Fifth Element (First 3K Update)
In this world, you can obtain and unlock the following milestones. Milestones will affect mission ratings and title acquisition.Spirit Toucher (Rare)—Successfully touch a spirit body and survive.Curse Apprentice—Trigger more than five types of curses and survive.Exorcism Novice—Exorcise at least ten cursed spirits.Lucky One—Participate in a Spirit Disaster and successfully survive.Black Flash (Rare)—Successfully trigger Black Flash at least three times.Just from the milestones alone, Bai Cangshu could tell just how ominous this world was.
Bai Cangshu stood in the shadows, his heartbeat slow. The enormous arm withdrew from the shattered wall, revealing the vague outline of its true body—a huge, twisted mass of flesh.
The pressure emitted by this monster was far beyond anything the Hand Demon from the Demon Slayer World could compare to.
More importantly, it was undoubtedly a spirit body, a cursed spirit—an invisible monster that ordinary people could not even see.
Bai Cangshu looked at the curse mark on his left hand. At this moment, although he could see these cursed spirits and monsters, he was somewhat lacking in the means to fight them.
Cursed spirits were not Man-eating Demons. They would not die directly from sunlight. Although positive energy like Hamon could have some effect on them, it did not counter them particularly well.
Cursed spirits were special lifeforms formed from negative emotions and energy such as fear and cursed power. They could freely walk beneath the sun and kill people.
Bai Cangshu now confirmed that his best method for dealing damage to cursed spirits was undoubtedly Secret Rite: Inari God’s Strike. As an ability originating from a god worshipped by Shintoism, it had excellent compatibility against Demonic Evil and ghostly creatures.
Bai Cangshu turned and walked to the other side. A tattered sheet of paper flew over, and he casually caught it. Clear words appeared before his eyes.
Main Mission ActivatedMain Mission, Phase One: Successfully escape Silent City: Tokyo within three days.Success Reward: Unlock the next phase of the mission. Reward: E-rank Anomaly Point ×1, 1,000 Dimensional Points. This Main Mission only displayed rewards and did not list any penalty for failure. To Bai Cangshu, it was practically spelling out that something horrifying would happen in Tokyo three days later—so horrifying that the Reincarnation Space considered remaining in Tokyo after three days to be the greatest punishment.
Bai Cangshu lightly leaped up, his body nimble. He moved swiftly without making much sound, and after only a few steps, he had reached the edge of the plaza. The surroundings were exceedingly quiet.
The vehicles on the broad main road had long been abandoned, and cracks had formed in the concrete pavement.
Bai Cangshu suddenly raised his head. Several figures emerged from the building opposite him, while two more appeared to his left.
These people were clearly dressed like reincarnators, and their Avatars were quite distinctive.
Since Avatars could not be seen by Plot Characters, they were actually one way for reincarnators to identify one another.
Of course, some reincarnators would do the opposite and deliberately disguise themselves as Plot Characters.
Seeing that none of them had made any noise, these reincarnators understood that no one here was an idiot.
The leader of the three-man group opposite Bai Cangshu pointed toward an open stretch of road ahead, where there were no buildings around to block the view.
If they talked in a place like that, they would have enough time to react even if cursed spirits appeared.
The three-man group and the two-man group both headed over, intending to exchange information. Their gazes also drifted toward Bai Cangshu from time to time.
They had all noticed that a "lone wolf" had somehow slipped into this dangerous mission.
Because reincarnators had things like Bloody Drop Cards, it was difficult for them to establish trust with one another.
Yet the high danger of being a reincarnator still forced many people to quickly band together and form teams.
As they completed more missions, those unable to adapt to the unique environment of the Reincarnation Space would gradually be weeded out.
Lone wolf players were often eliminated first. Once someone harbored malicious intentions, a team could always kill a lone wolf more easily.
But conversely, any lone wolf who had successfully survived long enough to enter a mission world this difficult even among Bing-level missions was certainly no simple character.
"Looks like everyone here is a smart person, so I’ll get straight to the point. This world has clearly been ruined by certain reincarnators. Satoru Gojo is dead, the plot has become unrecognizable, and the information advantage we originally had has been greatly reduced."
"And considering how dangerous our current environment is, infighting would not be a wise decision."
The man who spoke was the leader of the three-man group. His Avatar was a burly, middle-aged man with a thick beard, dressed in a black leather jacket. Bai Cangshu noticed several silver rings on his hands and guessed that they might be some kind of special equipment.
Of the two standing behind him, one was a tall, thin young man with a ponytail and a monocle, carrying a sniper rifle on his back. He was the typical shooting-specialized reincarnator who posed a powerful threat to other reincarnators.
The other wore a hood that concealed his face. He held a short staff set with a Ruby, dressed like a spellcaster.
This team looked like a standard party composition: melee vanguard, spellcaster, and high-damage shooter. Those capable of such coordination were most likely a stable team with an extremely high level of trust in one another.
"Let me introduce myself first. I’m the captain of the Last Hit team, codenamed Li De. The three of us are all Bing-level reincarnators, and we possess specialized attacks against cursed spirits."
This man codenamed Li De clearly had some judgment. As the largest and seemingly most advantaged team present, he had taken the initiative to suggest that this was not the time for infighting.
Usually, that would win the support of the weakest party at the moment—the lone wolf player.
Whether out of goodwill or ill intent, it was never wrong to seize control of a temporary team.
The two-man group exchanged glances and chimed in as well.
"I’m codenamed Mai, and this one is codenamed Sakurako. We’re also Bing-level, and we both have specialized attacks against cursed spirits."
The two-man group did not reveal much information. Still, with two men using code names like that, Bai Cangshu guessed they were probably not very old in real life, perhaps the otaku type.
Everyone then looked at Bai Cangshu just as he was about to speak.
Boom!
The enormous explosion made everyone’s expressions change. The distant buildings seemed to awaken in an instant as a pitch-black aura began to spread. Large numbers of bizarre-looking cursed spirits emerged from the buildings.
The source of the sound was a type of firework. After exploding in the night sky, it formed a special pattern: four small lights arranged in a diamond around one massive light.
"Move! It’s the Fifth Element!"
"That group is gathering their teammates!"
The reincarnator codenamed Li De clearly recognized this special firework signal.
Bai Cangshu, on the other hand, had only been a reincarnator for a short time and had no connections in the Reincarnation Space, so he had no idea who this so-called Fifth Element was.
The group did not have time to wait for Bai Cangshu’s introduction and quickly scattered to flee.
The loose alliance that had just been about to form a temporary team instantly collapsed.
In the face of danger, a loose alliance was often less reliable than fleeing for one’s life separately. No one could be sure whether someone else would stab them in the back at a critical moment.
The three-man group went straight to a car by the roadside. Li De yanked on the door, tearing it directly off. The man with the sniper rifle got into the driver’s seat, fiddled with it for a moment, and successfully started the vehicle.
The other two took two skateboards directly from their Backpacks. Once they stepped on them and kicked off hard, devices resembling thrusters activated beneath the boards, rapidly sending them racing down the road at eighty miles per hour.
At that moment, Bai Cangshu realized that he was still lacking something.
Mobility.
Although he was incredibly fast in close combat, when facing large-scale Main Missions, he lacked convenient transportation.
He could not possibly rely entirely on Plot Characters or the Plot World’s public transportation whenever he entered a mission world.
After thinking for a moment, he spoke to the three-man group whose car had just started and was about to leave.
"Hey, mind giving me a ride?"
Bai Cangshu had always obeyed the law and did not possess the skill of "stealing cars."
Hearing Bai Cangshu’s words, Li De’s group of three all felt that this guy with the hideously ugly Avatar was indeed a little different.
"You’re sure you want to get in our car?"
Li De was certain that a normal lone wolf reincarnator would never travel alone with a three-man team in a world where Bloody Drop Cards could be obtained.
That was practically placing one’s life in the hands of other reincarnators’ so-called "morality."
But reincarnators were a group of bandits who plagued the Myriad Worlds, plundering the resources of countless worlds to strengthen themselves. Looking for morality among them was no different from looking for a millionaire beneath a bridge.
Bai Cangshu answered with his actions. He climbed directly into the back seat, shut the door, and said,
"Don’t worry. I generally don’t take the initiative to attack other people."
Li De was about to say more when the hooded spellcaster spoke first.
"Let’s go first. We can talk later."
This spellcaster was a female reincarnator.
The car launched forward at once. There were plenty of abandoned vehicles on the road, but the driver was clearly skilled, weaving through them at considerable speed as they rapidly left the city center.
Li De sat in the back seat, remaining wary of Bai Cangshu.
In his eyes, Bai Cangshu was either an idiot or someone who truly had some skills.
A lone wolf who had survived this long could not possibly be an idiot.
As the vehicle sped onward, Li De clenched his right hand. Bai Cangshu noticed that the silvery-white rings on his fingers seemed to be glowing faintly.
"You should introduce yourself now, shouldn’t you, Mr. Lone Wolf?"
While surveying the surroundings, Bai Cangshu answered. Visibility was poor beneath the night sky, but judging from the Main Mission’s objective of escaping Tokyo, they were probably still somewhere within Tokyo’s urban area.
"Mercenary Tao. I suppose you could call me a melee-specialized reincarnator."
Click.
As he spoke, a shotgun suddenly appeared in Bai Cangshu’s hand, and he instantly chambered a round.
Li De’s scalp tingled as he instinctively threw a punch.
"Careful! Something is rapidly approaching from behind!"
The spellcaster in the front passenger seat gave a sharp warning.
Bai Cangshu tilted his head, dodging the punch as he brought the shotgun’s barrel almost directly against Li De’s shoulder and pulled the trigger.
Boom!
As the car door exploded outward, the terrifying blast made Li De’s eardrums ache. But he immediately reacted and spun around, just in time to see a reincarnator with both arms spread wide, spinning several times through the air before vanishing from view.
"It’s a Fifth Element scout! Drive into the commercial district!"
