Chapter 882: Meeting the Mayor
"Is there a way to go to the Holy City from Gotham City?"
Zhou Huai changed the topic too quickly; Eliza was stunned for a moment before reacting.
A second ago they were still chatting about High-Dimensional Law and the origin sacred tree, and now he suddenly asked about transportation to the Holy City.
Facing this existence capable of easily obliterating a Rank 70 powerhouse, Eliza dared not neglect him; she sorted out her thoughts and answered respectfully.
"Replying to you, Sir, there used to be."
"In the past, the Demonic Energy trains operated by the 'Steam Gear' Guild could cross most of the Federation and go directly to the Holy City. That was the safest and fastest civilian transportation method in the Federation."
Eliza's expression was somewhat helpless.
"But as you know, Sir, recently the entire Free Federation has been in complete chaos because of the rumors about the fall of the old Holy Lord. Major factions are scrambling for territory, and to protect itself, the Steam Gear Guild long ago announced the complete suspension of all Demonic Energy trains."
"What about the Teleportation Array?"
Zhou Huai habitually tapped the armrest of his wheelchair.
"There is no Teleportation Array directly leading to the Holy City in Gotham City either," Eliza shook her head.
"The Holy City is the absolute core of the Papacy and the Holy Knights Order. To prevent surprise attacks by external enemies, the Law of Space around the Holy City has been severely compressed, and ordinary Teleportation Arrays simply cannot establish coordinates. If you want to go there, you can only rely on the three-star military airships dedicated to the interior of the Papacy and the Holy Knights Order."
"Military airships?" Zhou Huai raised an eyebrow. "Wouldn't it be fine to just rob one?"
Eliza was startled in her heart.
Robbing the Papacy's military airship? In the Free Federation, perhaps only the person before her dared to speak so casually.
"Sir, the control of military airships is extremely strict, and now the situation is chaotic; the airships have all retreated inside the defense line, so finding one is not easy…"
Speaking of this, Eliza suddenly remembered something.
"Right! Sir, actually there is still a way!"
"Oh? Let's hear it."
"The mayor of Gotham City we mentioned before, Bruce Wayne, actually has several private airships in his hands!"
Eliza's speech accelerated.
"The Yalige Family is financially powerful, almost monopolizing more than half of the industries in Gotham City. The level of the private airships in his hands is even higher than the military airships of the Papacy!"
"I remember very clearly that there is a four-star luxury Demonic Energy airship among them. Back when Bruce Wayne ascended the mayoral throne, he once rode that airship to fly a circle around Gotham City—the scene was extremely cool, and everyone in Gotham City saw it!"
"Is that so."
Zhou Huai pondered slightly.
Bruce Wayne? A four-star private airship? Somewhat interesting.
"Alright, then we will go talk to that Mr. Wayne."
Zhou Huai made the final decision.
Two minutes later, the gale howled.
Zhou Huai and Eliza rode a dark-golden high-tier griffin, taking to the air from the Yalige Family's devastated mid-mountain manor.
On the manor's lawn, that woman transformed from a branch of the origin sacred tree and extremely resembling Zhou Huai's mother stood quietly in place. She gazed at Zhou Huai's receding back, remaining motionless for a long time.
She did not know if this young man could contend against that Mr. Duan, but she could feel that there were variables on this young man that could break the rules.
"This time… can it really be done?"
The woman slowly spoke, then shook her head, turned around, and walked back into the villa.
In the high-altitude clouds, the griffin traveled swiftly.
Eliza poked her head out, pointing at a building in the center of Gotham City below and shouting: "Sir! Right there! Wayne Tower!"
Zhou Huai looked down from above.
In the chaotic center of Gotham City, filled everywhere with magic explosions, stood a dark gray skyscraper.
The building soared into the clouds, its outer walls intertwined with high-strength alloy and magical colored glaze. Compared to the dilapidated civilian buildings around it, it was full of a hyper-generational sci-fi feel.
The most eye-catching thing was the huge "W" logo outlined by magical neon lights on the top floor of the building, still glaring in the daytime.
"This styling really is the bad taste of a rich person," Zhou Huai inwardly complained.
As the griffin approached, Zhou Huai sensed energy fluctuations in the high-altitude Domain of Wayne Tower.
That was a high-tier defense Formation containing sharp murderous intent; unidentified flying objects barging in would definitely be instantly shredded. This mayor obviously did not welcome others entering his Domain from the air.
Zhou Huai had ten thousand ways to crack this Formation, but considering that the core purpose of sneaking into the Free Federation was to find his mother, it was best to keep a low profile before he was certain, so as not to attract the attention of Mr. Duan.
"Go down."
Zhou Huai patted the griffin's neck.
The griffin obediently folded its flesh wings, avoided the high-altitude Restriction, and landed on the outer plaza of Wayne Tower.
The plaza was paved with obsidian floor tiles, immaculate and spotless, forming a sharp contrast with the chaotic streets outside.
The two just leaped down from the griffin, and before they even approached the revolving glass doors, two suit-clad bodyguards walked over briskly.
Both of their Ranks were above Level 50, wearing sunglasses, with Demonic Energy weapons equipped at their waists. They vigilantly sized up Zhou Huai and Eliza, especially wary of that high-tier griffin. But on Wayne Tower's turf, they naturally had confidence.
"What do the two of you want?"
The bodyguard with a scar on his left cheek stepped forward, his tone cold and hard.
Zhou Huai couldn't be bothered to talk nonsense and went straight to the point.
"I am here to see Mayor Wayne."
The two bodyguards exchanged glances. There were many people who wanted to see Mayor Wayne every day; the young man in front of them dressed ordinarily, without even a visiting card, opening his mouth to see the mayor—did he really take this place for a vegetable market?
The scarred bodyguard directly refused.
"Sorry, Mayor Wayne has important matters right now and is not convenient to receive guests."
Seeing this, Eliza was afraid that these two bodyguards would anger this God of Slaughter.
She stepped forward and slightly bowed, saying: "Rest assured, Sir, don't bother yourself with such trivial matters; let me talk to them."
After speaking, she turned to look at the two bodyguards, putting on the airs of an aristocratic Family.
"I am Eliza Yalige of the Yalige Family."
Eliza's tone was steady, "We have extremely important matters to meet Mayor Wayne in person, so please accommodate us and report immediately."
The scarred bodyguard scoffed out loud upon hearing this, unscrupulously sizing her up from head to toe.
"The Yalige Family?"
He showed derision, "If it were before, we might still give some Face to the Yalige Family. But now, who doesn't know that your Yalige Manor was just flattened by the Blood Wolf Gang today?"
"A down-and-out Family that has already been wiped out dares to run over to Wayne Tower to put on airs?"
The other bodyguard also drove them away: "Get lost quickly! Mayor Wayne is busy with a myriad of state affairs and has no time to see stray dogs like you guys! If you dare to pester here again, don't blame us for being impolite!"
Hearing the two's mockery, Eliza's Face turned pale, and she was at a loss for words for a moment.
Zhou Huai stood to the side, somewhat impatient.
He came here to find transportation to the Holy City, not interested in watching bottom-tier security guards look down on people here.
"Alright."
Zhou Huai spoke up to interrupt Eliza, who still wanted to argue.
He couldn't be bothered to waste time on such ants.
Zhou Huai raised his hand.
"Snap."
With a snap of his fingers.
The next second, the bodies of the two bodyguards stiffened, the contempt in the depths of their eyes vanished completely, turning into fanaticism and awe.
The two simultaneously bent down, respectfully making way: "So it turns out to be two distinguished guests! Offended just now, please enter, both of you!"
