Aurora, a Fated Encounter
Inside the bar, because of the display of superpowers earlier, a large group of handsome men and beautiful women had silently withdrawn from the venue.
When immortals fought, ordinary people had better stay out of it.
At a square table, Kyle and Yutong sat side by side, while Lorna sat alone directly opposite them, one hand imperiously resting on the back of her chair.
The three remained silent. The strange aura between them made the surrounding atmosphere equally awkward and tense.
"Um… here is the alcohol you ordered." The bartender approached timidly, carrying a tray holding several bottles and intact glasses.
After swiftly setting down the bottles and glasses, he quickly backed away, afraid of being dragged into this inexplicable dispute.
Lorna’s stunning face seemed covered in frost. With her arms folded across her chest, she glared at Kyle with a dark expression. If looks could kill, Kyle would likely have already been blasted into dust.
Kyle, however, remained perfectly at ease. As he naturally poured himself a drink, he also focused part of his attention on drawing a card.
Yes, although Magnetism Control could not be drawn, Force Field Traction was also a rare blue Ability Card.
This sort of ability had little impact on the current God Race Gene and was an excellent choice for a card draw, capable of coexisting well with it.
But Kyle’s indifference did not mean that Yutong, his treasure guardian, was equally unconcerned.
Silver light flickered in Yutong’s beautiful eyes as she said coolly, "Lorna, if you keep treating my boss like this, I won’t be polite anymore!"
Friends were friends, but if she had to choose between a friend and her boss, her answer had been decided sixty years ago.
She won’t even let me glare at him…
Lorna sighed inwardly but did not dare say it aloud. She had no way to lose her temper with Yutong.
Now she understood just how important Kyle was to Yutong. Yutong, who had never gotten angry with her in the past, had actually argued with her repeatedly because of him.
The more Lorna thought about it, the more indignant she became. She directly picked up a bottle, raised it to her lips with bold abandon, and guzzled down several mouthfuls.
She was ruthless too.
Kyle shook his head. While reading the card, he was considering something else.
Another mutant.
After Yutong, Logan, and Sabretooth, this was the fourth mutant he had encountered.
And this Magnetism Control ability, along with her blunt and domineering temperament—no matter how he looked at it, she seemed to have inherited something from a certain major villain in the X-Men universe. Could that guy really exist?
No.
Kyle dismissed the thought and reorganized his reasoning.
Just like the future Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, their existence and appearance did not necessarily mean they were that guy’s descendants. There was also the possibility of genetically engineered humans!
The Lorna before him was likely born under circumstances similar to Yutong’s, which was why the two had become such close friends who understood each other so well.
With that thought, Kyle’s gaze toward Lorna softened somewhat.
"That hit the spot!" Lorna put down the bottle and casually wiped her lips with her other hand, completely free of any elegant burden of maintaining a goddess-like image.
Liquor trailed down her fair, smooth chin, slid past her neck, and disappeared into that snowy-white cleavage.
"Then let’s discuss serious business." Lorna gave Kyle a sidelong glance, then looked at Yutong. Her eyes shifted as she pondered aloud, "Mr. Peace, I know you are the legendary hero who ended World War II and that you have just returned from outer space, but none of that is the point."
"There is no reason for a woman to wait for you for so long—for more than half a century!" Lorna cleared her throat and said something shocking, "I’ll ask you just one question: are you going to marry Yutong?!"
Pfft!
Kyle had just taken a sip of alcohol when he sprayed it all out, misting Lorna’s face across from him.
Lorna said nothing more. She picked up a towel, wiped her face, and set it down. Everything about her showed that she was completely serious.
Kyle’s mind was still in turmoil, and he did not know what to say.
Lorna was secretly delighted and said in a low voice, "Just as I thought, you never even considered it! You should know that Yutong isn’t young anymore. If you won’t marry her but still insist on keeping her by your side, isn’t that contradictory?"
Kyle thought about it. Indeed, that was true.
Yutong really was not young anymore. If there was a suitable candidate, then perhaps…
Kyle stopped. He suddenly realized that he was unwilling to let Yutong go.
It was not romantic feeling between a man and a woman, but a deeper bond—perhaps even a selfish possessiveness.
He replied with slight perfunctory indifference, "If Yutong herself wants to leave, or if she has someone she likes, I will agree to let her go."
Lorna was secretly overjoyed. Everything was proceeding according to her plan.
"I won’t leave my boss!" Yutong suddenly said firmly.
She added, "And besides my boss, there is no one I like."
"Who says there isn’t?" Lorna refuted her, pointing at her own nose as she loudly said, "What about me?"
Pfft!
Kyle had just taken another sip when he heard such a thunderous statement and could not hold it in, spraying Lorna’s face again.
Girl, that kind of thinking was dangerous!
"Obviously, neither of us has that. We cannot become life partners; we can only be friends," Yutong explained naturally.
She had possessed cognitive abilities from birth and could read other people’s thoughts. She understood many things, even if she simply did not pay attention to them.
Yutong continued, "Besides, my life and abilities were given to me by my boss. Everything I have belongs only to him. If one day I am asked to leave, you can kill me and take my corpse away."
Lorna fell silent. She knew that what Yutong said was probably all true.
The cabbage had already been eaten by a tyrannosaurus.
Lorna sighed softly. Knowing she could not persuade her, she gloomily picked up the bottle and guzzled down another half of it.
This meeting was essentially over at that point.
Exactly half an hour had passed.
A notification of a successful card draw sounded in Kyle’s mind. A blue Ability Card entered the Card Space, resting alongside the Healing Factor of the same rank.
Just as they were preparing to go their separate ways, Yutong proposed, "Oh, right. Boss, could you shake hands with Lorna?"
"Hm?" Kyle raised a brow. Realizing that this might have been Yutong’s purpose in coming here, he stood up decisively and proactively extended his right hand.
Lorna pursed her lips. Under Yutong’s expectant gaze, she lazily rose from her chair and likewise extended her right hand to take his.
This was only for Yutong’s sake, a symbolic gesture of friendship that showed they acknowledged each other.
But when their palms touched—
"What is this?" Lorna froze. She felt her Magnetism Control ability begin operating on its own, irresistibly gathering around her right palm and Kyle himself.
Not just her.
Even Kyle found it novel. The Fire God Divine Power hidden within his body seemed to respond with equal enthusiasm to her ability, flowing like a warm current toward his palm and Lorna’s body.
When the two abilities came into contact, it was as though they produced some kind of chemical reaction, undergoing an obvious qualitative transformation.
In that brief instant, gorgeous, dazzling multicolored aurora wrapped around their clasped hands, bathing the bar hall in strange, brilliant colors.
