Best Buddy, Bucky
In theory, as a high-ranking member of Hydra S.H.I.E.L.D., Silvert should have retained a vast amount of classified Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. information in his memories.
But after examining his memories, Li Feng was confused. Why were Silvert’s memories such a mess?
Some of them looked remarkably "fresh," as if they had just been uploaded into Silvert’s mind. A sense of foreboding suddenly rose in Li Feng’s heart. His right hand swiftly brushed across his eyes, and after opening his Mystic Eyes, he looked at Silvert.
With just one glance, Li Feng spotted the problem and couldn’t help cursing, "Holy shit, a biohuman?"
Natasha froze for a moment, then looked in shock at the bewildered Silvert. "You’re a biohuman?"
Silvert blankly raised both hands before his eyes, as if looking at his palms could determine whether he was a biohuman.
Then Silvert shook his head slightly and said firmly, "Impossible. My memories are clear, and my logical thinking is complete. I can’t be a biohuman."
Li Feng rolled his eyes and mocked, "Your memories are so clear that you probably don’t even remember what color underwear you’re wearing."
Li Feng turned to Natasha and shrugged. "His Astral Body is incomplete."
"What’s an Astral Body?" Natasha asked with a thoroughly baffled expression.
Li Feng casually explained, "An Astral Body is the projection of a soul." He pointed at Silvert and continued, "This guy has no soul, only a damaged Astral Body. In other words, he’s an artificial creation. As for why he doesn’t know he’s a biohuman, the real Silvert might be behind it. Maybe he brainwashed him and erased some unnecessary memories."
"By the way, his mind is full of fragmented memories. They might be of some help to you, but don’t get your hopes up."
Steve rubbed his forehead as if he had a headache. Of everyone present, he knew the least about biohumans, which meant he had no idea what Li Feng was talking about.
Still, Steve understood that Silvert was not entirely useless. Even a mosquito was meat. No matter how little Silvert knew, it was better than knowing nothing.
"Let’s get out of here first. Staying in one place too long could draw S.H.I.E.L.D.’s attention." Steve looked up at the sky and added, "There may already be satellites watching us under fake guidance from Silvert."
As he spoke, Steve bound Silvert’s hands behind his back. "Austin, get us out of here first."
Li Feng glanced at Silvert and said with drooping brows, "Actually, Hydra has already noticed us. They have a way to detect Portal energy fluctuations. As soon as I open a Portal, they’ll be able to find out where I opened it within seconds."
At that, Li Feng glared at Natasha and complained, "Is your S.H.I.E.L.D. insane? Fine, you collected the energy fluctuations from my spells, but then you handed them out to Hydra like flyers all over the street. Great. Now whenever I cast a spell, Hydra knows where I am. Do I have no privacy at all? Believe it or not, I’ll send you a lawyer’s letter."
Despite his words, Li Feng still waved his hand and opened a Portal. "Oh, right. I found out from this fake’s memories that Project Insight will be carried out tomorrow. In other words, if your bodies can’t withstand modern weapons bombardment, you’ll be facing a storm within twenty-four hours. Of course, look on the bright side—you’ll have millions of people buried with you, so you definitely won’t be lonely on the road to the underworld."
Steve and Natasha exchanged a glance, then both looked at Li Feng and urgently asked, "Where’s Fury? We need support."
"Why are you looking at me?" Li Feng spread his hands. "How would I know where Egg is hiding?"
Li Feng looked at the Portal and asked, "The Portal’s open. Aren’t you going to enjoy the last moments of your lives?"
Steve shot Li Feng an annoyed glare. Who cared about the Portal at a time like this? Even if they left now, wouldn’t they still be doomed when Project Insight came tomorrow?
Though death would come sooner or later, why not save their lives while there was still a chance?
Knowing that millions of people had less than twenty-four hours left to live, Natasha’s face was filled with anxiety as she demanded, "Didn’t you say you were sure Fury wasn’t dead? Can’t you observe the future through time? Millions of lives are at stake. Can’t you generously contribute a little effort?"
Scarface, who had been silently thinking the whole time, suddenly spoke in a calm tone. "Boss, can you help me this once?" After a pause, Scarface looked up at the sky and said in a low voice, "I don’t want to vanish from this world after I die. My family is still waiting for me in Heaven."
Scarface, following me means you’re destined to have a hard time dying in this lifetime. You really don’t need to keep thinking about going to Dragon Heaven after death.
Li Feng fell silent for a while and sighed inwardly. For Steve’s "goodness," which I don’t have, and for your "family"… I suppose this counts as a good deed for the day.
Li Feng silently closed the Portal, then took a divination crystal from his shoulder bag and used it to divine Fury’s location. With a sorrowful expression, he said, "I’m a Dark Mage. Do you know what darkness means? It’s already something that I’m not out destroying the world, and now I have to help you save it. I wonder if my colleagues will laugh at me when they find out."
Scarface flew onto Li Feng’s shoulder and patted her chest. "Whoever dares laugh at Boss, I’ll blast them to death with Dragon Breath."
Li Feng cast Scarface a disdainful glance. "With that little strength of yours? Forget it. Don’t fail to help me and end up giving all your meat to them for stew."
Before long, a mass of mist formed inside the divination crystal under Li Feng’s spell.
Li Feng scratched his head and said uncertainly, "The divination says Fury is hiding inside a dam right now…"
Before Li Feng could finish, he suddenly stopped moving and turned toward the distance while casting a spell to wrap everyone in a shield.
Natasha, with her extensive combat experience, instantly realized there was an enemy. She swiftly drew her gun and followed Li Feng’s gaze. In the distance, a masked man with a silver mechanical left arm was aiming a sniper rifle at them.
"Careful, it’s the Winter Soldier!" As soon as Natasha finished speaking, ripples spread across the shield, and a bullet slowly slid down its surface.
Missiles couldn’t do anything to my shield. What can your lousy sniper rifle do? Li Feng’s eyes rolled as he showed a disdainful expression. He waved his hand and opened a Portal, then shouted at the Winter Soldier on the other side, "You poker-faced brat, you’re in big trouble now, you know that? Don’t think I’ll go easy on you just because you’re Steve’s best buddy."
The Winter Soldier, Bucky, cared about nothing except his mission to kill Steve and Natasha. He directly ignored Li Feng, tossed a grenade through the Portal, and nimbly dodged aside.
Boom!
The explosion sent waves rippling across the shield, but otherwise did absolutely nothing.
Still, Li Feng was unhappy. If not for the fact that you’re Steve’s friend, I’d kill you right now.
"You shouldn’t be called Bucky anymore. Change your name to ‘Dumbass,’" Li Feng mocked. "Don’t you know I have a shield, idiot?" As he spoke, Li Feng walked to the edge of the roof and poked his head out to look down at the street.
Seeing that S.H.I.E.L.D. had nearly sealed off the entire street, Li Feng cracked his knuckles. "Oh? Quite a few punching bags have shown up. Steve, do you need Steve?"
At that moment, Steve was staring passionately at Bucky. He only came back to his senses when Li Feng called out again with emphasis, then asked excitedly, "Austin, are you sure he’s Bucky Barnes, my friend?"
"Of course. Zola experimented on Bucky. That let Bucky survive, but also turned him into the Winter Soldier."
As he spoke, Li Feng snapped his fingers and summoned Steve’s shield. After handing it to Steve, he said, "I know what you’re thinking. Don’t worry, I guarantee no outsiders will disturb your fist-to-fist exchange with Bucky."
Steve took the shield, said, "Thanks," then raised it before him, stepped through the Portal, and shouted, "Bucky, do you still recognize me?"
Natasha gave Li Feng a puzzled look and asked, "How did you know the Winter Soldier was Bucky?"
Li Feng shrugged. "Hydra has many Winter Soldiers, but Bucky is the only one with a mechanical left arm."
"Another question: why did you reveal Bucky’s identity to Steve now?" After a moment of silence, Natasha guessed, "You deliberately let Steve fight Bucky."
Li Feng nodded slightly, admitting Natasha’s guess, but there were some things he did not want to explain.
From the beginning, Li Feng had joined Steve and Natasha’s group because he wanted to find out where Pierce was. Silvert was no longer worth expecting anything from, but Bucky should still know some clues.
But Bucky’s identity was somewhat special. If Li Feng personally captured him, Natasha and Steve would definitely remove his mask afterward. Steve would still recognize Bucky then.
That way, other than gaining Pierce’s exact location, Li Feng would get no additional benefits.
Now that he had pointed out the Winter Soldier’s identity in front of Steve, Steve would definitely be grateful to Li Feng.
Afterward, if Steve restored Bucky’s memories through his own efforts, then there would be nothing to say. But what if Steve asked Li Feng for help?
That would mean Steve owed Li Feng two favors.
He could watch the Captain and Bucky fight passionately while gaining favors in return. This deal was guaranteed profit with no losses.
Thinking of this, Li Feng licked his bloodthirsty lips and asked, "Hydra’s people are about to come up. Should we kill them, or kill them?"
Seeing that Li Feng did not want to explain Bucky’s situation, Natasha said helplessly and speechlessly, "That isn’t a multiple-choice question. Our priority is to find Fury for support, then destroy Hydra’s Project Insight. We shouldn’t waste time fighting here."
As she spoke, Natasha covered her forehead and glanced at Steve. Great. The two of them are already tangled up in battle. It won’t be easy for us to leave now.
Natasha casually tossed Sam Wilson a pistol. "Protect Silvert. Leave the rest to Austin and me."
Li Feng instantly put on his armor and said as he cast a spell, "Sam, take this lump of biohuman and hide in the Mirror Dimension."
The moment he finished speaking, Sam Wilson and Silvert had already been pulled into the Mirror Dimension.
Li Feng rubbed his fists and grinned. "Natasha, hurry up and finish this. I still want to drink beer and watch the show."
Natasha instinctively glanced at Steve and Bucky. Her mouth twitched as she mocked, "I’d rather watch Bucky and Steve team up to beat you."
As Natasha spoke, several fully armed Special Operations Unit members rushed onto the rooftop.
