Chapter 72: Do Even the Gods Feel Fear?
The writing on the paper went far beyond that.
It was extensive and densely written.
It was entirely life arrangements for Klisa, for the Witch, including but not limited to strength enhancement, future direction, and her daily life.
Every character outlined, every intermittent sentence, was so crooked and awkward that one could tell the writer's state was extremely poor.
The suppression originating from the gods.
The final tolling of his lifespan.
It made it incredibly difficult for the person the Witch cared about most to even write normally.
But even so, he still worried about the Witch's future, weighing the pros and cons for her and illuminating the path ahead.
"Mentor."
With trembling fingertips, she stroked the surface of the paper, passing over every character, feeling the residual warmth from the "sun."
Drip—
Drip—
A crisp impact sounded; it was the echo of tears falling onto the paper.
Klisa stood in the study where she was all alone, looking at the familiar handwriting on the paper. Her eyes instantly filled with tears, and droplets silently slid down without making a sound of grief.
The sunlight outside poured down wantonly, bringing heat and light to all things, making the forest of trees dappled and the insects and birds chirp in unison.
The world was tranquil in the summer.
The Witch was silent in her pain.
Her eyes no longer held any light; the only slight flicker was the silent weeping reflected on the surface of her crystal-clear tears as light hit them.
"I clearly… clearly… don't deserve this from you…"
"It was you who gave me a reason to exist… that was enough…"
"I don't need more…"
The scene was silent, but the impact of the sorrow reached straight to the soul.
The Witch had never cried so quietly, so sorrowfully, and so helplessly as she did now. Even now, she still felt that she was a complete and utter defect.
She had no courage and could only rely on Xu Xi to move forward.
She had no power and could only sit by and watch as Xu Xi passed away.
She had no emotions and could only give Xu Xi fake smiles.
Her life, the life of the Witch, the life named Klisa Christina.
It was so pale and powerless.
She couldn't accomplish anything; she could do nothing.
Looking at every sentence on the paper where Xu Xi, knowing his lifespan was short, still considered her needs, Klisa's body trembled even more.
She so badly wanted to sink into darkness forever, to never move again.
But she couldn't.
Her Mentor didn't want her to become like this.
He looked forward to it, encouraged her, hoping the Witch would spread her wings and fly freely into the sky.
Therefore, Klisa stood up again. She was very obedient, very much so to Xu Xi's words, and prepared to live on according to Xu Xi's command.
But.
What was the meaning of living on?
The Witch did not know; the Witch had no god. It wasn't until she saw the word "gods" on the paper that her eyes shifted slightly, finding her reason for existence.
"I want to…"
"I want to do… something… for Mentor…"
"Even if I must… become an enemy of the gods."
In the terrifyingly quiet silence, Klisa's movements trembled as she slowly took off the sea-blue necklace from her neck. After stroking it carefully for a while, she placed it into her spatial ring.
Immediately after, a magic wand appeared in her palm.
Creak—
The gate of the courtyard was pushed open, the rusted bolt letting out a slightly piercing echo. Klisa walked out of the gate with a blank stare, looking extremely haggard.
Sunlight enveloped the Witch, but all she could feel was coldness.
Her mental state was dazed and vacant.
She didn't even notice the pebbles beneath her feet.
The Witch fell. After lying quietly for a few seconds, her slender fingertips pressed against the ground, and with force from her palm, she stood up on her own.
She knew that from now on, no one would ever help her up again; therefore, she had to learn to stand up by herself.
Only then would her Mentor not have to worry.
Only then could she live well.
The noon sun was blazing and bright, and along this path, light and shadow intertwined.
Wisps of sunlight passed through the gaps in the dense leaves, falling onto the walking Witch's shoulders like a silent gaze, witnessing her walking further and further away.
From then on.
The Witch would become an immortal monster, living alone in this world.
She left the courtyard forever.
Leaving this place that was no longer "home."
No one knew where the Witch had gone. It wasn't until four or five years had passed that the Mortals living nearby felt something was wrong, realizing there had been no movement in the courtyard for a long time.
Someone curiously climbed over the wall to check, only to see a thick layer of dust.
Such an anomaly soon attracted the attention of the Mages Association, but they failed to find anything. All items related to Xu Xi had been collected and taken away by Klisa.
Only the empty house remained, its doors and windows swaying in the wind, leaving people puzzled.
In the end.
The incident was characterized as a simple disappearance.
For some reason, for a long time afterward, Alenson City was often attacked by Sub-dragon Species, and occasionally, even pure-blooded Dragons would strike.
This became an unsolved mystery of Alenson City.
Thirty years later.
Under the will of the gods, many Churches of the Gods were still searching for Xu Xi's whereabouts, wanting to find that Sanctuary Archmage who had the potential to become a new god.
But before long, a terrifying incident shocked the entire Magic World.
Overnight.
The Churches of the Gods across the entire northern side of the world were uprooted.
No, it would be more appropriate to call it annihilation.
At the same time in different locations, a great power descended from the firmament, extinguishing the faith of the gods in silence.
The gods descended to the world in a fit of rage.
"Who? Who is it!?"
"To be disrespectful to the gods is to seek your own death!"
"Wait, this power… could it be that you have already ignited the divine fire?!"
The gods who descended to the Mortal realm were not their true bodies from the heavens; even so, they still possessed power that surpassed the Mortal realm.
Yet, even these high and mighty gods…
Despite their advantage in numbers, they still couldn't do anything to the Witch.
In the end, the battle was a draw, and the Witch left safely.
This incident triggered a crisis of faith in the gods. Countless people regarded the Witch as the only True God, to the point that the gods were furious and ordered a search for her whereabouts.
Another twenty years passed.
Klisa appeared once more.
She stood in the sky, her magic wand striking the Void Realm. Her vast and majestic magic power swept through the elements, forming a wild roar that submerged the world.
With a single blow, she wiped out the entire Foundation of faith for the gods.
No matter where they were located, the Churches of the Gods were precisely destroyed.
Amidst the people's fear and panic…
They firmly believed that the Witch must have an irreconcilable feud with the gods.
Even the gods thought so.
"No, it's too dangerous to stay in the heavens. That fellow will eventually fight her way up!"
"If you want to fight, then you go fight!"
Some gods were terrified, and some were afraid, wanting to flee from the heavens.
Although the Magic World was large, it was not the only existence in Chaos. With the power of a god, it was easy to find a new world or hide in the elemental planes.
No god wanted to perish.
The terrifying magic originating from the Witch made even the gods tremble with fear.
But at this moment, it was already too late to escape. Earth, wind, water, and fire roared and rumbled, unknowingly enveloping and sealing off the entire heavens.
