Captain America’s Solo Show
"Steve, you’ve worked hard these past few days, traveling to so many places to campaign." Alexander gazed at his most prized creation with a beaming smile.
"Physically, it hasn’t been that exhausting. Training is much more tiring than this. But mentally, I feel exhausted. I always feel like something isn’t quite right." Steve furrowed his brows, looking deep in thought.
Alexander hurriedly interrupted his thoughts with a smile, reached out to put an arm around his shoulder, and said, "That’s perfectly normal. After all, you’re a warrior by origin, and a powerful super soldier at that. Asking you to run for president was already asking the impossible. Of course you’d feel that something was off."
He pushed Steve down onto the sofa and personally poured him a cup of coffee.
"But it’s all for Hydra. You’ll have to work hard for a little longer. The election is drawing near. Once you become president, many things can be handed over to your staff team. You won’t have to travel around campaigning anymore, and it won’t be so exhausting."
Steve nodded, took a sip of coffee, and asked, "Why did you suddenly call me back? I still had several speeches scheduled in the South, but they were all canceled."
"Some business figures here in New York have prepared a fundraising dinner. It’s relatively more important, so we specifically called you back. Besides, because of what happened in Washington, New York’s citizens are all very uneasy. We’ve arranged a public speech for you so you can reassure everyone."
Steve shrugged. "All right, no problem. I feel like I’m used to doing this now."
"The staff team will prepare the speech as usual. You can improvise freely based on it. I have to say, Steve, you have tremendous charisma as a leader. I’ve heard several of your improvised speeches, and they’re countless times better than the dry wording written in the script."
"Thanks for the compliment. I only said exactly what I was thinking."
After watching Captain America leave, the office door beside them opened, and John Garrett walked out.
"Why didn’t you tell him the truth about the plan?"
"He’s Captain America. His nature conflicts with this plan. Although our brainwashing technology appears flawless, I’m not sure whether these things might awaken his true nature. After being exposed to darkness for long enough, perhaps he’ll be dyed black, but there’s also a chance he’ll be stimulated into recovering his memories!"
"If we can avoid the risk, why would we deliberately cause ourselves trouble? Whether he knows about this plan or not won’t affect the final outcome, will it?"
John nodded in agreement. "That’s right. Your concern is justified. There’s no need for him to know so much. He only needs to fulfill his duty as a tool."
That afternoon, under the arrangements of Steve’s campaign team, Steve arrived at Central Park and gave a speech to the citizens there. Dressed in Captain America’s uniform and standing on the podium, he whipped the citizens who had come to listen into a frenzy. He had a crowd of people cheering excitedly, causing them to completely forget the gloom that had shrouded their hearts recently.
The media van accompanying him nearby kept its cameras trained on Steve and was ready at all times to deal with "unexpected incidents."
Suddenly, in the distance behind Steve, a blue pillar of light shot into the sky, tearing open the heavens and opening the gate of demons. Dense swarms of aliens poured out, charging in every direction and unleashing a devastating barrage.
The people below erupted in an uproar, throwing Steve’s speech into disarray.
He turned around and saw the large numbers of aliens descending from the sky. His heart trembled, and he instinctively reached back and removed his shield.
"Friends, this speech is coming to an end. Please leave in an orderly fashion. Don’t panic, and be careful not to trample one another. Please believe that I will always stand with you. God bless America!"
After Captain America shouted the slogan, he turned around, leaped off the platform, and charged toward the area beneath the pillar of light.
Someone nearby had already brought over the prepared armor. "Captain, this is the Strong Magnetic Armor prepared especially for you. Once you put it on, you’ll be able to unleash even greater power."
Captain America took it, put it around his neck, and activated it. A suit of armor with an unmistakable Captain America style appeared on his body.
They prepared this far too thoroughly!
He felt slightly puzzled, but the situation left him no time to think. He immediately leaped into the air and flew straight toward the spatial portal in the sky that was spewing out troops.
His sidekick, Thor Peter, followed close behind, wanting to fight alongside him.
But this performance was Captain America’s solo show. How could Peter be allowed to steal Captain America’s spotlight? So the staff members pulled him away and assigned him to escort the citizens of Central Park out in an orderly fashion.
Although Peter wanted to charge alongside his idol, he was a kind and good-hearted child who understood priorities. Thus, he readily accepted the "heavy responsibility" of protecting the citizens.
As the actors took their positions, the various departments of S.H.I.E.L.D. also began to operate.
The media personnel began capturing the presidential candidate’s heroic battle from every angle, while some Magnetic Field Warriors started paying attention to anyone who might steal the spotlight. They kept watch over media outlets filming others and also had to be wary of citizens who didn’t know their own limits and were recording random videos with their phones…
Meanwhile, Steve was in charge of going on a rampage in the sky, single-handedly pummeling hordes of aliens!
With the armor’s assistance, the power of his Magnetic Field Rotation: Twentieth Heaven was now enough to wipe out the entire Chitauri fleet. It would only take a little more time.
He swept back and forth across the sky, smashing one warship apart with a punch and kicking away entire groups at a time. Before long, he had fought his way to the portal. Then he blocked the portal and began slaughtering the aliens.
No one had anticipated this situation beforehand, but it wasn’t a bad thing for the campaign plan. The stronger the president was, the greater the people’s sense of security would be!
At this point, some of the other Magnetic Field Warriors also reacted and hurried over to help.
Since the plan had already changed, the staff team on-site consulted their superiors and decided to give these later-arriving supporting characters some screen time. Thus, the other media outlets that had originally been slated for removal preserved their cameras without knowing why.
The overall battlefield therefore became a scene in which Captain America slaughtered his way through every direction, single-handedly blocking the portal in the sky and buying time for his comrades below to wipe out the aliens’ vanguard.
Although there was a huge disparity in strength between the two sides, there were simply too many Chitauri, and they would never stop fighting as long as their mothership remained intact. Yet Captain America was blocking the portal to prevent the aliens from entering, leaving the Chitauri mothership far away in space untouched.
This situation continued until the Chitauri vanguard had been completely wiped out. With a single command, Captain America led the many Magnetic Field Warriors in a counterattack. They pushed all the way back and completely annihilated the entire Chitauri fleet. The group even dragged the mothership’s wreckage back as spoils of war.
When the chief director saw that things had progressed far enough, he quietly pressed the button in his pocket. The spatial portal device suddenly short-circuited as though its energy had overloaded. With its energy supply cut off, the Tesseract also fell silent.
The blue pillar of energy flickered twice before going out, and the wound in the sky slowly healed on its own.
As Captain America led the team to a successful landing, he raised his arms and shouted in front of a crowd of media representatives, "God bless America!"
The performance was a complete success!
