Chapter 96: Synaesthesia

The neural bridge equipment for Jaegers wasn't hard for Newton to acquire, so he quickly found a set of neural bridge equipment.

Although it was an older model, it was sufficient.

However, to Newton's disappointment, after neurally bridging with those brains, he didn't see any memories, as if the brains were completely blank inside.

At the same time, due to repeatedly neurally bridging with those brains, Newton's behavior and demeanor also underwent a subtle change.

If he had to describe it, Newton became a bit more feral.

This "feral" meant he became more like a wild beast!

Newton's friends quickly noticed this and expressed concern.

And when he was mentioned, Newton immediately broke out in a cold sweat.

This was the side effect of neural bridging!

Even with brains that held no memories, he was still affected!

This made Newton wonder if he should stop neural bridging. Although the feeling of an empty brain, free from worries, was pleasant, if he continued, he feared he would no longer be himself.

Then, he decided to perform one last neural bridge.

After this one, he would discard this outdated neural bridge equipment.

And it was this very last time that a problem arose, and a very big one at that!

Newton felt as if he had caused a huge disaster — Godzilla looked down at the little guy in front of him, filled with surprise.

He didn't understand how a human could connect to the Godzilla Network he had only recently established.

The Godzilla Network, created by his sub-brain, was a network capable of connecting to the consciousness of all the monsters he had created.

Not only could he see everything other monsters saw through the network, but Godzilla could even take over any monster's body and forcibly control it.

However, only monsters created through the Monster Factory, or those that had undergone an upgrade there, possessed this network.

How could a human possibly enter his Godzilla Network?

Was there something he didn't know?

Godzilla's first thought was that a Watcher or some other small monster had been captured by humans, and they had then used some unknown black technology to hack into his Godzilla Network.

After all, he was very clear about the power of large monsters; even if they weren't as strong as him, if they encountered danger, even if they couldn't win, they could still escape.

So, it could only be small monsters like the Watchers.

But now, Godzilla needed to think carefully about how to deal with this intruder who had entered his Godzilla Network.

Godzilla wasn't afraid of this little guy escaping, because as soon as he entered the Godzilla Network, Godzilla had imprisoned him there, making escape impossible!

Newton simply couldn't believe what he was seeing!

He had originally thought it was just one last neural bridge with that brain, but unexpectedly, this neural bridge directly led him into a mysterious space.

He felt this space was full of danger everywhere, yet it wasn't dark, fundamentally different from the dead silence of space.

Here, he saw countless glowing entities, hanging high above him, dazzling like stars.

Among them, the most numerous, in Newton's eyes, were countless stars about several meters in diameter, impossible to count.

Conversely, the even more dazzling presences, stars each a hundred meters in diameter, were fewer, only a dozen or so.

Among them, what most horrified Newton was the most dazzling presence in this mysterious space.

Although it was only a little over a hundred meters in diameter, the light it emitted was hotter than the sun.

What sent his soul flying even further was that this star actually swam towards him!

Yes, swam!

Upon seeing that star move, he couldn't think of a more suitable analogy than that.

Newton's first reaction was to turn and run, but his reason stopped his body's instinct.

He knew that turning his back to that unknown entity at this moment would only lead to a quicker death!

As that star got closer and closer to him, he suddenly felt a restraint appear on his body.

It made him unable to move.

It was over.

Completely over.

At this moment, Newton understood; he probably, maybe, couldn't leave this place.

Or rather, ever since he entered this mysterious space, he had already been unable to leave.

He had personally pushed himself into the abyss!

Wait!

Newton suddenly realized that he seemed to have entered here only after neurally bridging with that brain.

So, does that mean this was once the memory of that brain?

No, that's not right. That brain had always been in a nutrient tank. How could it have seen all this?

Newton was completely puzzled.

He knew that if he could figure out this question, he would know what everything he was seeing truly was.

When the star's light dissipated, revealing the true form of the entity within, Newton's eyes widened, and he understood everything!

Hive mind!

The consciousness of that brain was connected to Leviathan!

Newton suddenly understood that he had accidentally connected his consciousness to an utterly terrifying monster!

No wonder his consciousness was imprisoned here.

He was practically offering himself as "dessert" to the monster in front of him.

Newton's face turned pale; he knew that he was probably in grave danger today.

He also wondered how long it would take for his body to be discovered after his brain died.

After all, the Laboratory he was in was very secluded.

Facing imminent death, Newton instead felt a sense of release.

He studied Kaiju, he studied Godzilla, his purpose was merely to know why they came, and from where.

He only wanted to benefit humanity by studying them.

Now, this was the closest he had ever been to Godzilla, and he didn't want to give up this opportunity!

Come on, let me see what secrets you truly hold!

At this moment, Newton faced death as if returning home.

But he quickly realized that since he could know a monster's memories through neural bridging, then the monster could also know his memories — because neural bridging was bidirectional!

If the monster really gained his memories — Newton immediately realized that if the monster in front of him obtained the memories in his mind, it would surely be a disaster for humanity!

He, had actually become a "traitor" to humanity?

At this moment, Newton truly looked ashen, even wishing he could die.

If he weren't currently unable to move, he would definitely commit suicide to prevent the monster from getting any of his memories!

But the problem was, even without Godzilla's restraint, he couldn't commit suicide.

How does an consciousness commit suicide?
