Chapter 75: Getting Along

What is the most unacceptable thing in this world?

A few years ago, many people couldn't answer, because there were too many unacceptable things, and if you asked them to pick one, they would have a hard time deciding.

But now, they can say in unison, “Becoming a zombie.”

Therefore, many people choose to commit suicide after being bitten by a zombie.

But even more people found it hard to accept the truth, so they kept hypnotizing themselves, thinking perhaps they wouldn't turn into a zombie, until the first signs of transformation appeared, until the very moment they truly transformed, they still couldn't accept the fact.

As for her, to be able to survive after being infected with the zombie virus was already a blessing from the heavens, and she didn't dare to wish for more.

Of course, deep in her heart, a sentence always lingered—her mother's words, full of reluctance and a hint of fear in her trembling voice, before she died.

“You must live well.”

She didn't want to die, whether for herself or for the mother who loved her.

“You don't even know what this means. After drinking my blood, I can't guarantee what changes will occur in your body. Perhaps you might become like me.”

Somehow, Mr. Hank's voice grew much louder, making Colette feel a bit dazed.

“Aren't I not having any changes?”

Colette subconsciously murmured in a low voice.

But this extremely small sound was still heard by Mr. Hank, who had excellent hearing.

Somehow, he suddenly became a bit angry.

“Just because your body isn't changing now doesn't mean it won't change later. I also thought this was just a minor problem before, but look at me now, can you still think that nothing will happen!?”

Mr. Hank turned his head and roared at Colette, saliva flying onto Colette's face.

Colette silently wiped the saliva from her face, then, avoiding Mr. Hank's "Eyes", wiped the saliva from her hand onto the seat.

Mr. Hank's roar just now made Colette completely confirm that this person was the Mr. Hank who often came to her house.

But now was not the time to care about that.

“Did Mr. Hank also get infected with some virus to become like this?” Colette asked.

“—I don't know.”

Mr. Hank suddenly became dejected.

He had no clue about the changes in his body.

At the same time, he both loved and hated it.

If it weren't for this change, he might have died in the mouth of a zombie like everyone else, but it was precisely the change in his body that made him the way he was now.

Even now, he hadn't fully accepted this point.

“It's okay, anyway, I might also become like you. I'll stay with you.”

When Colette said this, her voice trembled slightly, but she had already come to terms with it.

If she didn't completely become like Mr. Hank, or if she could switch between the “dragon” and human forms, that would be even better.

Children are more accepting of novel things, and Colette quickly accepted this fact. The only thing she couldn't accept was that while looking like a “dragon” might be cool to boys, for girls, it was better to maintain their original appearance.

Or rather, they were afraid of becoming ugly.

But Colette didn't know that her comforting words directly broke Mr. Hank.

Then, Mr. Hank felt even more guilty.

After all, she had fed him her blood; this was an undeniable fact.

“Mr. Hank, where are we going?”

“—To find the Umbrella Corporation.”

“What kind of Company is the Umbrella Corporation?”

“—A very big Company.”

“Then why is Mr. Hank looking for the Umbrella Corporation?”

“—The Umbrella Corporation wants to catch me and take me to their Laboratory for experiments, and I'm not willing.”

“Oh.”

“—”

The small car slowly drove through the wilderness, with the little girl and a large, dragon-like creature exchanging questions and answers.

—After losing human maintenance, the City was rapidly decaying.

Due to the presence of zombies, the City was not occupied by various wild beasts, but various plants growing from the earth had already covered all corners of the City over several years.

From a distance, most of the steel forest created by humans was already covered in green.

Only some sufficiently tall buildings remained unscathed.

The view pulled downwards.

Zombies stood in the streets and alleys of the City, and not only on the main streets, but even more zombies were hidden in the surrounding buildings.

And some zombies, perhaps due to not moving for a long time, were already covered in various plants.

Some plants even rooted their stems inside the zombies, forming unique types of zombies.

Of course, the combat power of these zombies was not very strong; at most, they would be more resistant to damage due to the plants on their bodies.

If these zombies were not stimulated, the City might present a harmonious picture.

“Bang~”

And it was in this quiet City that a loud bang echoed.

The main gate of a building with the Umbrella Corporation's unique red and white logo was violently destroyed, making a sound like an explosion.

The surrounding zombies heard the commotion, and their bodies, which hadn't moved for an unknown amount of time, suddenly stirred.

They howled to the sky and then ran towards the source of the sound.

But— “Click~”

An unknown number of zombies twisted their waists just as they turned, and some even broke their legs.

Even after prolonged dormancy, the bodily functions of these zombies had largely disappeared.

The fact that they could still move was a miracle of the t-virus.

Without special feeding from the Umbrella Corporation, these zombies might turn into a pile of dust before long, and the t-virus would disappear along with them.

Perhaps without the Umbrella Corporation's vaccine, decades or centuries later, the t-virus might completely disappear.

And those zombies with broken waists or legs still crawled towards the source of the sound with their fragile hands, as if something fatal was attracting them there.

On a building several hundred meters away from the Umbrella Corporation, a dirty Colette watched the zombies slowly moving towards the Umbrella Corporation, feeling a little speechless.

“Really, Mr. Hank, doesn't he know how to be a little quieter?”

Colette and Mr. Hank had been together for over half a month, and they had become increasingly familiar with each other, getting along much better.

This could be seen from Colette's way of addressing him.

And after half a month, Colette's body did show some changes, just as Mr. Hank had expected.

However, the situation was not as Mr. Hank had predicted; the changes in Colette's body were not as massive as his own.
