Can You Take Me with You?
Finger Tiger’s spikes struck General Zod squarely in the forehead. The tremendous force and special material made the blow punch through his skull without any surprise.
Whoosh—!
At that moment, a frigid gale swept through, making Batman’s cape flap loudly behind him while carrying the grim, murderous air of the scene into the distance.
General Zod stared with bloodshot eyes. The ferocity in them made his already grotesque face even more terrifying. A hole had been punched through the top of his head, and the immense force had cracked his skull. It was hard to imagine that an Earthling could accomplish something like that.
Seeing General Zod die with an unwilling expression, his eyes still open, Old Batman slowly straightened up.
"He shouldn’t be getting back up again, right?" Bruce Wayne’s voice was somewhat hoarse.
"He has no signs of life left. Don’t worry, he won’t be getting back up." Zhang Ye walked briskly over to Old Batman’s side and replied in a relaxed tone.
It was no wonder Old Bruce Wayne asked that question. Back in Gotham City, Batman had seen all sorts of powerful villains come back from the dead. So even when facing an alien capable of destroying the world at any moment, Batman remained wary of that possibility.
If General Zod also had some ability to resurrect, or if someone became interested in his corpse, it would definitely not be good news for Earth’s universe.
"I know what you’re thinking. Don’t worry, he’s dead, and on this planet, his corpse will rot like an ordinary person’s before long," Zhang Ye explained.
"Can you guarantee that life on this planet won’t be affected by his corpse?" Batman raised his head, gazing at the magnificent celestial phenomenon that could never be seen on Earth, and asked calmly.
"Relax. This planet’s civilization hasn’t even reached the stage of making fire by rubbing sticks together. By the time these natives develop intelligence, General Zod’s body will have long since become a fossil. As for his armor, nature will have broken it down and reassembled it long ago."
Zhang Ye shrugged and continued.
"I told you, this was a grave I chose especially for him. Naturally, I considered those consequences. What you should be worried about now is the military. After all, aliens invaded Earth and fought superpowered people here. Once something like that gets exposed, you can forget about having a peaceful retirement."
At those words, Old Batman silently turned back and looked deeply at Zhang Ye.
"That doesn’t matter. I don’t want to know how you crossed the universe and arrived on an alien planet in an instant, nor do I want to know how you found this planet so quickly. I only think that compared to Zod, you are more dangerous."
"Haha, perhaps."
Zhang Ye gave a deliberately casual laugh, though inwardly, he sighed helplessly.
Indeed, he might not possess particularly strong combat power right now, but his ability to freely travel through the various universes of the Multiverse alone was enough to make many people wary of him.
What was more, after scanning a universe, the Time Twister could travel freely to any point in time within that universe. No one knew better than Zhang Ye just how terrifying that ability was.
A common man was innocent, but possessing a treasure made him guilty. Mere caution would have been one thing, but if ambitious villains learned about the Time Twister in his possession, it could bring unpredictable danger to the entire Multiverse.
"Don’t worry. After I rest up, I’ll leave this universe tomorrow."
"Zhang, I didn’t mean to drive you away." Old Bruce Wayne hesitated for a moment before slowly speaking.
"I understand, but that was my plan from the start. Now that the General Zod incident is over, there’s no need for me to stay here. Besides, this universe has only just broken free from the shackles of destruction. If people who aren’t from this universe keep staying here, who knows what might happen?"
Realizing that Zhang Ye was giving him an out, Batman went along with it and chose not to expose him. Old Bruce Wayne also hoped that Zhang Ye, Barry Allen, and the others would leave this universe as soon as possible; he simply found it hard to say so outright.
After all, they had fought together as comrades, and Zhang Ye and Pietro had come here to help. Driving them away right after the war ended would be like throwing away the bridge after crossing the river. Old Batman could not bring himself to do something so heartless.
Since Zhang Ye had chosen to leave on his own, Old Batman felt somewhat relieved.
"Do you really not need my Batsuit? I can make one for you based on your physical condition."
Hearing that, Zhang Ye could not help smiling beneath his mask. Had Old Bruce Wayne developed a sense of guilt? That was truly unprecedented.
"No need. I think this trench coat is pretty good. Besides, I’m no superhero. For someone like me, who goes with the flow, the more ordinary I am, the better. The less attention I draw, the better."
Old Batman withdrew his gaze, paused, and nodded faintly.
"True."
By the time everyone returned to the Batcave, it was already late at night. Pietro, Barry Allen, and the others laughed and played around. After resolving such a huge problem, everyone’s tightly wound nerves finally relaxed.
Through this incident, Barry Allen had also realized his mistake. He decided to return to the past and restore history. This time, he would not change anything or alert anyone.
They said a broken mirror could never be made whole again, but Barry Allen had decided to do everything he could to repair it and return the historical timeline to the course of his original universe.
Zhang Ye supported this. At the end of the Flash movie from his previous life, after Barry Allen had destroyed that universe, he actually changed the timeline once again. This time, he did not save his mother, but helped his father find evidence that cleared his name.
That was just ridiculous.
After going through so much, the Flash in that movie had not improved at all.
As for Supergirl Kara, Zhang Ye took her specifically to see General Zod’s corpse.
Under the setting sun, Kara calmly watched General Zod’s grave. There was no longer any negative emotion in her eyes. Instead, they had become extraordinarily calm, as though she had entered the emptiness that followed revenge.
"You don’t blame me for not letting you kill him yourself to avenge your brother, do you?"
Zhang Ye stood beside Kara holding a large black umbrella, shielding her from the light of the Red Sun.
At that, Kara gently shook her head.
"No. If it weren’t for you, I’m afraid I would never have been able to take revenge in my life. General Zod was born to fight, written into his Kryptonian genes, while I was merely a scientist. So even if we were in the same condition, I definitely would not have been his opponent."
Zhang Ye smiled but said nothing.
In truth, after receiving Krypton’s central codex, Kara’s genetic makeup had already undergone earth-shattering changes. She simply needed time to grow, just like Superman.
"I heard you’re leaving tomorrow?"
Suddenly, Kara broke the silence.
"Ah, yes."
Upon hearing Zhang Ye’s answer, Kara turned to meet his gaze and asked,
"Can you take me with you?"
