Chapter 55: Heading to the Orphanage, The Other Side of Shen Rou
"You know about this!"
Yang Dahai paused, then gave an awkward smile.
"I do. That person you beat up secretly found me and complained."
"I went too easy on him if he still dares to come to you."
Yang Dahai snorted coldly, then looked at Dong Hong curiously.
"Since you knew about this, why did you still choose me in the end?"
"I'm not telling you."
"Just tell me."
"You really want to know?"
"Yeah!"
"I decided to choose you precisely because I knew you beat him up. At the time, I thought you were really manly, in a sly, mischievous way."
As Dong Hong spoke, she felt a bit embarrassed and lowered her head.
"Hehehe, if I'd known, I would have beaten him up sooner."
Yang Dahai looked at Dong Hong and chuckled foolishly.
"Silly!"
Dong Hong rolled her eyes at him and continued to simmer the soup.
Not long after, the hangover soup was ready, and she had Yang Dahai take it upstairs.
Although she said she couldn't let Shen Rou take care of Chen Mo, she couldn't bring herself to actually do anything about it.
…
"Zhang Lan, don't you have to work tomorrow? Leave this to me, you go back and get some rest."
After feeding Chen Mo the hangover soup, Shen Rou stood up and said to Zhang Lan.
"Are you sure you can manage alone? If not, I can take a day off."
Zhang Lan said, looking a bit worried.
"Why wouldn't I be able to? Just go back first."
"Fine, why does it feel like you're shooing me away? Have our vows of eternal love been fed to the dogs?"
Zhang Lan put on a heartbroken expression.
"You're asking for a beating, aren't you!"
Shen Rou made a gesture to hit her, and Zhang Lan turned and ran out of the Room.
Seeing Zhang Lan leave, Shen Rou helplessly returned to the Room.
She pulled up a chair and sat by Chen Mo's bedside.
…
Early the next morning, Chen Mo rubbed his slightly throbbing head and slowly sat up.
But just as he sat halfway up, he felt the quilt being weighed down by something.
He turned his head to look at the spot, only to find Shen Rou sleeping by his bedside.
"Why is she here?"
Chen Mo looked confused, but soon recalled the scene of eating hotpot yesterday.
He had drunk too much fruit beer. Wasn't it supposed to be non-alcoholic?
As expected, you can't trust what women say.
Chen Mo complained inwardly, but he couldn't entirely blame them. He felt the fruit beer tasted quite good, so he couldn't help but drink a bit more.
"You're awake."
Sensing movement, Shen Rou rubbed her eyes and looked at Chen Mo with surprise.
Chen Mo nodded, looked at Shen Rou, and thanked her softly.
"Yeah, thank you for looking after me all night."
Seeing her sleeping by the bedside, it was obvious she had been watching over him all night.
"It's nothing. It's all my fault; I shouldn't have let you drink!"
"Zhang Lan didn't do it on purpose either."
Shen Rou hurriedly waved her hands and said.
Knock, knock, knock…
Just as Chen Mo was about to say something else, the door was knocked.
"I'll get the door."
Hearing the knocking, Shen Rou ran out first.
"You must be Sister Shen, right? Mom made some breakfast and asked me to bring it over."
Shen Rou opened the door and saw a little girl carrying a bag, speaking in a milky, childish voice.
She looked extremely adorable.
"Who is your mom?"
"My mom is Dong Hong, she lives downstairs."
Yang Duoduo pointed downstairs and said.
Upon hearing this, Shen Rou finally knew who had sent the breakfast.
Looking at Yang Duoduo's cute appearance, Shen Rou couldn't help but think of the children at the orphanage, and she reached out to pat her little head.
"Thank you! What is your name?"
"My name is Yang Duoduo. Sister, please take the breakfast; I have to go back now."
After saying that, Yang Duoduo handed the bag to Shen Rou and ran downstairs quickly.
…
"Was that breakfast from Duo Duo?"
Chen Mo walked to the living Room, and seeing Shen Rou walk back carrying the bag, he knew who had sent it.
Ever since the Yang Dahai couple joined the company, he basically hadn't eaten breakfast out; it was almost always delivered by Yang Duoduo.
"Yes."
Shen Rou nodded.
"Put it on the table, let's eat together."
Chen Mo took the bag from Shen Rou and laid out the breakfast on the table one by one. Seeing the amount of food today, it was clearly extra.
"By the way, you didn't rest well last night. Go to the Room and get some rest later."
Chen Mo asked suddenly while eating breakfast.
"No need, I have things to do today."
Shen Rou shook her head. She planned to visit the orphanage today, and she hadn't bought the gifts for the children yet.
"Do you need any help?"
Chen Mo asked casually.
Shen Rou was stunned for a moment upon hearing this. Thinking about buying gifts for the children, she realized she did indeed need someone to help carry them.
She then spoke carefully.
"I'm going to visit the children at the orphanage and need to buy some gifts. I might need someone to help me carry them."
"Of course, if you're busy, you don't have to help."
"Alright, let's go together later."
Chen Mo nodded and agreed immediately. He didn't have anything to do anyway, so he might as well go out for a walk; who knows, he might stumble upon somewhere to spend money.
"Are you sure it won't delay your business?"
Shen Rou confirmed again.
"I don't have anything to do today, it's fine."
Chen Mo shook his head.
"That's good."
Shen Rou felt relieved and happily started eating breakfast.
After finishing breakfast, the two of them tidied up the tableware simply and left.
…
Jiang City, Red Heart Orphanage.
A taxi slowly stopped at the entrance of the orphanage.
Chen Mo got out of the car and moved the gifts he had bought from the back seat and the trunk one by one.
"Let me help."
Shen Rou also hurried over to help.
Soon, a mountain of gifts was moved to the ground.
Chen Mo straightened his back and carefully examined the orphanage.
He saw a very dilapidated plaque hanging above the orphanage gate. The words "Red Heart Orphanage" were clearly visible, but the paint had long since faded away.
The courtyard playground was a very rudimentary dirt ground, containing a few very old playground facilities that looked like they had been there for quite some years.
The orphanage building was only three stories tall, and its exterior was also very dilapidated, with signs of peeling wall plaster visible in many places.
If Shen Rou hadn't brought him here, he would have thought this orphanage had gone out of business if he had passed by.
"So this is where you grew up."
Chen Mo turned to look at Shen Rou. Along the way, Shen Rou had told him many things about the orphanage.
"Yes."
Shen Rou nodded, her gaze carefully surveying the orphanage, a smile overflowing on her lips.
Every time she returned here, she felt like she was back home.
Not long after.
A group of children suddenly rushed out from the building and ran straight towards the gate.
