Going to Watch the Show Together
Charles mentioned that Sebastian Shaw would send Emma Frost to the Soviet Union. This move caught Charles and Erik’s attention, so the two of them, along with Moira MacTaggert, the CIA agent who had found Charles earlier, tracked her there in hopes of capturing Sebastian.
What they had not expected was that Sebastian himself had not appeared in the Soviet Union. Instead, he struck back at Charles and the others’ hiding place, raiding the base and throwing several mutants they had just recruited into trouble.
Armando, codenamed Darwin, died tragically, while Salvador, codenamed Angel, was recruited by Sebastian.
The others, such as Raven, the shapeshifter, and Hank, Beast, along with several other future key members of the X-Men or the Brotherhood of Mutants, were not harmed. It was clear that Sebastian was rather tolerant toward his "own kind." Even when Alex Summers launched a "hula hoop" attack at him, he did not kill the still-inexperienced Havok.
"So your plan is for us to stay here and wait?"
"If Emma hadn’t lured us to the Soviet Union, would Sebastian still have shown up?"
Sebastian had clearly only come because the two most mature and powerful mutants were absent. He wanted to try recruiting the young mutants Charles had gathered under his own banner.
If Charles and Erik had not taken the bait and left after he sent Emma out, then he most likely would not have made this trip.
To Sebastian, everything served his plan. Coming here to recruit a few young people had merely been a convenient extra, as well as a way to annoy Charles and Erik.
"So if we don’t leave, he won’t show up."
Under normal circumstances, this plan would have fallen into an endless loop, making it seem as if they could only abandon the operation. Especially since Charles knew that once he left, Sebastian would attack this place.
The young mutants would not be in much danger. As long as Armando and Alex did not step forward again, Sebastian would not lay a hand on them.
But dozens, perhaps hundreds, of CIA agents would be slaughtered. Charles did not want to see that happen. If it could be avoided, it was best not to let it happen at all.
"You can proceed to the Soviet Union according to the original plan. That way, you can still capture Emma."
Emma Frost was Sebastian’s most capable assistant. She was also a Master Telepath with a Mind Control Ability, second only to Professor X, Charles Xavier, in terms of Mental Power. Beyond her formidable Mental Power, she could transform into Diamond Form. In that form, she was immune to all Mental Abilities. Even Charles could not invade, much less control, Emma’s mind.
"And you’ll stay here to wait for Sebastian?"
This was currently the best plan. Sebastian Shaw did not know that Yinsen and the others had arrived, much less what they could do. Even if he obtained information through some insider, at most he would learn that Charles had found a few more mutants. The confident Black King Sebastian would never take a few unknown nobodies seriously.
"We can discuss it properly with Moira."
Moira was the female agent who had found Charles. At present, she served as the liaison between Charles and the CIA, while also acting as the CIA’s eyes among the mutants, monitoring these people with special abilities to ensure they did not do anything "harmful."
After calling Moira over, they found that the female agent had no idea what had happened here. She only felt that Charles seemed slightly different, but no matter how carefully she observed him, the Charles before her was still that same young professor.
After a brief introduction, Charles did not explain Yinsen and the others’ identities in too much detail. Having gained memories of the future, he knew exactly what the CIA people were like. He was willing to trust Moira, but he could not trust her superiors.
Besides, judging from how things had originally unfolded, Sebastian attacked as soon as they left. He clearly had informants within the CIA. Revealing too much would be the same as handing intelligence directly to the enemy.
Fortunately, Moira herself did not care much about it. She simply greeted Yinsen and the others, then showed them around the facility as she had before.
As for the plan to deal with Sebastian, neither Charles nor Yinsen discussed it much. Charles had already learned from Logan just how formidable Yinsen was. He did not believe Sebastian could gain any advantage against Yinsen.
With the plan settled, all that remained was to wait quietly for the right moment. Moira showed Yinsen and the others around, arranged rooms for them, and then went off to handle her own work.
Because of her position, the CIA often required her to submit reports, so she had to travel back and forth between both sides. She could not remain at this base, where so many young mutants had gathered, for long periods of time.
Fortunately, they were all young people. Rather than wanting supervision, they were happier without it. Before long, they had become quite familiar with one another. They were just as welcoming toward Yinsen and the others, though they repeatedly hit walls with Ada and Logan.
Logan had no common ground with these kids. He only wanted to find a quiet place and enjoy some peaceful time. He could not stand such a noisy environment.
Ada was very polite, but after spending some time with her, one would realize that beneath those perfect manners, she simply wanted to maintain enough distance from everyone.
Even Yinsen could not truly blend in with this group of "young people." He found that he had fewer and fewer topics to discuss with ordinary people. Every day, he thought either about becoming stronger or achieving immortality. In the occasional gaps, he still had to fulfill his promises or deal with sudden crises.
"It feels like it’s been a long time since I experienced such carefree days."
Logan sat in a corner, his favorite cigar still clenched between his teeth.
"They won’t be able to enjoy this kind of life for much longer, so I don’t want to spoil their fun."
As one of the mutants, Logan knew what kind of days awaited these young people in the future. That was why he had not stopped them from going wild. This was the last bit of happy time they had left.
"But what about you? Why not have some fun?"
"I’m not a mutant."
Yinsen had indeed used quite a few Enhancement Drugs on himself, some of which contained part of Logan’s genes, but that had not turned him into a mutant.
"Besides, the main event is about to begin."
Sebastian arrived quickly. Judging by the timing, Charles and Erik might have only just set foot on Soviet soil when that man came charging in, believing that even if Charles learned what was happening here, he would not be able to return in time.
But he could never have imagined that a special variable like Yinsen existed here.
"I’m going to meet this Black King. Want to come along?"
"Of course. It’s pretty boring here too."
Ada stood up as well. She was curious about the so-called Black King’s abilities. She had joined Yinsen’s team precisely to witness all kinds of strange and unusual situations. For her first adventure to bring her to such an interesting world had left her extremely satisfied. Now, she wanted to see just how powerful this enemy, who was probably a major boss, really was.
Seeing them get up and head outside, Raven was the first to ask where they were going.
"To watch the show."
Raven did not understand what Yinsen meant, but she was curious about everything. "Hey, if it’s something interesting, why not call everyone along?"
Logan glanced at Yinsen, seeming to blame him for saying too much, but Yinsen did not care. He simply waved his hand. "Anyone interested can come along."
Raven had not expected Yinsen to invite them. They looked at one another, feeling that sitting around here was indeed boring. If Yinsen could take them to watch something exciting, why sit stupidly in their rooms?
"Let’s go, let’s go!"
The young people immediately made up their minds and swarmed over, preparing to follow Yinsen to see this so-called show, even though they had no idea what was about to happen.
They had not gone far when strange sounds drifted in from outside. Yinsen knew that Azazel was using his ability to send the guards high into the air, then letting them fall freely to the ground.
The guards stationed here had already realized that someone had infiltrated the base. A fully armed special operations team blocked Yinsen and the others’ path, ordering them to return to their rooms and stay there obediently.
"You can’t handle the enemy. If you don’t want all your partners to die, you’d better move aside."
Raven and the others had already realized that something was wrong, but not one of the bold young people wanted to back down. Instead, they felt this was their moment to show what they could do, so as soon as Logan finished speaking, they began shouting in agreement behind him.
But the special operations soldiers ignored them, only repeating, "Go back! Go back!"
Their mission was to protect these "strange" young people. They did not care what these people said. They only wanted to complete their assignment.
Yinsen had expected this, so he did not waste any more words. Once he confirmed that they would not clear the way, he lightly flicked his right hand. The ring on it flashed with a faint blue glow, and a blue circle appeared beneath the special operations soldiers’ feet. The soldiers standing within it immediately fell through. Then another circle appeared in the corridor behind Yinsen, and the soldiers tumbled out of it, rolling into a heap.
"Cool!"
The young people assumed this was Yinsen’s ability and never considered any other possibility.
In truth, this was a simple application of Teleportation Magic. As Yinsen’s strength steadily increased, using this kind of spell had become effortless for him. The ring on his hand had also changed from his primary casting tool into a purely auxiliary item.
