Chapter 3: Suppressing wages? There is no such thing.
“Salary, what salary?”
Liu Cheng feigned ignorance, then frantically winked at Wei Yan.
He had intentionally withheld the salaries, planning to slip away after the company handover was complete.
But he hadn't expected to be exposed before the handover even began.
He could only hope Wei Yan understood his meaning and would skip this matter for now.
Tang Qiu also perked up her ears, thinking, 'Could it be that salaries really haven't been paid yet? It seems I was right to come along.'
The man in the white shirt spoke again.
“It's the employees' salaries for this month. Now that the company has been sold, who will pay this month's salaries?”
Liu Cheng's expression changed. He hadn't expected Wei Yan to blurt it out so directly.
Just as he was about to come up with an excuse to gloss over it, Tang Qiu stepped forward and said sternly,
“Mr. Liu, salaries should rightfully be paid by you before the contract is signed.”
“If you try to renege, I believe as a lawyer, you might lose even more.”
After speaking,
Tang Qiu gently pushed up her rimless glasses on her nose, her gaze filled with confidence.
She wasn't exaggerating; as an elite lawyer, she was perfectly capable of doing everything she had just said.
“This….”
Liu Cheng wanted to argue, but feeling Tang Qiu's imposing presence, he was somewhat worried. After all, this woman was a lawyer, and getting involved in a lawsuit over salaries would be more trouble than it was worth.
After some thought,
He made up his mind and reluctantly looked at Chen Mo, saying,
“Mr. Chen, the salary issue was my oversight. Don't worry, I will settle the employees' salaries as soon as possible.”
Chen Mo chuckled slightly upon hearing this. Salaries were indeed a good way to spend money, but he had understood the conversation between these few people.
That Liu Cheng was trying to make him a scapegoat.
He wanted to take his money and then run off, leaving him to pay the overdue salaries.
Well, there was nothing more to say then.
He wanted to spend the system's funds quickly, but he also didn't like being treated like a fool.
However, if this month's salaries couldn't be paid, he could pay next month's salaries!
Hmm!
This was a good idea.
Tang Qiu noticed Chen Mo's gaze, and the curve of her lips deepened.
Was he moved?
“Mr. Chen, no need to thank me. This salary matter is also considered my oversight.”
“Lawyer Tang, you are thoughtful.”
Wei Yan had been standing by, listening to their conversation, and now finally understood that Chen Mo was the boss who bought the company.
He just hadn't expected him to be so young, looking only in his early twenties.
But could someone so young really manage the company well?
Wei Yan couldn't help but murmur to himself, but the salary matter had been clarified.
Thinking this,
He turned to the few people waiting in the hall and said,
“You all heard what was just said, right? Mr. Liu will pay the salaries. Are you relieved now?”
In the hall,
Several waiting employees exchanged glances, their worried expressions instantly dissipating. They silently left through the side door.
Their only concern was getting paid. Now that they had received a promise, there was no reason for them to stay.
However, among that group of employees, one employee remained motionless, still standing in place.
Wei Yan looked at the person who stayed behind, frowning. He wondered what this guy was up to now.
“Li Shen, do you still need something?”
“I'd like to ask, when will we get paid?”
Li Shen exhaled and stepped forward, saying.
He was used to bosses making empty promises. They would say they'd pay, but there was no telling when it would actually happen.
Moreover, the company had already been sold to a new boss. If Liu Cheng went back on his word afterward, he wouldn't even be able to find him. What could he do if he didn't get paid then?
So, he wanted to ask for clarification.
As for whether he would offend the boss, he was already prepared to be fired anyway, so why would he think so much?
“Oh, little Shen, about the salaries, we'll pay you in a couple of days.”
Liu Cheng looked at Li Shen, who had stepped forward, with a smile on his face, and said meaningfully.
“Mr. Liu, didn't I just transfer you 400,000 for the acquisition? I think that 400,000 should be enough. You might as well just settle the salaries with that.”
Chen Mo walked over with a smile.
He dared to treat me like a fool? Today, I'm going to make you bleed a little.
“This….”
Liu Cheng looked troubled.
“Mr. Liu, if you delay paying employee salaries and it goes to labor arbitration, you might have to pay even more in compensation.”
Tang Qiu spoke at the opportune moment. She strongly disliked bosses who delayed salary payments, especially when they had the money.
Liu Cheng's face darkened upon hearing this. After a long pause, he slowly said,
“Then we'll settle the salaries today.”
He said it, but his heart ached. The company had over a dozen employees, and a month's wages would be 80,000-90,000.
“Did you hear that? Mr. Liu said he'll settle the employees' salaries today. Hurry up and go notify the other employees.”
Chen Mo urged Li Shen, who was standing still.
“Ah!”
“I'm going now.”
Li Shen subconsciously responded, then reacted and quickly ran towards the workshop.
Seeing that Li Shen had gone to notify the other employees, Chen Mo turned to the gloomy-faced Liu Cheng and asked with a smile,
“Mr. Liu, where should we pay?”
Liu Cheng's mouth twitched. He knew he had no choice but to pay the salaries today, and said expressionlessly,
“To my office.”
With that, he walked off in one direction by himself, having completely lost his previous enthusiasm for Chen Mo and Tang Qiu.
Chen Mo didn't mind and leisurely followed behind.
A while later,
A group of employees were already lined up outside the office door.
Inside the office,
Liu Cheng sat at the desk, with an attendance book and a calculator on it.
And just in front of Liu Cheng's desk, there was a smaller square table, which, judging by the layout, must have been moved in later.
Chen Mo sat in front of the small square table, also holding an attendance book and a calculator.
Tang Qiu sat to the side of the square table, looking at Chen Mo with a puzzled expression.
“What are we doing here?”
After entering the office, Chen Mo had asked for an extra table to be added to the side, and also for a calculator.
She really couldn't understand the purpose of Chen Mo doing this.
“Paying salaries!”
Chen Mo said as if it were the most obvious thing.
“Paying salaries?”
“Isn't Liu Cheng paying?”
Tang Qiu became even more confused by Chen Mo's answer.
“Oh! He's paying for this month, and I'm paying for next month.”
Chen Mo said lightly.
Next month?
Tang Qiu seemed not to have reacted yet.
“Next month hasn't even started yet, how can we pay salaries?”
