Chapter 70 The Changes in the Business Department

Chen Mo listened to Jiang Cheng's account, a complex mix of emotions swirling in his heart.

Normally, he should be happy and touched that these employees were working so hard and trusting him.

But the key point was, he didn't need to make money.

It was all because of that sly fox Li Shen; it seemed he had to think of a way to deal with this.

He could consider promoting him, and this position should involve as little contact with the workshop's operations as possible.

But after Li Shen was promoted, who should take over as the workshop director?

Chen Mo pondered for a long time, and finally, his gaze fell upon Jiang Cheng, who was right in front of him.

Wasn't this an excellent candidate right here?

Honest and reliable.

An honest person like this surely wouldn't cause trouble like Li Shen, right?

The more Chen Mo looked at him, the more satisfied he became; he would find time to talk to Li Shen and then finalize this matter.

"Alright, I understand the situation. You can go back first."

"Understood, Boss Chen."

Jiang Cheng nodded, stood up, and walked out.

Business Department.

Li Shen leaned back in his office chair, crossing his legs.

"Brother Shen, thanks to your reminder this time, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to secure the orders so quickly."

Wu Yu brought a cup of water and placed it in front of Li Shen.

"No need to thank me; I only offered a couple of reminders. Being able to secure the orders is still the result of your hard work. Plus, it's because the clothes produced by our Garment factory are of good quality and low price."

"We still have to thank Brother Shen. If it weren't for Brother Shen's reminder, we wouldn't have realized that we could go out to pursue business on Saturdays and Sundays."

Wu Yu insisted.

Ever since Wei Yan was transferred, the Business Department hadn't seen any new orders.

If they waited until the one-million-yuan order Wei Yan left behind was finished and no new orders appeared, the workshop might face a downtime period.

He and the two new sales staff had been very anxious.

Just a few days ago, Li Shen found them and suggested that they could go out to pursue business even when they were off on Saturdays and Sundays.

They thought about it and realized it made sense; the company employees were on holiday, but that didn't affect them going out to pursue business at all.

So, on Saturday and Sunday, the three of them didn't rest but went out to visit many clients.

Unexpectedly, they actually gained something; some clients who had shown interest before placed orders directly after this visit.

Moreover, he also realized that some clients couldn't be signed after just one visit; it required constant contact and maintenance.

"Alright, I didn't come here to listen to your flattery."

"I'm here to urge you to keep getting orders. Now that the workshop's efficiency has doubled, once Wei Yan's one-million-yuan order is finished, those two orders you just secured won't be enough to keep us busy."

"So you all need to continue working hard. That goes for you two new hires as well; business comes from going out and chasing it."

"Also, when you have time, look for Wei Yan to learn from him. He's a veteran in the business with over a decade of experience; the knowledge he can pass on is much better than mine, so be smart about it, you know?"

Li Shen stood up from his seat and gently patted Wu Yu on the shoulder.

He walked out of the Business Department.

Construction site.

"Everyone, put in some effort! Once this batch of goods is unloaded, we can eat."

A man wearing a hard hat shouted at the top of his lungs.

In the distance, a group of workers unloaded cement from a truck and carried it away.

It was already noon, and the scorching sun beat down on their dust-covered faces, with beads of murky sweat dripping down.

Lu Pengtao placed the last bag of cement, his whole body feeling somewhat exhausted as he leaned against the cement bags, reaching out with the back of a relatively clean hand to wipe his sweat-drenched face.

He stayed there for a while, finally catching his breath.

He walked to a water bucket and washed his face vigorously.

Just then, the foreman walked over, took out a hundred-yuan note, and handed it to him.

"Here, this is today's pay. The boxed lunches are over there; go get one yourself."

"Thank you."

Lu Pengtao took the hundred-yuan note, carefully placed it in his pocket, and walked toward the food truck in the distance.

After getting a boxed lunch, he found a shady spot and started eating.

"I'm telling you, why is your phone always unreachable?"

"If I hadn't called your wife, I would have thought you'd gone missing."

Yang Dahai walked up to Lu Pengtao and sat down next to him.

After he dropped Boss Chen off at the Garment factory, he started trying to contact him, but the call wouldn't go through. Finally, he had to call his wife, and after asking around, he learned that he was at the construction site unloading cement.

"This phone's battery life is no good anymore; it shuts down before long."

Lu Pengtao took the phone out of his pocket and pressed it in front of Yang Dahai, but there was no response.

"What made you think of coming to find me? Is there something up?"

As he spoke, he took out a pack of cigarettes; the pack had become somewhat crumpled, likely due to the work.

He pulled out one of the relatively intact cigarettes from inside and handed it to Yang Dahai.

"I don't smoke anymore. I quit."

Yang Dahai glanced at the cigarette but didn't take it.

Ever since he started working as a driver for Chen Mo, he had quit smoking.

After all, Chen Mo didn't smoke, and as a driver, he couldn't smoke in the car, so he eventually just quit altogether.

"Quitting is good; it saves money."

Lu Pengtao took the cigarette back, put it in his mouth, lit it, and took a deep drag.

Yang Dahai looked at Lu Pengtao, covered in dust, and sighed inwardly.

If his own family hadn't met Chen Mo, they would probably be in the same state.

No,

it would be even worse.

After all, he had a waist injury and couldn't even handle manual labor like unloading cement.

"How did you end up doing this kind of work?"

"There's no other way. Over these years, my biggest skill has been driving, but now that I'm older, nobody wants to hire me!"

"Only this kind of manual labor pays a bit more, so I just do this."

Lu Pengtao stared into the distance and exhaled a puff of smoke.

"I remember you said before you were working as a security guard?"

"I'm still working as a security guard, but it's the night shift, so I come out to do day labor during the day."

"How old are you now? Pushing yourself so hard—be careful not to ruin your health."

Yang Dahai said with some concern.

"There's no choice. My child needs to pay off the mortgage for their house, and now that they have a girlfriend, I have to save up for the bride price."

"It's not like you, having two daughters."

Lu Pengtao sighed and turned to look at Yang Dahai.

"You still haven't said what you came to find me for."

"Hahaha, let's talk business. I have a good job opportunity here; do you want to come?"

Yang Dahai laughed twice. After the conversation they just had, he knew he would be able to complete the task entrusted to him by Boss Chen.

"What kind of job? How much does it pay? Is it reliable?"

Lu Pengtao asked a few key questions, though deep down he didn't hold much hope.

After all, their situations were much the same; what kind of good place could there be?
