Chapter 39: So It Was This Guy
After Supervisor Qi Bu left.
Wang Yang stared at his computer screen, his mind wandering.
Chen Jun looked at Wang Yang and sighed. He knew that no matter how much he said, it would be useless. The best way was for him to hit a few walls; only after getting bruised and battered would he slowly understand.
Bzz, bzz…
The phone on the desk suddenly vibrated and rang.
Wang Yang snapped back to reality, glanced at the caller ID, and saw it was Assistant Shen calling.
Could there be some problem with the renovation over there?
Thinking of this, he hurriedly answered the phone.
Regardless, this was his first order, and he dared not be careless.
"Hello, Assistant Shen, has something gone wrong with the renovation?"
"Oh! It's not that there's a problem with the renovation!"
…
"I understand. I'll go over there tomorrow."
"Good!"
He hung up the phone.
Wang Yang slowly looked up at Chen Jun, who hadn't left yet, and spoke softly.
"The Garment factory called and said they have an employee dormitory and an office that need renovating. They want me to go over tomorrow to take measurements."
"They called you directly instead of looking for someone on a renovation website?"
Chen Jun asked a key question. If the other party had reached out to Wang Yang directly, then Wang Yang was likely the only one being considered for this job. As long as his design and budget met their expectations, the deal was basically as good as done.
He had encountered such orders before; they were often from a previous client who trusted him deeply and then introduced him to a friend.
But such cases were rare; he might not even encounter one a year.
Could Wang Yang have encountered this kind of situation on his very first order?
Chen Jun's gaze toward Wang Yang gradually became filled with a bit of envy. Truth be told, this guy really had good luck.
"I don't know."
Wang Yang shook his head. He hadn't even thought about this question, so naturally, he hadn't thought to ask it.
"You'll know when you go tomorrow. The chances that they called you specifically and are only considering you are very high. Seize this opportunity; this is very likely to be your second order."
Chen Jun patted Wang Yang on the shoulder, his tone tinged with a hint of envy.
After saying this, without waiting for Wang Yang to respond, he turned and left.
…
Night.
Jiangcheng University,
Girls' dormitory.
"Rou Rou, is that all you do all day?"
Zhang Lan sat cross-legged on the bed, holding a mirror in one hand to remove her makeup, and said in surprise.
She had assumed that since Shen Rou's salary had increased to 8,000 in such a short time, her workload would be massive. She hadn't expected it to just involve following the boss around and signing a few contracts.
"That's all there is. Even if I wanted to find something to do, I can't."
Shen Rou lay on the desk, looking distressed.
Over these past few days, she had looked up a lot of information on being an assistant and learned many things, but in the end, she realized she couldn't use any of it at the company.
At first, it was fine; she was responsible for some banking matters, insurance, and tax payments.
But once the finance, cashier, and HR staff were hired, she didn't even need to handle those things anymore.
Yet even so, Boss Chen still gave her a raise.
No matter how she thought about it, she felt a bit uneasy.
"That's true. How much work can there be in a small Garment factory? It's normal that you can't find anything to do."
"I suddenly envy your job. You don't have to do anything and get such a high salary. How about I come hang out with you?"
Zhang Lan put away her mirror, showing an envious expression.
"What, you're not planning to become a singing star anymore?"
Shen Rou rolled her eyes at Zhang Lan. Her roommate had always had a dream of becoming a singing star; whenever there was a music talent show, she would actively participate.
She didn't believe the other girl would give up just like that.
"Of course I won't give up. I'm going to be a big singing star in the future."
Zhang Lan tilted her head up and said confidently.
Then, as if remembering something, she looked at Shen Rou and said.
"I remember I watched a drama before where the assistant took care of everything for the boss, from his clothes and food to his travel, and even picked out suitable outfits and matched his ties."
"And in that drama, the assistant ended up with the boss in the end."
"Why don't you try it too? Didn't you say your boss is young and handsome? If it works out, you can become a rich wife directly and won't have to work hard anymore."
The more Zhang Lan spoke, the more excited she became, finally showing a gossipy expression.
"You're asking for a beating, aren't you?"
Shen Rou, shy and angry, grabbed a small object from the table and threw it at Zhang Lan, but she quickly calmed down.
She remembered that when she was looking up information about being an assistant a couple of days ago, there seemed to be similar descriptions.
After thinking for a moment, she looked at Zhang Lan.
"What's the name of that drama?"
…
"Hello, Boss Chen!"
Inside the cafeteria,
Chef Wang Maonian, who was directing the renovation, saw Chen Mo enter and hurriedly came over to greet him.
"Mm, go back to what you were doing. I'm just here to take a look."
Chen Mo looked at Wang Maonian, who had come to greet him, and nodded.
He arrived at the company this morning and, feeling like there wasn't much to do, came over to check on the renovation progress.
Also, the person scheduled to come for measurements today should be arriving soon, so he could wait here as well. After all, the newly rented workshop was just behind the cafeteria, not far away.
"Then Boss Chen, please take a look around. If you need anything, just call me."
Wang Maonian said respectfully.
"Mm!"
Chen Mo nodded and was about to go to the second floor to take a look, but his gaze lingered on Wang Maonian's face.
"Boss Chen, is there anything else?"
Wang Maonian noticed Chen Mo's gaze and felt a wave of nervousness.
"A while ago, you went to the company team-building event, right?"
Chen Mo asked out of the blue.
Hearing that Boss Chen was only asking about this, Wang Maonian's nervousness instantly dissipated, and he said with a smile.
"I went. Boss Chen, I even toasted you."
"It was you!"
Chen Mo gave Wang Maonian a meaningful look. He had said he always felt this person in front of him was familiar; it turned out that the last glass of alcohol that made him drunk was toasted by this guy.
At the time, he hadn't wanted to drink anymore.
It was this guy who said things like, "Boss Chen, you've spent so much money; I can't believe you were willing to spend so much on an employee gathering…" and other flattering and respectful remarks.
He couldn't stand it, so he drank another glass.
As a result, that one glass led to him being helped home.
He had finally found the culprit.
"Boss Chen, you still remember me!"
Wang Maonian was flattered, not expecting Boss Chen to still have an impression of him.
"Of course I remember!"
Chen Mo said, enunciating each word clearly, while calculating how to get his revenge.
Firing him wouldn't work.
Deducting his salary? Is that punishing myself?
That's tricky!
"Boss Chen, is there a problem?"
Wang Maonian looked at Boss Chen, who had a distressed expression, and asked tentatively.
"Nothing!"
Chen Mo shook his head, thinking, "I'm wondering how to punish you, would I tell you?"
"Master Wang, I've bought the things. You said it wasn't far, but after running for a bit, I'm exhausted."
Just then, a man of a similar age to Wang Maonian ran in carrying a bag of items, panting.
"It's because we don't exercise enough. I'm the same; I get exhausted after running for a bit. Thank you for your hard work."
Wang Maonian took the bag from the man and thanked him.
Chen Mo had been listening to the entire conversation between the two from the side.
His eyes gradually lit up; it seemed he had found a way to punish him.
