God’s Hair

"Please note: this border crossing has been closed. All East Xia citizens are prohibited from entering Myanmar."

A squad of soldiers in immaculate uniforms, armed with live ammunition, had sealed off the border.

This left some independent travelers, as well as people intending to cross for other purposes, returning in disappointment.

Before long, however, some well-informed people managed to learn a few details.

"I heard a strange infectious disease appeared near that new city in Myanmar!"

"What disease? It’s a plague! Fuck, it’s creepy as hell. My cousin over there said his whole family is still hiding in their basement, and they often hear ghosts wailing aboveground."

"Still calling it a plague? It’s definitely a supernatural phenomenon over there. Haven’t you seen the videos on YouTube? It’s become a full-blown disaster movie!"

Among the group whose travel plans had been blocked and who had yet to leave, voices rose one after another.

Several men and women carrying no luggage, who looked like local tourists, exchanged glances before turning and heading in another direction.

"Looks like the rumors in the space were true. That lunatic Mercenary Tao released a meme into the real world."

A woman propped her chin on her hand and looked at the others.

"Are we still going? The danger level of that meme is hard to assess. I heard it’s the Sweet Home type, and neither its infection method nor its means of transmission is clear…"

She looked somewhat inclined to back out.

But another, smaller girl said,

"Of course we’re going. Why wouldn’t we?"

"That Sweet Home curse, put simply, makes you undergo a corresponding mutation based on whatever desire you have. As long as you can resist it, you get an Ability for free!"

"I think it’s a gift from His Excellency Mercenary Tao to reincarnators… Ability Users heading to Paradise!"

The female reincarnator codenamed Mishian made no effort to hide that she was a Mercenary Tao devotee, which only made the others hesitate even more.

Strangely enough, Mercenary Tao, an indisputable villain infamous for his brutality and for slaughtering reincarnators, had won the worship of quite a few reincarnators.

Once these reincarnators learned that Mercenary Tao would offer protection to reincarnators entering Paradise, they had almost immediately decided to go.

The thin young man wore a sun hat and black-rimmed glasses.

Ye Kai, codenamed Professor, was an official reincarnator of Azure Sky. He had many identities and had seen all sorts of reincarnators.

Yet even now, he could not understand those who worshipped a lunatic like Mercenary Tao for no reason.

Was it worship of violence, or simply worship of the strong?

Behind him stood a tall woman in an enormous sun hat. She had a fiery figure, and contrary to Bai Cangshu and Professor’s earlier assumptions, the woman codenamed Elizabeth was indeed tall and strikingly hot in reality as well.

She was from an ethnic minority, with a high nose bridge and fair skin. Plenty of people had been drawn to her along the way, and she had long since grown impatient.

"Is that really important?"

"Since none of us want to register and be supervised, since we’re all selfish scum who don’t want to serve our country or its people, then no matter how chaotic Paradise is, don’t we still have to go there?"

Elizabeth spoke in a mocking tone. The others immediately frowned in displeasure.

"How are we scum?!"

"We’re this weak. What’s wrong with wanting to survive on our own?!"

Just as an argument was about to break out, Liu Mingqi coughed and opened his eyes.

Buzz!

It was as though the sound of a sword ringing had arisen from nowhere. An intense sharpness burst from his body, startling the others into instinctively retreating several steps.

Seeing their reactions, Ye Kai realized that this group was probably genuinely weak. He had no interest in arguing with them further.

He turned and took Elizabeth and Liu Qi into a taxi, heading in another direction.

"Sorry, Uncle Liu, Sister Elizabeth. I really do have reasons why I can’t stay in East Xia and register."

From the front passenger seat, Ye Kai turned back and smiled apologetically at his two companions. He had entered the space with his own purpose and could not be tied down by East Xia at this point, so he had chosen to leave East Xia and enter Paradise to lie low for the time being.

But Elizabeth and Liu Qi had originally planned to join the East Xia Special Affairs Bureau and become official reincarnators.

Liu Qi in particular was over forty and rather old-fashioned. He had intended to use the swordsmanship inherited from his family, along with the specialty he had acquired in the space, to teach for East Xia’s authorities and take the opportunity to have them reopen general ancient martial arts education.

Yet in the end, both chose to follow Professor.

"Ah, it’s fine, it’s fine. Professor… Xiao Ye, you have your difficulties. We’ve gone through so much together, so of course we trust you!"

After discussing it, the three ultimately got out at the place closest to the border and crossed on foot.

All three were reincarnators. With no one else obstructing them, they soon crossed the border and entered the dense forest.

Crack, crack…

There were quite a few sounds in the woods. The three exchanged looks, all somewhat surprised.

There were actually so many reincarnators choosing to head for Paradise!

Elizabeth in particular had ears that had become long and pointed. They twitched as she rapidly called out numbers.

"Forty-six… forty-seven. No, there are forty-eight sets of footsteps to the east!"

Liu Qi looked up at the sky and added,

"And some are flying…"

Ye Kai looked up and indeed saw several figures swiftly passing overhead with the aid of various unusual flying devices.

Mercenary Tao’s Paradise had attracted so many reincarnators. The scale of this was far larger than he had expected.

Perhaps Paradise really would become a special gathering place for reincarnators existing in the real world!

This should have been a good thing, but when he remembered that this place was controlled by someone with Mercenary Tao’s methods…

Ye Kai could not shake the feeling that another Finality Empire was rising…

"My lord, among the material listings we have acquired so far, these are the ones that best match your preferences."

Jin Yue’an seemed to be replacing Black Butler as Bai Cangshu’s personal advisor in the space.

This woman handled matters efficiently, and she considered everything entirely from Bai Cangshu’s perspective. Even more rarely, she seemed to have begun grasping Bai Cangshu’s preferences!

Bai Cangshu looked over the several listings before him.

At the top was a large bundle of glowing white strands of hair.

Though they were called hair strands, they looked more like fluorescent tubes in thickness. At their upper ends, each was still connected to a fingernail-sized bit of flesh.

God's Hair
Quality: World's Rare Treasure
Description: The Gigai left behind after a being regarded as a god in a certain world was blasted to death. It possessed immense energy.
Effect: After appraisal, obtain material smelting information.

When she saw Bai Cangshu’s gaze settle on that listing, Jin Yue’an immediately added,

"This item came from… Secondary World B711."

Bai Cangshu’s expression shifted as he looked at Jin Yue’an. Jin Yue’an immediately nodded, confirming the guess Bai Cangshu had yet to voice.

"Yes, it’s the Secondary World you experienced, my lord. There’s a strong chance this is the Gigai left behind after Saitama killed the god. No one knows which team obtained it, but it has been hidden away until now."

"The reincarnator trading with us is codenamed One Sword Red, and he refuses to trade after appraisal."

"However, Black Butler and I analyzed it. There is an extremely high chance that energy-related attributes will appear after appraisal, because… that god seemed to excel most at directly bestowing immense energy."

Bai Cangshu nodded. Refusing to trade after appraisal was a crafty choice, as it meant the other party was not confident in its value after appraisal.

And the other party was eager to sell it at a high price!

"What does he want?"

Jin Yue’an lowered her head to check her tablet before saying,

"A killing. He wants to ask you to kill someone for him!"

The corners of Bai Cangshu’s mouth curled up, and a smile appeared almost instantly. He patted Jin Yue’an on the shoulder.

This woman truly understood what he wanted.

Behind her glasses, Jin Yue’an’s gaze flickered. Rare excitement surfaced within her—not because she had received praise, but because she had confirmed her own guess.

She was getting closer to understanding Lord Mercenary Tao’s way of thinking!

She continued, taking out more documents.

"The people he wants killed belong to a team called Mottled Light Color. There are only three members, and all of them are Title-level…"

"Give me the coordinates."

Bai Cangshu interrupted Jin Yue’an. He no longer cared about Title-level opponents.
