Inviting Su Yu, West Street Courtyard
Tang Kun smiled. "There’s no need for any conditions, little brother Su Yu. It’s only a hundred taels of silver."
Su Yu smiled. "No matter what, I’ve already said it. Master Tang, from now on, you can use this to make a request of me at any time. Throw it onto the ground, and I will definitely appear immediately."
As he spoke, Su Yu somehow produced three Silver Dragon Jade Pendants in his hand. He had made them long ago and stored them in the Dominator Space, so it was just the right time to take them out and use them.
Tang Kun smiled bitterly. "Little brother Su Yu, I truly can’t see through you. This jade pendant is clearly no ordinary item. Even a hundred taels of silver probably couldn’t buy a corner of it. So why are you performing on the streets?"
Tang Kun had a sharp eye. The jade used to make the Silver Dragon Jade Pendants was precious even among the Myriad Realms; one glance was enough to tell that it was worth a fortune.
Su Yu smiled. "This jade pendant represents me. How could I sell it? Master Tang, take them. If you encounter danger in the future, you can smash one."
Su Yu was actually talking nonsense. He had simply forgotten that he could sell jade pendants for money.
Unable to refuse Su Yu, Tang Kun carefully wrapped up the three jade pendants. Su Yu shook his head with a smile. Seeing the look in Tang Kun’s eyes, he definitely would not be willing to smash a jade pendant in the future.
Before long, a Tang family servant brought over a hundred taels of silver. Tang Kun placed the money in Su Yu’s hand. He truly felt that he had made a huge profit, so he said, "Little brother Su Yu, I’ve gained quite a lot from you. You don’t have a place to stay yet, do you? Why not come live at Tang Mansion?"
Su Yu smiled and shook his head. "Master Tang, thank you for the invitation, but I’ve already found somewhere to stay."
Tang Kun said regretfully, "All right, then."
The more Tang Kun looked at Su Yu, the more he liked him. He even began to think about matching Su Yu with his daughter.
The servant beside Tang Kun suddenly whispered in Tang Kun’s ear, "Master, Miss is sixteen this year, but she has never found a teacher she is satisfied with. You could invite Young Master Su to be Miss’s teacher."
Tang Kun immediately nodded in agreement with a smile. Su Yu clearly possessed the bearing of a great master, and with such superb skill at the qin, his daughter would definitely be satisfied with this teacher.
Su Yu heard every word the servant said. He thought to himself, Sixteen… I think Tang Xuejian was eighteen when the plot began. Looks like there are still two years before the Chinese Paladin storyline starts.
Tang Kun clasped his fists toward Su Yu and said, "Little brother Su Yu, I have an unworthy daughter. I’ve found her many teachers, but she has never been satisfied. Could I ask you to be my daughter’s teacher?"
Su Yu smiled. "Master Tang, I’m afraid Miss Tang won’t be satisfied with me either."
"She definitely will. With just your skill at the qin, little brother Su Yu, my daughter will definitely like you." Tang Kun spoke with certainty. He was so certain because he had completely fallen in love with Su Yu’s qin music after hearing it.
Su Yu smiled. "All right, then. I happen to be unemployed, so I’ll give it a try."
"Good. I’ll have someone pick you up early tomorrow morning. By the way, where are you staying, little brother?" Tang Kun asked with a smile.
Su Yu immediately looked toward the old man selling charcoal beside him. The old man hurriedly said, "Oh, Master Tang, my home is in a courtyard at the very end of West Street. There’s a large tree in the yard, so it’s easy to find."
Tang Kun nodded. "All right, little brother Su Yu. I’ll have someone pick you up early tomorrow morning."
Su Yu smiled. "Then I’ll have to trouble Master Tang. In the future, you can just call me Xiao Yu. I’m really not used to being called little brother."
"Hahahaha! Then, Xiao Yu, you can call me Uncle." Tang Kun laughed heartily.
"Uncle," Su Yu called.
Tang Kun beamed. "Xiao Yu, then I’ll head back first. Come to Tang Mansion for breakfast tomorrow morning."
Su Yu smiled and nodded. Then he saw Tang Kun off. After Tang Kun left, most of the onlookers who had been watching also dispersed. Su Yu looked at the old man selling charcoal and said, "Old man, don’t sell charcoal today. Take me to your home first so I can have a look."
"All right, all right, all right." The old man hurriedly packed up his stall, then headed toward West Street with his belongings and Su Yu.
West Street
The old man’s home was at the very end of West Street. Going a little farther in would lead directly to the west City Gate. Though the location was remote, being so close to the City Gate was not bad.
The old man led Su Yu into the courtyard and said with a smile, "Young master, this place is humble. If you can’t get used to living here, you should stay at Tang Mansion instead."
Su Yu smiled and shook his head. "No need. I’ll stay here. Old man, take this. Fifty taels are for buying your charcoal, and the other fifty are for lodging and meals."
As he spoke, Su Yu directly tossed the money pouch containing a hundred taels to the old man. The old man caught it and immediately tried to hand it back to Su Yu. "I can’t accept this, I can’t accept this. It was only one piece of charcoal. How could it be worth fifty taels? This old man Meng may not have studied much, but I still know what I should and shouldn’t take."
As he spoke, Old Man Meng wore a solemn expression.
Su Yu smiled. "Old Man Meng, how about this? Let all one hundred taels count as my lodging and meal expenses."
Old Man Meng shook his head. "Young master, I know you come from a wealthy family and definitely won’t stay here for long. A hundred taels is truly too much."
A hundred taels was an enormous sum for an ordinary commoner like him. He did not dare accept it so easily.
Su Yu forcibly stuffed the money pouch into Old Man Meng’s arms. "Old Man Meng, don’t refuse anymore. For every day I stay here, just use this money to buy some good food. At worst, when I leave, you can return whatever is left to me. Is that acceptable?"
Old Man Meng thought for a moment before saying, "All right, then."
Su Yu smiled. "Then, Old Man Meng, hurry and buy some meat and vegetables. It looks like it’ll soon be time for lunch."
Old Man Meng nodded and showed Su Yu around his home. Then he had Su Yu sit in the courtyard while he hid the money pouch, took out one tael of silver, and left the small courtyard. One tael was more than enough to buy some vegetables; it could even cover four or five meals.
After Old Man Meng left, Su Yu was bored, so he took out the Infinity Wine Gourd and drank two large mouthfuls. "Ah, refreshing. I haven’t had a drink in a long time. This Monkey Wine is still so delicious… Right, I can sell some Monkey Wine."
Although a hundred taels was a lot for an ordinary family, it was far too little for Su Yu. Old Man Meng’s actions earlier had already made Su Yu decide to help him, so Su Yu still needed to find a way to earn some money.
