Immortal Sword Three: Street Performance

Mao Jiu smiled faintly at Su Yu’s words. "Husband, it seems you have your own plans. Then I’ll go back and find Yi Yi and the others first. They’re still waiting for me in other worlds."

Su Yu smiled and nodded slightly. "You all even went to other worlds for fun? Hurry back. Those little girls can’t be left alone in another world without anyone watching over them."

Mao Jiu nodded, then left.

After sending Yao Lao a message, Su Yu summoned a door. He stepped through it and returned to All Heavens Palace.

The door vanished within All Heavens Palace, and scene after scene appeared. Su Yu looked around before finding the world he wanted to visit.

The scene showed an ancient pawnshop, where a somewhat roguish-looking young man was staring at an antique.

This world was Immortal Sword Three, and the person in the scene was Jing Tian. Back when he had watched television dramas, Immortal Sword Three had been one of the first dramas he had liked. This time, Su Yu intended to approach these people as an ordinary person and see whether he could do something beneficial for this world. After all, he still had to figure out how to obtain World Power.

Su Yu tapped the scene. The view plunged underground, and a door rose from the earth. Su Yu then walked inside.

Su Yu’s vision flashed white, and he appeared beside a deserted stream. He had wanted to appear directly on the streets of Yu Zhou City, but suddenly materializing there would have frightened the ordinary people on the street. Thus, he appeared beside a stream outside Yu Zhou City instead.

Su Yu wore the robes of a white-clad scholar, which did not look unusual in this world. Reassured, he headed toward Yu Zhou City. Once he entered the city, it would be inconvenient to summon the Taigu Yiyin Qin, so he simply carried it on his back.

Su Yu soon arrived in Yu Zhou City and planned to find somewhere to stay. But in the next moment, he froze. He seemed to have no money. Just as Su Yu was about to take out the Infinity Gauntlet and make some silver, he remembered that he had just said he would only use the guqin…

"Damn it, I can’t just slap myself in the face… What do I do now? Sigh, I guess I’ll perform on the street…" Su Yu smiled bitterly and could only find a street with an empty stall.

Su Yu claimed the stall. There happened to be a charcoal seller next door, so Su Yu looked at the old man selling charcoal and said, "Sir, I left home in a hurry and didn’t bring any money, so I want to perform here and earn some. Could you lend me a piece of charcoal?"

The old man replied kindly, "Who hasn’t had hard times? It’s only a piece of charcoal. Take it, young man."

As he spoke, the old man handed Su Yu a piece of charcoal. Su Yu accepted it and thanked him. "Thank you, sir. If I manage to earn some money later, I’ll give you half."

The old man smiled and waved his hand. "No need, no need. Young man, you don’t look like you come from an ordinary family. You ran away from home, didn’t you?"

With an expression that said he had seen through everything, the old man continued, "You should go back early. Don’t make your family worry too much."

Su Yu gave a bitter laugh. It would not hurt to make up an identity, so he went along with it. "All right, sir. I just wanted to come out and make my own way. I didn’t want to use my family’s money."

The old man smiled and patted Su Yu on the shoulder. "I understand, young man. You don’t even have a place to stay. If you don’t mind, come stay at my home for a few days."

The old man did not believe Su Yu could earn any money. He could not bear to see Su Yu sleeping on the streets, which was why he invited him home. He had also seen plenty of young masters before and believed Su Yu would not last more than a few days before obediently returning home.

Su Yu smiled. "Of course I don’t mind, but I still have to pay rent. Sir, you don’t believe I can earn money, do you? Just wait and see."

As he spoke, Su Yu began writing on the ground with the charcoal.

Before long, Su Yu had written several lines on the ground in front of his stall.

The words were extremely straightforward: "Street performance. If you think it sounds good, please spare a little coin."

The old man seemed to have studied for a few years. When he saw what Su Yu had written, he was somewhat dumbfounded. It was his first time seeing someone perform like this, and he became even more certain that Su Yu was a young master who had come out merely to have fun.

Su Yu’s handwriting quickly drew a crowd. People liked novelty, after all, and this way of performing had indeed never appeared before.

One man spoke up. "Brother, you look dignified, and your handwriting has the bearing of a master. Why are you performing here?"

Su Yu smiled bitterly. "I left in a hurry and forgot my money pouch, so I can only perform to earn some silver. Enough small talk. Please listen to a piece first, then decide whether to give me any silver."

As he spoke, Su Yu sat cross-legged on the ground, took out the guqin, and placed it across his lap. He could not let the guqin float in the air; that would attract far too much attention.

Many people around him watched Su Yu curiously, and there was quite a bit of chatter. But the instant Su Yu’s fingers plucked the strings, every sound fell silent.

Zheng, zheng, zheng, zheng… Zheng, zheng, zheng…

After Su Yu finished playing Guangling Melody, which carried no special effects, it was a long while before a man who looked like the head of a wealthy household shouted, "Good! Good! Good! I have traveled far and wide and heard many people play the guqin, but among them all, this little brother’s skill is absolutely the finest!"

Su Yu looked at the speaker. He still remembered the television drama, and this seemed to be Tang Kun, the head of the Tang family.

Su Yu smiled in reply. "You flatter me, sir."

Tang Kun smiled and waved his hand. He knew full well just how extraordinary Su Yu’s skill with the guqin was. With such mastery and such an exceptional bearing, Tang Kun concluded that Su Yu was no ordinary man. He immediately looked at a servant beside him and said, "Go home and bring one hundred taels of silver. This little brother’s performance is worth one hundred taels."

"Yes."

The servant immediately ran home.

"Gasp…"

The people around them were all shocked by Tang Kun’s lavish gesture. Su Yu’s impression of Tang Kun immediately improved by several degrees, not because Tang Kun was generous, but because he could recognize the extraordinary nature of Guangling Melody.

Su Yu stood with a smile and cupped his fists toward Tang Kun. "My name is Su Yu. May I ask this elder’s name?"

"My name is Tang Kun, head of the Tang family in Yu Zhou City. If you need anything in the future, feel free to come find me," Tang Kun said with a smile. Naturally, he was happy to befriend talent.

"Master Tang, I truly need silver to survive at the moment, but I will not accept your silver for nothing. How about this? I can grant you three requests," Su Yu said, cupping his fists slightly.

Tang Kun’s hundred taels had undoubtedly saved Su Yu a great deal of trouble, which was why Su Yu made three promises.

A ruler’s promise was undoubtedly the most precious thing in this world. Once Tang Kun saw Su Yu’s methods in the future, he would certainly be grateful for what he had done today.
