Chapter 71: The Power of Love is Not Infinite

[You have completed a full simulation]

[Your life was like a brilliant shooting star; though brief, it left behind a sufficiently bright trail]

[You were a Sanctuary Archmage proficient in multiple elements. Your mastery of the elements possessed an unparalleled comprehensiveness; you were a true elemental Great Master]

[You were proficient in the communication methods of the Dragon Clan and were one of the few individuals feared and respected by them]

[In multiple Domains, you possessed profound insights and exquisite skills, making you the most knowledgeable Mortal in the world]

[You successfully raised the Witch to adulthood and taught her to become an independent person. You passed away peacefully of old age under the Witch's gaze, with no regrets in your heart]

[Simulation ended. Starting the tally of highlight moments]

[Calculating simulation evaluation…]

[Generating simulation rewards…]

"Am I back?"

A blink of an eye.

The scene before him changed silently, shifting from the architectural style of the Magic World to the real world. Xu Xi himself was sitting on the sofa in the living room.

There was a slight buzzing in his head, but it quickly returned to normal. The vitality brought by his young body filled his entire being once again.

"No wonder so many emperors in history always thought about rejuvenation."

"The taste of aging…"

"It really is unpleasant."

Clenching his fist slightly to feel the power surging within him, Xu Xi exhaled a breath of turbid air.

While in the Magic World, he could clearly feel his bodily functions deteriorating day by day, watching himself weaken to the point where even walking was exhausting.

That feeling.

Xu Xi truly did not want to experience it a second time.

"I wonder how that child Klisa is doing after the simulation ended," Xu Xi leaned back, his body slumped into the sofa.

Waiting for the simulator to finish its settlement.

Xu Xi was somewhat worried.

After his death, would the weak, pitiful, and helpless Witch be discovered by the gods in the heavens, thereby returning to a life of helpless flight once again?

Inside the quiet house, Xu Xi's thoughts were somewhat cluttered, eventually turning into a soft sigh.

Silence.

An incredible silence.

In the courtyard, inside the house, by the bedroom bedside.

Everything and everyone had fallen into absolute stillness.

No, there was still a sound—the sound of tears dripping, the manifestation of condensed despair, striking the ground with deep sorrow.

It hurts…

My heart hurts so much…

The Witch sat blankly by the bedside, her hands holding that already cold, aged palm, wanting to warm it with her own body temperature.

But it was useless, completely useless.

The once-warm sun no longer had any heat.

The once-light that brought salvation would never appear again.

His voice, his appearance, his everything—all became dim and lusterless from then on, dragging the Witch down into a bottomless abyss.

"Mentor, you lied to me…"

"The power of love isn't infinite at all…"

Klisa spoke softly.

Hot tears kept falling, wetting her cheeks, and finally dripping onto that cold, aged hand.

She loved.

Loved deeply.

Loved Xu Xi eternally.

However, that love, so intense it occupied her entire being, did not grant the Witch the power to save everything; she could only watch helplessly as Xu Xi silently passed away before her.

In the end, only the immortal monster remained, still sitting there intact.

Her hands trembled.

Constantly regretting her own powerlessness.

Unable to catch the fluttering, withering flower.

It hurt, it really hurt, so much that her entire being was screaming in pain, hating her own weakness and insignificance.

"Mentor…"

"I will wait for you forever, until we meet again."

Klisa could no longer endure the sorrow in her heart.

"Ah, ah… ahhh…" she sobbed hoarsely, her fingers tightly covering her despairing face. She seemed to want to cry out loud, but her throat was already too parched to continue.

In the end, only crystal-clear tears continued to drip down.

Forming spots of watery light on the floor.

Gradually, accompanied by the Witch's hoarse wails, the small amount of blank space remaining in the center of her black and gold eyes began to change and distort.

A strange, eerie red emerged.

It was the color of blood.

It was the color of the heart.

It was the color of love.

The Witch's eyes completed their transformation, displaying the phantom tricolor of black, red, and gold. Invisible and mysterious power surged within her, helping her break her shackles. Silently and imperceptibly, she ascended from a Sanctuary Archmage to a Demigod.

The elements drew near to her, the world grew close to her, and all things bowed their heads in a gesture of goodwill.

In stark contrast to the Witch was Xu Xi's already dead, aged body.

The light wind whimpered.

The body turned into tiny, invisible dust, crumbling bit by bit before the Witch's eyes, taking away the last memory, taking away the last reliance.

His overly frail Mortal body, having endured years of pressure from Sanctuary-level Mental Energy, had long since decayed beyond recognition.

Now.

It finally met its natural end.

"Mentor…" the Witch watched quietly, sat quietly, as if isolated from the entire world.

Her heart was nearly dead.

But she decided to wait—as an immortal monster, she would wait forever, search forever, until she met Xu Xi once again.

And before then…

"Mentor's instructions," Klisa murmured to herself.

She remembered that earlier, Xu Xi had entrusted her with many things, all of which were arrangements for her.

They might be useful, or they might not, but the Witch didn't care about that. She only wanted to collect all those traces and keep them by her side.

The magic circle in the meditation room…

The dragon blood grass in the courtyard…

The collection in the bedroom cabinet…

The documents in the study…

The Witch moved like a doll, without any superfluous thoughts, mechanically completing each of Xu Xi's instructions.

Upon entering the study, the first thing she saw was a large stack of manuscripts on the desk, which caught her eye.

Most of them were spells created by Xu Xi and some research on how to become a god.

Klisa was organizing and putting them away, and just as she was about to leave, she suddenly keenly noticed a tiny corner of paper protruding from the inner side of the study wall, buried deep beneath numerous books.

"That is…"

The Witch was puzzled; what kind of information would require Xu Xi to hide it so deeply?

She raised her palm slightly, and invisible Mental Energy instantly pulled out the protrusion, subsequently drawing out a few thin sheets of paper that floated before her eyes.

The handwriting on them was familiar.

It was undoubtedly the handwriting of her mentor, Xu Xi.

[Failed again. As expected, the gods' blockade is difficult to Breakthrough]

[Sigh, if only I could have the ability to ignore the blockade like Klisa]

[Tried again this year; a predictable failure]

[My body is getting older. Even if I could Breakthrough the blockade, I wouldn't be able to successfully ignite the divine fire. I can only give up]

[Godhood, truly a distant term]

[It's impossible for me now. My body has become more lethargic lately, and my time is running out. I must pave the way for Klisa's future]

[This is the last thing I can do…]
