Deadly Poison
Rhodey shrank back a little and said awkwardly, "Their ears are that sharp?"
"After all, that’s Loki."
Everyone laughed as they fought Thanos with all their might. They had never forgotten the Snap from five years ago. Now, it was time for revenge.
They were the Avengers.
In the spectator space, Wang Bert was alone, yet he had three Thanoses pinned down. He even had the leisure to observe the battle in the arena. He said, "Thanos, let me tell you some unfortunate news. Your variant plan is about to fail."
"My variant plan hasn’t failed. More than a hundred variants forced out one of your trump cards. I’d say that was well worth it."
Thanos sneered. "Did you think I only had a hundred or so variants?"
As Thanos spoke, more than a hundred variants rushed out of his body and surrounded Wang Bert. As he had said, he had merely been testing the waters before.
Honestly, Wang Bert’s methods had indeed surprised Thanos somewhat. Fortunately, it did not affect the bigger picture. He was certain to win this battle.
"You think I didn’t know you were just testing the waters?"
Wang Bert transformed into a form with three heads and six arms, fighting more than a hundred Thanoses alone. At the same time, he mocked, "Thanos, do you know why you’ll lose? Because you’re not decisive enough. You play things too safe.
"Your last defeat left a shadow in your heart. You’re already finished."
"I haven’t lost. The one who’ll lose is you."
As a Creator God, Thanos would not be shaken so easily. He smiled disdainfully and intensified his assault alongside his hundred-plus variants. The surrounding area was nearly reduced to nothingness. Even Wang Bert appeared somewhat disheveled.
After all, there were more than a hundred Thanoses. Anyone else would have long since been killed by them.
"You haven’t lost yet, but you will very soon."
Wang Bert stopped wasting time. He raised his left hand, and a gray glow appeared in his palm. Then, he sent that gray glow into the body of a Thanos in front of him.
That Thanos instantly turned from purple to gray. He froze for a moment, then turned and grabbed another Thanos. The other Thanos was quickly infected by the grayness on his body and turned gray as well.
Then, the two gray Thanoses pounced on the others at the same time. Seeing that something was wrong, Thanos immediately attacked the two gray Thanoses himself.
The two gray Thanoses grinned and exploded simultaneously. Vast amounts of gray blood splattered onto the other Thanoses, who rapidly turned gray and pounced on the remaining Thanoses.
Just like that, the purple Thanoses rapidly became gray Thanoses. Thanos tried countless methods, but he could not stop them. Left with no choice, he could only dismiss the variants.
But to Thanos’s shock, those gray Thanoses did not disappear. They grinned savagely and lunged at Thanos together, beating him mercilessly.
Thanos was not Wang Bert. Besieged by more than a hundred versions of himself, he was thrown into a frantic scramble. At that moment, Wang Bert shot out from beside several Thanoses and punched Thanos in the body. Thanos screamed and flew backward, vomiting blood continuously in the void.
"Why is this happening? Why have my variants gone out of control? What was that gray light?"
Thanos asked in shock. He had never imagined that he would lose so quickly, or so miserably.
"That gray light was… I’m not telling you."
Wang Bert said with a smile. Although he loved crushing his enemies, he never revealed his true trump cards, especially when Thanos still had variants outside and would not truly die.
Wang Bert had no intention of becoming a villain who died from talking too much.
In truth, that gray light was Thanos’s resentment. That was right, Thanos’s resentment—how could those variant Thanoses feel no resentment after being devoured by Thanos?
Thanos used his Concept Ability to summon them. While they would obey Thanos’s orders, the resentment in their hearts would not disappear.
Earlier, quite a few Thanoses had been killed by the Super Heroes. Wang Bert had secretly extracted that resentment and refined it into a poison specially designed for Thanos’s variants—Wang Bert had always been an expert at making poisons.
Once Thanos’s variants were infected with this poison, they would immediately be controlled by resentment and turn on Thanos. Even more terrifyingly, the poison was contagious. Once a variant was affected, it would immediately turn gray.
Anything Wang Bert produced was guaranteed to be top-quality.
Come to think of it, if Thanos had summoned several thousand variants to besiege Wang Bert from the start, Wang Bert might not have had time to create this poison.
Thanos had been a little too cautious. Or rather, he had feared Wang Bert too much.
Thanos roared, "Blood God, do you think you’ve won…"
"Wow, why do you people always love saying that? If you’ve got something up your sleeve, show it. Stop wasting my time."
Wang Bert cut Thanos off and said impatiently, "Thanos, no matter how many times you resurrect, I’ll crush you to death. In the cruelest way possible."
"You can’t kill me. Today’s victor will only be me."
Thanos roared and summoned more than a hundred Thanoses again. The gray Thanoses immediately charged toward the new ones. At that moment, every Thanos except the real Thanos and the gray Thanoses lit up with dazzling purple light, including those currently fighting the Super Heroes.
"Wow, Thanos, you really have no sense of fair play."
Wang Bert was not flustered, because he had anticipated this situation. He clapped his hands, and all the Super Heroes were transferred back to the spectator space. At the same time, Wang Bert and the Thanoses returned to Arena World.
As the Space Lord, Wang Bert found this effortless.
The moment Wang Bert finished, the hundred-plus Thanoses exploded with a thunderous boom. Purple light swept through everything, leveling all of Arena World. Even Wang Bert and Thanos himself were blown to pieces on the spot.
"Bert! Blood God!"
The Super Heroes cried out in alarm, their hearts filled with worry. Could Blood God survive such a terrifying explosion?
As the purple storm gradually subsided, Thanos appeared out of thin air in Arena World. He laughed loudly. "Blood God, so what if you’re strong? Can you withstand a move that hurts me as much as it hurts you?"
"You resurrected so slowly. I’ve been waiting forever."
Along with those words, a fist carrying invincible conviction smashed into Thanos’s head. Thanos’s head burst like a watermelon on the spot.
Then, Wang Bert placed his hand on Thanos’s headless body. The body rapidly disintegrated into its most basic particles.
"Long live Blood God!"
Seeing that Wang Bert was alive, the Super Heroes cheered. Sure enough, Blood God never let them down.
At that moment, Thanos resurrected in the distance. He shouted in disbelief, "Why didn’t you die?"
Wang Bert spread his hands and asked in surprise, "Didn’t you know I’m immortal? It’s my signature move!"
"Of course I know you’re immortal, but my explosion carried the Concept of Destruction. Even with immortality, you should have been blown to death."
Thanos shouted. Wang Bert smiled. "Sorry, but your Concept of Destruction can’t destroy me."
As long as blood still existed in this universe, Wang Bert would not die. He was just that terrifying.
"That’s impossible."
Unwilling to give up, Thanos continued summoning variants to bombard Wang Bert. Wang Bert struck a boss-like pose and awaited the explosion.
Soon, the storm subsided. Thanos resurrected again, but before he could do anything, Wang Bert blew him apart.
And that was not the end. Afterward, no matter where Thanos resurrected, Wang Bert would immediately appear before him and smash his head apart.
"I’d like to see just how many variants you have."
Wang Bert sneered. Despair filled Thanos’s heart. He knew that he had lost, completely and utterly. Fortunately, he had hidden a variant outside. Otherwise, he truly would have died this time.
Blood God was simply too powerful. He could not even defeat a single one of his avatars.
Though unwilling, Thanos was not someone incapable of accepting defeat. He took a deep breath, and his voice rang through Arena World. "Blood God, I lost this time. But next time, I will never lose again."
"You’re admitting defeat already? Thanos, you’ve disappointed me too much."
Wang Bert scoffed. "You didn’t even force out a single one of my trump cards. Everyone knows that Blood God is famous for having lots of money, lots of women, and lots of treasures."
Thanos fell silent for a moment. Then he said, "I’ve already figured out what happened with Fair Space. Blood God, the next time we meet will be the day you die."
Wang Bert said, "Fair Space is famous for being fair. What happened this time will be exactly the same next time."
"And you have the nerve to talk about fairness?"
Thanos snorted coldly. He did not waste any more words. He sacrificed his body and several hundred variants, while the remaining variant broke through Fair Space with his true spirit and returned to the variant inside New Sanctuary.
Inside New Sanctuary, the hidden Thanos variant suddenly began convulsing. After a moment, he returned to normal and let out a long breath. Fortunately, he had made preparations beforehand. Otherwise, he truly would have died at Blood God’s hands this time.
Blood God was simply too terrifying!
"This is not a place to linger."
Just as Thanos was about to control New Sanctuary and leave, Blood God’s voice suddenly echoed in his mind. "Do you think you can escape?"
Along with that voice, Thanos’s body gradually began turning gray. Thanos’s expression changed drastically, and he hurriedly split off a variant. Unfortunately, the grayness on his body did not vanish; its spread merely slowed somewhat.
At that moment, the variant Thanos had split off turned gray and attacked Thanos with a savage expression.
Thanos killed the variant with a punch and shouted in fury and shock, "Blood God, what did you do?"
Wang Bert’s voice rang out again. "Nothing much. I merely spread the deadly poison to all your variants. If you were in your original body, this poison would have no effect on you. Unfortunately, the body you’re using now is a variant’s."
"Damn it."
As Thanos continuously split off variants to slow the spread, he activated New Sanctuary and traversed space to flee. He knew very well that Wang Bert would soon come after him.
In fact, the moment New Sanctuary teleported away, Wang Bert appeared. He snorted coldly and followed the spatial fluctuations in pursuit.
Thanos’s mistake was revealing the existence of his variants. Since Wang Bert knew he was not dead, how could he possibly let the matter rest?
After teleporting more than ten times in succession, Wang Bert suddenly stopped in space, frowning slightly. Why had the spatial fluctuations disappeared?
"Someone is helping Thanos. At the very least, they’re an ancient god."
Wang Bert was quite displeased. If his main body were here, Thanos definitely would not have escaped. The problem was that he was only a god-level avatar.
"I don’t know who you are, but you will definitely pay for what you’ve done this time."
Wang Bert snorted coldly and flicked his hand, teleporting back to Green Forest Star.
After Wang Bert left, a massive figure with six eyes emerged from the void. It looked at the place where Wang Bert had been standing, shook its head, and traversed the void to a planet.
Thanos’s New Sanctuary was on that planet. As Thanos killed the infected variants one after another, he asked the giant that had appeared, "Why is your Celestial Group helping me?"
That was right, the ones helping Thanos were the Celestial Group. Its name was Arishem, the one who had created the Eternals.
"I am not helping you. I am protecting this universe."
Arishem said, "I need you to help me kill someone."
Thanos asked, "Who? Blood God?"
"No, Iron Man Tony Stark."
Arishem said, "He must die. Otherwise, he will endanger this universe."
"Iron Man?"
Thanos froze. He asked, "Why don’t you do it yourselves?"
"Because of Blood God."
Arishem answered, "We do not wish to come into direct conflict with Blood God. We cannot afford to offend Blood God’s main body, so we can only borrow your strength."
"Your Celestial Group can’t afford to offend Blood God’s main body?"
Thanos was stunned. He asked, "That can’t be possible, can it? Even the Five Creator Gods would not dare underestimate the strength of your Celestial Group."
"You have no idea how powerful Blood God is."
Arishem looked at Thanos with pity. "According to intelligence sent from the Celestial Group in the Main Universe, even the Living Tribunal may not be Blood God’s match. Therefore, we do not dare truly offend him. Otherwise, he will descend upon this universe personally and destroy us, perhaps even this entire universe."
Thanos asked in shock, "Even the Living Tribunal is no match for him? How is that possible? How many years has he even lived?"
Arishem said, "Nothing is impossible. Don’t forget, one mere avatar of his defeated you. If I had not intervened, you would already have fallen."
Thanos’s expression was extremely ugly, but he had no retort, because Arishem was right. Blood God truly was terrifying.
"Blood God holds grudges. Since you helped me this time, he definitely won’t let you off."
Thanos said, "I think you should team up with me to destroy Blood God’s avatar. Then I will take the Materialism Power and return to the Main Universe to kill Blood God."
"Even with the Materialism Power, you may not be able to kill Blood God."
Arishem still shook his head. "Blood God does hold grudges, but he is a grudge-holder with a strong sense of responsibility. Our Celestial Group is an indispensable part of the universe. For the sake of the universe, he will not wipe out the Celestial Group completely. At most, he will kill me.
"Of course, that is only if we do not offend him too deeply. Therefore, the other Celestials and I cannot act personally."
"I can’t defeat Blood God."
Seeing that he could not persuade Arishem, Thanos pointed at his chest and said, "I couldn’t defeat him before, and now that I’ve been poisoned, I’m even less capable of doing so. In fact, I may not even live much longer. Blood God’s methods are too terrifying."
Thanos was somewhat afraid of Blood God. This man was simply too terrifying. Whether in strength or wisdom, Thanos had been utterly crushed by him.
