Chapter 54: Such a Big Boss Like President Chen, Why Does He Live in Such an Old House?
"Hurry up, help me support his right side."
A taxi stopped by the side of the road.
Shen Rou struggled to help Chen Mo out of the car, but since Chen Mo's entire weight was leaning on her, she couldn't hold on for much longer and hurriedly called Zhang Lan over.
"I'm coming, which way do we go?"
Zhang Lan hurried to the other side and helped support him.
"Head that way."
Shen Rou took out her phone, glanced at the location Yang Dahai had sent, and pointed in that direction.
"I'm telling you, why did you have to go and drink for no reason!"
"How was I supposed to know his tolerance was so low? It was less than two bottles of fruit beer! This is the first time I've ever seen someone get drunk on two bottles of fruit beer."
Zhang Lan looked innocent.
She had wanted to get Chen Mo drunk, but not like this.
If she had known, she would have just ordered soft drinks.
It was a waste of the meat rolls in the pot; they hadn't even eaten a few bites before Chen Mo got drunk.
…
"Assistant Shen, what happened?"
Seeing Chen Mo being supported by Shen Rou and another girl as they walked over, Yang Dahai hurried to meet them.
He had received a call from Shen Rou a short while ago asking for the location of President Chen. At the time, he hadn't thought much of it, assuming she needed to find President Chen to handle work matters.
So, he had simply sent over the location and building number of President Chen.
But he hadn't expected that just as he was heading out to the market to buy some groceries, he would run into President Chen being supported by Shen Rou and another young woman at the staircase.
"Brother Yang, President Chen drank too much."
Seeing Yang Dahai, Shen Rou said with a guilty conscience.
"Here, let me take him. Climbing the stairs is really tough."
Hearing this, Yang Dahai let out a sigh of relief—it was just that he'd had too much to drink—and immediately stepped forward to take Chen Mo from them.
When they reached the third floor, he knocked hard on the door.
"Old woman, open the door."
"What's with all the knocking? Didn't I tell you to go buy groceries? Why are you back so soon?"
The door didn't open, but her voice came from inside.
"President Chen had too much to drink. Can you make some hangover soup?"
Once the door opened, Yang Dahai pointed to Chen Mo on his shoulder and said.
"Why did President Chen get drunk again? Didn't we tell him not to drink since his tolerance is so low?"
"You take President Chen back first. I'll bring the soup over once it's ready."
Dong Hong glanced at the unconscious President Chen, hurried back inside, and as the clattering sounds came from within, it seemed she had already started chopping ingredients and making the soup.
Shen Rou heard Dong Hong's words and lowered her head even further in shame.
It was all because of her that President Chen had gotten this drunk.
"Assistant Shen, check the pockets of President Chen for his house keys."
Yang Dahai, struggling to help Chen Mo up to the fourth floor, said to Shen Rou, who was following behind.
Both his hands were busy supporting Chen Mo, so he couldn't spare a hand to look for the keys.
"Ah, okay."
Shen Rou replied and hurriedly started searching Chen Mo's clothes.
She found the keys and opened the door.
Yang Dahai, familiar with the place, helped Chen Mo onto the bed and said to Shen Rou and the other girl.
"Alright, sorry to trouble you two to look after him. I'm going down to see if the hangover soup is ready."
"Okay, Uncle Yang."
Shen Rou nodded quickly.
After Yang Dahai left, Zhang Lan asked curiously.
"You know them?"
"Uncle Yang is the driver for Chen Mo, and Auntie Dong is the cook at the company cafeteria."
Shen Rou explained.
"What kind of relationship does Chen Mo have with them? They seem really close, and they even live on floors right above and below each other."
"I don't think there's any special relationship."
Shen Rou shook her head, but she remembered the scene when Uncle Yang had his interview—they didn't seem to know each other at all.
As for why they lived on floors above and below each other, it was probably just a coincidence.
"Oh."
Zhang Lan replied and then started looking around the apartment.
"Hey, why are you wandering around? This isn't our home."
Seeing Zhang Lan walking around, Shen Rou hurried to stop her.
"I'm just curious about what kind of place a big boss lives in."
"But looking at it now, it seems quite ordinary."
Zhang Lan looked at the very old-fashioned decor and the chairs that looked like they had been used for who knows how many years.
That shouldn't be right.
Based on Shen Rou's description, Chen Mo should be very wealthy. Why does he live in such a shabby place?
"Could it be that he's like you? Reluctant to spend money on himself?"
Zhang Lan's eyes suddenly lit up as she looked at Shen Rou.
"Ah! No way."
"Chen Mo is usually very generous when it comes to spending money on his employees."
Shen Rou subconsciously denied it. She was by the side of Chen Mo every day, and she knew how much money he spent on his employees daily.
"I'm talking about spending money on himself."
"Just like you—you spend all the money you earn on the orphanage, but you're reluctant to spend it on yourself."
"Otherwise, how do you explain that Chen Mo is clearly so rich, yet he still lives in such a shabby place?"
Zhang Lan propped her chin in her hand and analyzed it as if it were a serious matter.
"President Chen is like me?"
Shen Rou exclaimed in surprise. She looked at the shabbily decorated room and felt that the analysis of Zhang Lan didn't seem to have any flaws.
So President Chen was this great—living in a shabby room himself, yet insisting that the employee dormitories have the best renovations.
Looking at Chen Mo lying on the bed, the eyes of Shen Rou were filled with admiration.
…
"Why did you come back down?"
Seeing Yang Dahai return, Dong Hong asked in surprise.
"I asked Assistant Shen to help take care of him, and I came back to see if the hangover soup was ready."
Yang Dahai walked into the kitchen and said casually.
"You, you're so oblivious."
Dong Hong looked at Yang Dahai, looking exasperated.
"How am I being oblivious again?"
Yang Dahai scratched his head, confused.
"Why don't you think about it? Assistant Shen already works with Xiao Chen; she's already got the advantage of proximity."
"And now you're asking Assistant Shen to take care of Xiao Chen. If they spend more time together, what if they develop feelings for each other?"
Dong Hong muttered as she stirred the soup.
"Wouldn't it be good if they developed feelings? I think Assistant Shen and Xiao Chen are quite a good match."
Yang Dahai looked even more confused.
"Oh, you're going to be the death of me."
"I was planning on introducing Yaoyao to Chen Mo."
Dong Hong pointed the ladle at Yang Dahai, thought about it for a moment, then put the ladle down and just pushed Yang Dahai aside.
"Move aside, you're in the way."
"Are you angry? I want to introduce our daughter to Xiao Chen too, but no matter how many times you call Yaoyao, she won't come back. There's nothing we can do."
"You can't just stop other people from getting close to Xiao Chen; that wouldn't be fair to Xiao Chen either."
"Let the young people interact naturally. Whether they end up together is up to them; let's not interfere."
Yang Dahai smiled ingratiatingly and tried to persuade her.
Upon hearing this, Dong Hong rolled her eyes at Yang Dahai.
"You're talking about fairness? Back when you were courting me, you secretly brought people to beat up my other suitors. How was that fair?"
