The Alien Invasion That Made a Lot of Noise but Delivered Little
The moment the space portal opened, Zhan Liu knew about it.
At first, he was rather surprised.
Loki was not an idiot. After spending so long on Earth, he should certainly have understood its actual strength. So how had he dared to bring the Chitauri here?
Could this be Marvel’s destiny?
Was opening the space portal predestined?
The world of Marvel also followed the doctrine of fate.
Take Peter Parker, for example. Once he was chosen by the Spider Totem, it was destined that he would become Spider-Man. Even if he had not been bitten by a spider, he would inevitably have become Spider-Man for some other reason in the future.
But no matter how he became Spider-Man, he would ultimately be a failed man. His parents would die, and the people he loved would perish one after another. Whether it was Uncle Ben, who raised him, or his girlfriends in the various versions of his story, none of them would have a good ending.
That was fate, and it could not be changed!
Iron Man’s destiny, meanwhile, was to be "cursed by knowledge." If he did not work hard on research, he would be powerless when facing future crises. If he did work hard on research, the advanced products he developed would eventually evolve into crises.
Thor’s destiny was to personally destroy the divine realm and bring Ragnarok to Asgard. There was also a prophecy that Thor would perish together with Jormungandr, the World Serpent.
Doctor Banner’s destiny was Hulk. He and Hulk were one person, and they could never be separated.
Captain America’s destiny was to love and fight Bucky, forever unable to end up with Peggy Carter.
There were many other such fates, such as Ancient One faking her death to escape her debts and Thanos snapping his fingers.
Since this world had so many destinies, an alien invasion of Earth was not so difficult to accept.
Zhan Liu turned his head and glanced at the distant sky. Alien warships poured out of the space portal like dumplings being dropped into a pot.
However, Zhan Liu had no intention of going over to join the battle. He did not want to move!
Damn alien invasion. What does it have to do with me?
Americans are being killed. What does that have to do with me?
I’m a War God, not some guard dog raised by you Americans!
You worship me? That’s only right!
You want me to do something? That’s because I think highly of you!
You beg me to do something, but whether I do it or not depends on my mood!
Thus, while the Magnetic Field Warriors were all resisting the alien invasion, Zhan Liu watched the spectacle from inside the Martial Arts School, showing no intention of joining in.
The super heroes on Earth who could not use Magnetic Field Rotation or Current Drive could only be considered third-rate trash. They could not survive at all.
The overall strength of Earth had advanced by leaps and bounds.
This defense against the alien invasion was a matter of righteousness, so all the super heroes leaped into action. Even the super villains were willing to come out and make their presence felt, while conveniently seizing some alien spacecraft or weapons to benefit themselves.
In particular, the underground gangs of New York, actually controlled by the Martial Arts School’s disciples, acted as groups to conduct sweeps and clearances. They harvested the aliens in batches like reaping chives, swallowing up every alien spacecraft that entered their territory.
Their greedy appearance made everyone stare in disapproval.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who had been watching the progress of the incident from the sidelines were secretly relieved. Fortunately, they had prepared in advance and had Captain America begin the counterattack immediately. Otherwise, if the battle had been allowed to develop freely, this group of gang members might have stolen all the glory.
Now that they had secured the advantage of striking first, all the media had captured Captain America leading the Magnetic Field Warriors in charging the Chitauri first. Any later footage of those other groups would only make the audience despise them, seeing them as fence-sitters who had followed behind Captain America to pick up scraps.
Facing these ferocious Magnetic Field Warriors, the Chitauri King finally understood what Loki had meant earlier. Unfortunately, he no longer had any chance to take revenge on Loki.
But as the king of the Chitauri, even if he died, he absolutely would not let that bastard Loki off easily. Before his warship was captured, he sent a message to Thanos.
The Chitauri King believed that no matter how powerful Earth was, it would still be doomed when facing Thanos, the ruler of the universe. Loki, who had betrayed Thanos, would naturally receive the punishment he deserved as well.
Several hours later, Earth’s defense battle finally ended.
The Chitauri invasion had made a lot of noise but delivered little. The Magnetic Field Warriors, led by Captain America, had beaten them senseless. The entire army had been wiped out, and even the mothership had been dragged back as spoils of war.
The Chitauri’s military strength was also considerably greater than in the movie. At the very least, their soldiers could not be injured by Earth’s firearms and artillery, truly displaying the technological standard expected of a major power that dominated the universe.
The reason they had lost was entirely that the Magnetic Field Warriors were stronger. It was not a fault of their tactics!
No one had ever doubted this. Victory was only natural; defeat was what raised questions. Even fewer people knew that everything had actually been arranged by a director behind the scenes.
Without a doubt, Captain America had benefited the most from this incident.
During the battle, he had led from the front and charged first. Everyone present had seen his heroic figure clearly. Afterward, he had moved through the city, using his immense strength to help rescue workers clear fallen rubble and save victims buried beneath collapsed buildings.
All of this was filmed on cell phones by "passing Captain America fans" and uploaded to the internet. More Captain America fans eagerly reposted and liked the footage, and its spread was far faster than that of any celebrity.
According to data released by an American commercial statistics company, Steve Rogers’s approval rating had completely overwhelmed that of his competitors. The next President of the United States had already been decided beyond any suspense.
Without a doubt, the unluckiest person in this incident was Skye, who had been branded an alien lackey and the culprit behind the New York incident.
She had originally been chosen as S.H.I.E.L.D.’s scapegoat. The moment she revealed her identity and tried to obtain information about her parents from S.H.I.E.L.D. through normal channels, this outcome had already been destined.
John Garrett had easily fabricated the information she wanted to know, then made her go through immense trouble to obtain it herself through hacking. After that, he had used various methods to force her onto the path S.H.I.E.L.D. wanted her to take.
What happened afterward was simple. The moment she decided to hijack the van carrying the space portal activation device, everything had already fallen into place.
Although she had run back halfway through and even tried to destroy the space portal, causing a minor flaw in the plan, all the personnel executing the operation were their own people, and there had been no cameras recording the scene. The problems were not serious.
By now, this foolish girl was probably still being kept in the dark, completely unaware that everything had been deliberately arranged.
