperor, then even if I possessed heaven-reaching abilities, I fear it would be of no use."
Su Yu fell silent. If he were not the Sovereign, he too would be destined to submit to fate. Defying fate and changing one’s destiny was no easy matter. Without being the Sovereign or an Innate Spiritual Treasure, how could one so easily defy Heaven? Within a world, the Heavenly Dao was the ruler. Without absolute strength, defying fate and changing one’s destiny was nothing but a joke.
